Speaker Mods

Featured Replies

Hi SNA members, I’ve quite the obscure taste, never happy with an off the shelf item (other than my PMC 25/22) so a modifying I will go..!!

share some diy mods / upgrades you have done.

this is a pair of 2.0 6.2 elacs I’ve recently done..!! They started life in black ash vinyl. Completely rebuilt the crossovers using Mundorf, did a heap of deadening, all positive improvements. Sound heaps better to my ears now.

Nice job there, Rob :)

I suck at wood work.

Some crossovers I rebuilt a while ago for someone, I used separate boards for the high and low sections, that's the original XO on the right minus some of It's caps.

No redesigning just better parts.

Thanks Ian! I also did a pair of RP 160’s picture below.

I’ve tried going down the redesign path with poor results..!!! Just don’t have the equipment required for testing.  Now days I just replace valve for value. They take a good week of listening to open up but when they do, wow! It really makes me wonder why some companies don’t at very least use a quality cap for HF, you would expect their buying power be massive so it really wouldn’t be that much of an additional cost, and given the level of detail you get with something decent across the HF it’s kinda a no brainer.

I prefer to use Mundorf for a couple of reasons…

1, I have access to a supplier locally in Melbourne, and he is so knowledgeable, James actually takes the time to assist you in purchasing the right product  ( this is by far the best reason) and talks you through what range would offer the best returns, not just try sell you the best.

James Chen from Soundlabs Group, absolute legend.
2, Mundorf sounds bloody good!

In my hifi adventures thread, I’ve detailed rebuilds to about three or four sets of speakers.
