Fridge - which make

Featured Replies

Need to replace a fridge, two-door type, typically for family of 5 to 6.

My regular electronic shop surprised me by proposing Midea, Said it is an established China made, quality is good. 2-year warranty.

Retails at 20-25% lower than the usual brands at the stores.

Also said LG, Samsung, Bosch, Electrolux are all made in China and not so lasting.

Please let me know your thoughts , they will help.

Thanks...

any budget? Cos Fridge like AV products also have range from few hundreds to few ks.  ;D

Me CFO also looking at fridges but she likes multi-doors. So that's brands like Mitsubishi, Panasonic and Hitachi etc.

Do consider the Made-In-Japan fridge, really good. A bit more expensive.

I really like my 6-door Hitachi.

Budget between $900 to $1300 . Looking for reliable and not over-priced ones. When I see the amount of adverts and their prominence , I can't help but wonder how much more consumers are paying for the adverts and not the product.

Ah yes, I have good experience with many made in Japan products. Do you recall what did you have to pay for the 6 door Hitachi ?

Mitsubishi Jolio

Make in Japan

I just bought an LG fridge. I also have 5 members in my family. Come with 2 years warranty and 10 years warranty for the compressor. I was told the materials used for LG fridges are better (e.g. anti-mold rubber gaskets etc.). Don't quote me, the salesperson from Harvey Norman told me. Anyway, it fits my budget ($1300) and requirements so bought it. I love Mit, Pana and Hitachi too but they cost way more.

Depending on volume capacity, can range from 3k to 4.5k

Actually, my current LG, not made in Japan, has lasted 10 years so far. Wifey wanted to change purely because she always wanted a multi-door. So changing.

But like AV products, the higher price you pay also comes with more"function" like separate compartments for defrosting, Vegetables etc.

For current products, for me, i don't really feel that "Made-in-Japan" always better mindset.

It really depends more on the QA/QC of the company and also sometimes "heng suay" if got a lemon, from Japan/German, still a lemon.

Like Apple, made in tiongkok, but quality still good yah? Can charge more than 400$ for their new keyboard for ipad pro.  ;D People still will buy.

Mitsubishi Folio.

Zero problem and very reliable.  My second one.  Left the first one with the family who bought my old apartment.

I cannot really remember, it was 10 years ago.

My guess is about $4k to $5k.

Bought at Gain City AMK.

I have a Samsung 2 door for more than 7 years. Capacity 566 liters. Think I paid around $1.2k.

Samsung and LG (Korean brands) quite long lasting imo. My home was using a cheap LG 2-door type and was working for me for the last 13 yrs until last year when the magnetic seal of the door started to lose its magnetic element. Instead of repair, I’ve decided to retire the LG for more than a decade of hard work. Now using an Electrolux model.

It looks like the few make mentioned thus far are reliable, and most lasted 7-8 years and more. The LG that I am now looking to replace been good, 2-3 months short of 11 years, few to no repair all that time.

It pique my interest and curiosity when this electronic shop owner suggested Midea, said while the public do not see much adverts, the make is good and reliable, and it is retails for a lot lower than the usual make.

We are looking at least $350-$500 lower for similar capacity. Does not look as good but it does not look inferior or unpleasant.

Online search revealed Bosch to be well reviewed and popular in Europe. Not as pricey as the few make that are well advertised.
