LG OLED C7 Vertical Banding Issue

Featured Replies

Dear owners of LG C7, E7, G7 or W7 OLED TVs,

I would like to request your assistance - to post pics of your TV showing 5% gray slides here, using this Youtube clip:

The reason is because I think the vertical banding on my 65C7 is quite bad (sometimes visible during normal watching), but LG Service came down to see and said that it is normal. I have seen some pics of this model with 5% gray slides (from friends and google images), and mine seems worst than most of them. So I'm trying to do a comparison with other samples, to see if there is ground for me escalate this matter with LG.

If you don't want to post here, you can also PM me. Then can whatsapp me your pic.

Thanks everyone! :)

Here is a scene where you can see the banding clearly. Notice how the right side is darker and the dark stripe on the right just off-centre. Mirroring the vertical bands on the 5% grayscale pic above.

Im not an oled owner yet. But this doesn't look normal lei.

If photo can show, the real thing even worse right...

I wouldn't say the real thing is worst. It is visible during dim panning scenes. Not visible 95% of the time, but given the price, I don't feel it is acceptable.

Here is pic from my friend's 65C7. A lot smoother.

This is not covered by warranty?

According to the LG technician, this is usual for IPS panels, and is not a defect.  Not solveable, but not a defect covered by warranty.  Are OLEDs IPS panels?

Here's my 55" C7. The funny thing was that I had have my TV set to a dark mode and I couldn't even see the 5% with the lights off :).

Here is 5% in the dark. Note this is a really grainy photo with lots of noise because it's so dark. I think that makes it look worse than it really is.

Here is 5% with the lights on. Yes my desk is a mess :).

Here is 20% with the lights on

Honestly, this doesn't bother me on my set at all. Especially when my TV is on the Expert (Dark Room) mode and I can't see it ;).

I am going to try out the youtube patterns tomorrow. Just assembled the TV today

Hi DH, how is the 5% slide looking on your C7?

My bad. Been playing with the AppleTV on the ZD9 recently.

Will give it a go later

Some banding. But not noticeable in normal viewing  The white bars are light streaming from my windows.

Thanks DH. Your pictures of the screen are very dark. Can you put on a brighter mode (eg. expert bright), or take picture with room lights on?

Actually I can see the banding in the photos I took. I think it is just Tapatalk compressing the photos when uploading

You can see it more clearly when I am taking the photo at an angle which is the first photo I uploaded

Just ran my 55C7 thru didn't take any pics but i find its acceptable and not as serious as some bros here

Here is the one from my c7

Yours have a similar vertical banding as mine, down the right off-centre. Can you see this band when watching darker scenes? Mine can sometimes see clearly, eg. Blade Runner night flying scene.

Yes sometimes can be seen , on power ranger disc, I thought the banding issue is a common problem with OLED, so didn’t really worry about it. Most of the time it’s ok for me, not really that noticeable to the naked eye

Just tested this. Mine looks quite ok in BRIGHT and DARK SETTING.

VERY VERY slight band on one spot but not that visible unless very very picky.

Hi sevenz, glad to hear your LG is okay. Can you post a pic of the 5% grayscale on your TV?  I want to compare with mine, and hopefully convince LG that my case is severe and not normal.

With this banding issue, think I better stick to LCD LED for my next upgrade[emoji849]377c14f49eea3e2df4240c594e401215.jpg

I tried doing that actually b4 posting. But totally can't see anything on photo lol. So didn't post it up.

Bro Francis, the oled is a day and night difference. Don't wait too long to enjoy the excellent PQ.

I regretted buying so late. But better later than never!  Hohoho
