After so much of my system having changed since I first joined SNA over 2 years ago, I decided it was time to create a dedicated thread to my system.

So here's what it's made up of today.

AV

Samsung 55" Series 7 LED TV

Beyonwiz DP-P2

OPPO BDP83SE Blu Ray player (also used for SACD and Music streaming)

Denon AVR-2307

Music

Cyrus CD8SE CD player

Clearaudio Performance SE turntable (my latest addition courtesy of Tricka)

Leema Accoustic Pulse Integrated Amplifier

Speakers (shared between music and movies)

Orpheus Aurora 3 Signature Edition Front Speakers

Orpheus Centaurus 1 Centre Speaker

Whatmough Impulse 2 Sub

And here are the obligatory pictures

I'm currently very happy with the setup and the way it all looks and sounds. Wonder how long the upgraditis can be kept at bay this time;)

Cheers

Jeff

Very Nice Setup there:)

Yes. Very nice.

How do those expensive isolation feet go on the TT?

I was thinking of saving up for some!

Make sure you get the cryogenically treated ones.

Good little setup there - have you thought about using some room treatments?

Very nice setup Jeff and the Clearaudio Performance looks great. I've got a soft spot for Jarrah too.....it all matches up well.

Cheers,

Keith

Nice setup Jeff.

You picked up a good buy with the Clearaudio Performance. I thought that Tricka would hold onto that.

If you really like them Logicprobe, I'll sell you a set.

Seriously, it was adhoc measure out of desparation. My floating floor is do damn bouncy, it had the cartridge jumping all over the place any time I stepped near it. Funnily enough it wasn't a big issue with the Rega P2. Moving the rug closer to the unit and putting the packing foam underneath has at least improved it slightly. Ultimately I guess I'll need to mount it on the wall, but that means I'll need to get an extension to connect it to the amps phone stage.

Yes, that's a great little setup. It's wonderful to see someone with the space to place a system in a room that's not cluttered up with other crap. The room seems to say "sit back, relax and enjoy the system" rather than sorting through shelves of books, records, photos and random wife junk to find a simple pleasure.

...and I share Keith's admiration of Jarrah.

It's certainly crossed my mind as I'm painfully aware of all the hard reflective surfaces in my room only broken up by the big recliners and lounge suite (not in any of the pictures), but to this stage I've prioritised the money spent on getting the equipment I want.

As it's not a dedicated listening room (I've actually hijacked the family room), there's also a slight domestic issue - room treatments tend to look ugly. My wife's okay with the equipment I buy as I can hide most of it out of sight within the cabinet but putting up ugly treatments would not go down well at all.

Very nice system! What cartridge is that on the Clearaudio? (That's a mighty fine looking turntable!)

  • Author

Thanks SirAndy. The Turntable comes as a package with CA Satisfy Carbon tonearm and Maestro MM cartridge.

Mighty fine looking system there jt , and looks like it delivers the goods , which is all you can ask.

Congrats.

Nice setup, looks a treat. Wish I had a room like that :/

It's been nearly 5 years since I've updated this thread. In that time I've almost completely changed and upgraded the Hi Fi side of my system. It now consists of

Whatmough P33 signature speakers

Whatmough Impulse2 subwoofer

Devialet 400 integrated amplifier

Naim Uniti Serv ripper/server/streamer

Clearaudio Performance SE turntable

Oppo BDP103D

Isotek Evo3 Sigmas

I'll provide some my thoughts on these components in later posts.

I've just picked up the Isotek evo3 syncro power cable to feed the sigmas. I think the heart of my system is now complete.

Time for an update.

Since the last post I've purchased a couple of sets of Stillpoint Mini SS to put under the Devialets.

The rest of the changes have just been fine tuning.

First off speaker positioning.  I saw a thread on Stereonet that referred to the Cardas.com website for suggestions.  It had a simple calculator where you put in the width of your room and it told you the distance from the front and side walls to position your speakers at.  I fine tuned this after buying Get Better Sound along with experimenting with the listening position.

I also moved one of the recliners into the first reflection point along the left wall. I have the matching 3 seater lounge on the other side.

The other main change has been working to integrate the subwoofer properly.

One of benefits of using the Devialets is their flexibility in configuration.

Firstly I've turned the subwoofer frequency filter up to its maximum (the impact2 has no bypass setting) and set a 4th order high pass filter at 70Hz for the Sub.

Secondly, the subwoofer sits quite distance behind the front speakers, thus bass coming from it is not time aligned properly with front speakers.  Again, after reading a thread on stereonet, I was able to configure the Devialets with an appropriate time delay setting on the front speakers to get the time alignment correct.  Thanks to @andyr for helping me with this.

Last, but definitely not least, I purchased a real time analyser for my iPad and the appropriate test discs from Stereophile and properly integrated the subwoofer following instructions Gregg Borrowman had in Australian Hi Fi.  See the measurement in the next posts.

So am I there yet?

I think I've been around this hobby long enough to know your journey never ends but I have arrived at a waypoint that I'm very happy with, especially on the digital side which is 99% based around CDs. This is what I primarily listen to.

My vinyl set up, I'm not so sure.  It's not bad.  I've spent significant effort making sure it's set up properly and I'm still going through cleaning my record collection through the Okki Nokki RCM I have.  However when I've listened to other members systems, it only taken a couple of minutes to hear that vinyl produces the superior sound.  In my system it's doesn't sound so clear cut, well not to my ears. Given the convenience of digital, that's what I seem to use most of the time.

Does that mean I've got a brilliant digital set up?  Maybe, but I doubt it. I don't know whether a different cartridge would help or if it's down to the phone stage in the Devialet converting the analogue signal to digital.  I don't know if an external phone stage would improve things or not.  Anyway I guess this is where my main focus will be for the immediate future.

A pleasure, Jeff.  I'm glad that someone else is able to benefit from what I've done.  :)

Is RTA only available for iPads or does it run under Windows on a PC?

Re. vinyl vs. digital ... where, exackly, is "Death Valley"?  (Adelaide? :P )

Hey @andyr, sorry mate the article only had suggestions for IOS and android RTA apps. Nothing for windows.

Death Valley is my alias for the Sydney suburb I live in.  I got the idea from our ex mod, @Jake. He used to list his location as Happy Rock.  I could never work out where Happy Rock was and then I found out he lived in Gladstone. Apply the same logic and tell me what suburb I live in.

Oooo, that's a problem, Jeff.  None of the tourist spots in Syderney that I've visited, I would call 'Death Valley' ... so maybe it's that western suburb where the middle-eastern gangs seem to shoot each other?  :P  Cabramatta?

Andy

PS: don't see the logic re. "Happy Rock" and Gladstone.  :(

Green Valley!...............just down the road from Cabra.

edit - Jake is now @ Old Shack

Happy - Glad - similar meaning

Rock - Stone - similar meaning

See where I'm going with this?

Death - As humans don't live forever, ie. we die, we're considered what? What's the name of the place dead bodies may be taken to be examined?

Valley - Up hill and down what?
