Recommend a designer for HT room construction in shed? 9.2.6.

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just wanting to know if anyone has suggestions for a designer to design a home theatre room to be built in a shed?

The shed is about 9m x 15m. I'm thinking the room size to be 3.2h x 5.1w x 6.8l. I'm also thinking of having another room built that the HT door would open into that would be a pool table/dart board etc room along with it.

For the actual HT room I was hoping to spend 10-15k at most hopefully for the build and acoustic treatment.

The HT system will be a 9.2.6 system, 150" screen is planned and a JVC NX7. Or a NX9 if I can find one used for a good price.

Main speakers will be 9x Adelaide Speakers "Ascension" Summoner 1293SQTL 12" speakers. 2 subs will be Harbottle Audio C24 24" subwoofers. Atmos speakers will be Adelaide Speakers Monitor M823SQ with modified dimensions to be able to sit closer to the ceiling (just need to either make or find something to mount them to the ceiling, unsure atm on options)

Amps will be two Harbottle Audio Class D amps 8x 500w 4ohm rms. Processor will be the Anthem AVM70 at this stage.

For the room I'm looking at more practical soundstage, acoustics etc vs aesthetics as some designers seem to go for the best looks vs practicality from what I've seen. (And cost)

What I was thinking to do so far is single layer 16mm Fyrchek outside wall, staggered or double stud (metal/wood unsure?) framing, R2.7 Earthwool Sound Shield Insulation, 18mm structural plywood or OSB 12 or 15mm sealed with Green Glue Acoustic sealant to seal all edges of the plywood and floor and ceiling gaps etc, then 16mm Fyrchek on top of that. (Unsure if I'm meant to seal that also? Or just do the normal plastering?) For the ceiling I've heard two layers of insulation is good?

Floor I'm thinking some sort of rubber or foam to separate from the concrete floor then two layers of yellow tongue on top. Then underlay/carpet (maybe AngelStep underlay?)

Regarding air conditioning, the Daikin US7 Split system that has a setting that brings in fresh air from outside seems like a good option.

Also been told that rubber in-between the concrete floor and frame would be good to isolate it a bit better.

Not sure on what to do with the door, if building the pool table room with the HT room opening into that, then I don't need a perfectly sealing door, just a good one I suppose.

Wiring for speakers and HDMI cables I was thinking to have 1 or 2 conduit straight through the wall coming from the pool table room and then just running cables/wiring from that along the floor/ceiling to get the cables where they need to be? (I plan to have the rack outside the HT room in the pool table room)

So I have an idea of what I COULD do, but I'm really wanting a professional opinion/consult on what I should actually be doing for the most cost effective sound isolation (which doesn't need to be perfect, just GOOD, certainly much better than a standard room), but also good acoustics and preferably without needing much expensive treatment!

So any recommendations of who is a good choice, for cost effective not luxury cinema rooms that have good isolation and excellent acoustics? Again, budget for the build/treatment of the HT room is 10-15k I'm hoping. Wanting to not waste money where I shouldn't be, and most importantly do it right the first time!

Cheers!

I'm not sure you will get what you want for that budget unless its DIY, which kinda rules out the designer.

From my experience with room/HT designers - they will certainly listen to your requirements but are also not afraid to tell you that your material decisions or potential products you wish to use, may not be able to get you what you want.

They usually prefer to start with a blank canvas.
