Firstly, there is a limitation to putting a tweeter in the middle of a midbass unit.  One issue is size and the depth.  That is one reason most high quality component speakers are separates

Secondly, the other reason is the position where you can mount the speakers.  To get decent midbass and midrange, ICE usually require a 6.5 inch driver.  It is impractical to mount this on the dash or on the A pillars of the car due to the size.  So these go into the bottom of doors and to the kickpanels, but these bottom locations suck for tweeters and high frequency drivers.  So to compromise, tweeters are usually mounted high up while mid bass drivers are mounted low.  But that creates another issue which the tweeter being too far away from the midbass and this creates a phase incoherence.

So another way to solve the problem is to use tweeters that go as low as possible (down to 1 khz), but this makes the tweeters very big and difficult to mount (think morel supremo or the bigger dynaudios)

Then you also have the subwoofer- seal box vs ported, 12 inch vs 15 inch vs 18 inch, single voice coil vs dual voice coil.  What sort of amp do you choose? Class D or Class AB?  Stereo, bridged or a dedicated monoblock?

Current nitpicking that i hope to solve, maybe you guys can give me a better recommendation that i can start my audition trail.

I like to listen to more electronic dance music - Tech House, Tribal house, Psytrance and techno.

Sample of the music i listen to - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dkaAb_Z78E

I'm looking for bass depth and punch, with enough dynamics not to boom the whole cabin.

I was looking at the 3 way - http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Speakers/A-Series/TS-A4675R

What if I want to have both side to be coaxial for the Mid highs to mid lows frequency

And push the rest to this sub?

Would that work?

I don't see the need for having a component but a more refine mids and high.

The sub in question, is here-

Ah okay now this is slowly making sense already.

i've been doing some reading up, i think my understanding for an optimal system -

Component system - 1 tweeters, 1 woofer, passive XOver or just a mid sized woofer.

Coaxial System - 2,3,4 way systems - It can work but it needs an amp (think Tannoy Dual Concentric design)

Passive/Active Woofer - Passive into an amp, Active is enclosed all in one.

So now i understand the following -

Ampless setup

HU -> Speakers ->(lineout) Active sub

Semi Integrated Setup

HU -> Multichannel Amp -> Active Sub

Multichannel amp (4 channels) -> Front and rear

Totally separate Setup

HU -> Speaker amp -> Sub Amp

Speaker amp 1/(2channel) -> Front speakers

Speaker amp 2/(2channel) -> back speakers

Sub amp (Mono) -> Sub

Most HU now has direct Ipod digital lineout for the HU DAC to change the signal.

I have been a paid user for this

http://www.innoworkspc.com/en/technology/view_10

After I install ipc power booster and engine booster. The sound system in my bro in law car has transformed. Area that I notice change the most is sound is now more transparent with great wide sound field. Bass is much more controlled. Previously it sound boom. And the setup is just ordinary stock hu with 6 channel power amp.

I had a look but I just can't believe the science of it. Probably like religion, you gotta have faith...

Has anyone DIY using minidsp locally? Ability of cabin room correction and digital crossover sounds interesting if can be integrated into OEM system.

From what I've read, it doesn't seem very hard to setup in terms of the configuration - just plug and play with the usb mic and it'll try to eliminated unwanted reverbs and delay.
