BuzzzFuzzz Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) Howdy Folks. After my interstate move 2 years ago I couldn't find my Rotel RP-5300. I found it last night while searching for some CD's. It was boxed up, on the floor, under a pile of other cartons. Years ago, I covered the dust cover with pictures and overlaid a film of clear contact paper. I also used some self adhesive foam around the edge of the plinth, to seal the dust cover when it was down. I wish to remove these now, if possible. I've used eucalyptus oil to remove the gum from price labels on CD covers previously, but it usually left behind some cloudiness on the plastic... not sure if that was due to the oil, or the rubbing. Any suggestions to help would be much appreciated. Regards. Ant. Edited August 29, 2021 by BuzzzFuzzz
BuzzzFuzzz Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 (edited) Some Google search suggestions... Hot water with a little detergent. Rubbing alcohol or Vodka. Vinegar. Peanut butter. Olive, or canola oil. Hair drier. Edited August 29, 2021 by BuzzzFuzzz
BuzzzFuzzz Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 Starting with the simple approach... soaking the dust cover in hot, soapy water, then wiping with a micro fibre cloth. It's working well, with little effort.
RankStranger Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 See if you can get a hold of a product called “Desolv-it”. When I was making/selling jewellery it was the only thing that worked to get the gum from the little tags off. There are other orange oil-based cleaners around that work quite well but I always found that one to be a bit more effective. As always, test on an out-of-site area first but I never had a problem with it marking plastic Good luck 1 1
audiofeline Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 I used to use eucalyptus oil and had to be careful because too much contact would make it go cloudy. Then someone on StereoNet suggested the De-Solv-It citrus cleaner and I haven't used anything else. Always removes adhesive from tape/stickers safely, I haven't had it damage plastic (but whenever using something like this, don't use more than you need to be safe). It's in the cleaning products aisle in Bunnings, comes in different size packs. https://www.bunnings.com.au/de-solv-it-125ml-sticky-spot-and-stain-remover_p4460063 1 1
BuzzzFuzzz Posted September 3, 2021 Author Posted September 3, 2021 (edited) @audiofeline Thanks mate. I had a look on line after @RankStranger suggested it. There are a few products in the range, and I wasn't sure which one. I've been meaning to request a link. Cheers. Edited September 3, 2021 by BuzzzFuzzz 1
