Wireless security cameras

Featured Replies

Is there anything out there worth checking out? I need 3 or 4 cameras, but cant run any cabling to them where I will need them, so would need the battery options, with wi-fi recording to a DVR I guess?

I run Arlo Pro 2 cameras which I picked up at a good price couple of years ago. As long as your expectations are appropriate for a wireless solution they work well. Depending on where they are located, high traffic areas, such as driveway I'm charging the battery every 2 1/2 months.

The accessories are expensive - such as solar panel to keep a camera charged is $120 for small panel. However, for a hard to reach camera, it might be worth it.

Be mindful that wireless cameras have a reputation for being hackable, especially as they are usually “plug and play”, where owners tend not to fiddle with settings and leave defaults in place.

May I ask what’s preventing running cabling?

I have Arlo pro 2. Ended up plugging them in permanently because they need charging once a week. They record to the cloud (think maybe $15ish a month, but was free for a year with my deal) whenever someone drives past the house. Picture quality not great in terms of identifying someone night or day.

eufy user here.   I have 4 set up with base station and it has work Faultlessly  the past 6 months.   Battery life is amazing.

Unless it's impossible or prohibitively expensive to run cable , use IP camera's and an NVR.  Wireless systems will require power or you will be forever charging batteries. And if you can get power to them, you can get Cat 6 to them :)
