Bass management isn't about EQ-ing the subwoofer.

It's about redirecting the bass from the mains/surround/center to the subwoofer.

If you have Thiels, the PX05 passive crossover works brilliantly (just set all the speakers to large), but for most other speakers, the BM on the AVR works better.

Having said that, I think the Oppo has some barebones BM built in as well. Never used it before so can't tell how well it works.

Wrote a bit confused. I use the Oppo's BM. It works fine (its not that hard to implement when you're in digital) and is about the same as most AVRs. Just remember that for movies the Oppo does -15db on the analog LFE output when the speakers are set to small, so you have to compensate at the AVR. That may be why some people think that it's BM is not effective when it's just too soft.

What's barebones about the Oppo is the time alignment, where you can't set the distance for individual speakers - on the Oppo certain speakers can only be equidistant. My Pioneer DVD player's time alignment was more flexible. So generally, the Oppo on analog is a little less flexible to the AVR, but the sound quality difference makes it more than worth it.

ps I second the RXV2700 recommendation :)

I sold mine a couple of years ago to a friend, and I recently listened to his setup driving a set of KEF iQ9s and have to say, they still sounded pretty impressive.

You know how to connect the analogue outputs, so that works, but many think its just buying 7 i/c and sticking them in.

I still say you can do better than the Yamahas, not because they are not good, just that for the 95, you can make it sing better with better equipment.

See what Nuforce says to a query on what the upgrade entails....

Nuts to Nuforce, and bleah to the over expensive upgrade!

A reply from someone who asked about the Nuforce tweaks.

To everyone that is considering purchasing an Oppo 95 NXE upgrade from Nuforce, please take note of the response I received from Nuforce:

First my request:

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&showtopic=92250&view=findpost&p=1657132

"So considering that is $1500 more than the price of the standard unit, what specifically do I get for $1500 of my hard-earned money?"

Nuforce Response:

"We said enough on the website and I think you just have to wait for reviews. Regardless of what we said, ultimately you are going to pay for what you can HEAR. If we said it is made of platinum and you can't tell the difference, it is worthless to you. So when we completed the design and have chance to evaluate the result, you will hear more about it. We generally never disclose clearly details of the design, this has been our approach to guard our trade secrets.

Thanks

Jason"

The early owner program is out in USA...

Anyone signed on?

:)

I missed the email. They are already all out of the eap on this as its only a limited number. The full batch is coming in March. At least they kept the price reasonable. Hope SLT confirms pricing and availability soon. With the region free kit coming in February it might be just nice.

Some recent measurement data on the new Oppo BDP95, done by a leading internet magazine (who we can't name), who are in the process of finishing their review soon. The results are nothing short of fantastic, and we understand that the Oppo BDP-95 has already become their reference player! We've gotten clearance from Oppo to post these, so here they are:
