Wah ! Today news paper immediate put sales at S$499 !!!

The new Pioneer 655 DVD Player costs $599 without any bargaining at the big shops. I've just dicovered that you can easily bargain at Best, SAFE or Harvey Norman. Just offer $50 to $100 less, and they will often agree. Of course, you need to do your homework first, as you can buy substantially cheaper elsewhere at the smaller retailers.

The older Pioneer 633 cannot play SACD or DVD Audio, so it definitely not worth buying at $499, only $100 difference.

How much is KEC selling ??? Really interested leh.

Why Pioneer do not have HDCD playback? Is it due to the chipset it use ???

599 too, when it first arrives weeks ago. maybe now price is lower since other shops may have stock already. i almost bought it but then i wanted to see if anyone here bought it too and hear their comments abt it before committing. but for weeks, no one say anything leh...

yeah, both 633a and 655a comes with that. 733a is 108mhz/12 bit though.

I think now the standard is 10 bit 54 mhz , seen quite a number of new dvd player with this spec. , is it really better than the 10 bit 27 mhz ???

The top range from Denon - model 9000 is 14 bit 108 mhz if I did not remeber wrongly .....

Guess Pioneer 655 is targeted at the budget market. There is a lack of mid priced players having the SACD/DVD-A playback and progressive scan. People who want a cheap all-in-one player will get it. I will be getting one to replace my old dvdp in living room, while waiting for a better one to come before getting for my own bedroom. 8P

Anyone know is Pioneer using the Genesis chipset for progressive scan function ? Any Pioneer owner with Pogressive Scan feature ever open the player to look-see inside ???

The above model was quoted for $515 at KEC. It's a good all-in-one player. Build quality is not great though.

BTW, heard recent news that there are bugs in the Pioneer DVD recorder chips. Just be careful about the recorders.

TCW,

Sorry to ask... have you ever open your Pioneer DVD player to look-see inside ?

Haha, Norman, I'm not so adventurous, but suffice to say that my 737 is a very good and reliable Player, solid built, can play everything, and I would be keeping this for quite a while. Based on my experience and others who own Pioneer, that's why I always recommend Pioneer to others. Their experience with the Laser Disc era truly shows in their reliability. :)

I'm looking forward for the 655a in Dec 02 , only worry that my Toshiba TV may have problem with the Pioneer player after experiences with the DCDi chipset player with Toshiba TV.

Why would you have problem with Pioneer 655 on your Toshiba? The 655 does not do PAL progressive at all and the Nintaus and Q50 has had no problems whatsoever playing back NTSC progressive on the Toshiba.

Was think to letting go my Nintaus ... you think will there be any buyer ?

I should think that there are some people who would be interested. Why don't you let go your Toshiba TV and get a new one instead? Maybe a projector even. :)

I was thinking also letting go my 34 " Toshiba TV less than a year old and get an Plasma (was quite interested in the Fujitsu plasma) ... ha ... ha ... but you think the Toshiba TV got people want to buy 2nd hand too ?

There's still a lot of people who like the picture quality of Toshiba TVs. Depends a lot on the price you are asking for, I suppose and not everyone is interested in PAL progressive anyway. I am actually thinking about selling off my 43A9UE too. ;D
