Hhmmm, I've looked at it both in JB's & TWL in the last couple of weeks (as it's priced under $20) and in both cases the case is clearly marked DD 5.1 only under the soundtrack detail... Hence I've steered clear (especially with my Departed experience a week or so ago)...

 

 

 

Unfortunately one of many local releases that has incorrect audio specs on the covers. Just to be on the safe side though it would pay to get someone at JB to stick the disc in a blu ray player to double check the audio. It could be like the Departed - earlier blu ray versions in this region came with PCM 5.1 soundtracks but recent versions don't.

Not sure if it's Region Free with the US release; but Amazon UK have it down for 02 November - so not too far away...

 

The US release of Braveheart is Region A only, despite being from Paramount. I thought you were region free?

I am mate - but no point buying a locked one unnecessarily - plus I have the PS3 as my second player so if its locked it means I can only play on 1 device (the Oppo), and it limits resale if I don't like it and want to put it on TradeMe. Idea is I'll use the Region Free ability for special titles that are only available in Region A or which there is some significant difference in the release vs. Region B or Multi-Region editions...

Those AVS boffins have discovered that Braveheart has a problem with jaggies during the first 22 mins, but thereafter pretty much reference PQ. See post #131 here:

I have read quite a few reviews of BSG and from what I have read I don't think the PQ is reference quality like some of the stunning transfers out there. In my opinion this is exactly what the Blu-Ray release should be, exactly the same as the director's intention and no DNR or EE.

 

So I don't think the transfer is up to Fifth Element or Pirates standards but it matches exactly what the director intended which is great (going by the reviews that I have read).

 

I think I will end up buying it since I don't think my video store will get it, but I will wait until the price drops. Would be nice to hear from someone who has seen it as well though.

 

On another note, watched Quantum of Solace last night and that was an awesome transfer. Didn't enjoy the story as much as Casino Royale, but I am really liking Daniel Craig as Bond. Also none of that cheesy small talk makes the movies infinately better.

Well I found one with the LPCM Track - at JB Manukau, although it was priced at $24.95 versus the ones at TWL ($19.95 but only DD) and the one I saw at JB Manukau ($21.95 or so IIRC with DD)...

Yep - that certainly looks the way - of note the cover for this copy is different on the back and I think the Subtitles may be different (i.e. US style with French & Spanish only)... (suggesting original copies may have come from/via US and new stocks are coming ex-Europe?)

Anyone know where to source Hong Kong Blu-ray relases at reasonable prices other than YesAsia? The HK version of Assembly rates slightly better than the UK version for PQ, but at YesAsia its US$32 (with potential free shipping) vs. Amazon UK's £6.98 (+ shipping)!

Well FWIW I ended up picking up the above 4 titles myself - thanks for the Heads-Up Rhygar... Also picked up the following from Amazon UK (plus postage):

 

• Days Of Glory [blu-ray]: £6.07
• Hotel Babylon : Complete BBC Series 1 [blu-ray]: £10.98
• Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky [blu-ray]: £8.98
• I, Robot [blu-ray]: £9.98
• Saints And Soldiers [blu-ray]: £6.94
• Sin City - 2-Disc Edition [blu-ray]: £10.98
• Max Manus - Man Of War [blu-ray]: £10.87

Should be well under NZ$200 all up - and especially as Max Manus is the most expensive (will work out about NZ$38 or so - so the other 6 titles will be left costing under $160) - so with the prices here in NZ for Hotel Babylon ($59-$80); I, Robot ($30-$45); and Sin City ($35-$49) being relatively high I should end up effectively getting the other three titles 'for free' so to speak (although TTSUTS is the one title that may not do Blu-ray justice).

 

P.S. Although I notice the 'Monkey' is starting to get more competitive on a few titles now...

It was $62 won as a lucky bargain. The seller only listed for 1 day. Just lucky I guess. Postage was only $4. So $66 delivered locally

Is anyone ordering Gladiator from Amazon UK? I have it on pre-order and Amazon UK shows the released date of 07/09/2009 in a couple of days. I have two other titles that have been sitting in the order for weeks and they sent those two titles today even though Gladiator is supposedly only two days away from being release??? I hope it is not because Gladiator release date may be delayed again????
