Guest Muon Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Nice work Millsy, and Mario, seen those here before I think. both very well made Mine are a bit rough in comparison, and budget only allowed the use of Jay Cay plugs. Looking forward to what you think of these new ones
Upfront Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Years ago I put copper foil through a laminatar . Just use teflon tape ,stack & tape ,takes time .Cheers Was thinking making cotton "socks" with the ribbon inside then wrapping in Teflon. Harder to Tear the foil then... I hope. Thinking 70mm wide foil.
Sentient Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Looking forward to what you think of these new ones I'm enjoying the music tonight alot !! I like them, it could just be psychoaccoustic driven satisfaction due to the completion of my virgin pair of diy interconnects? I'm not going to spoil the enjoyment by AB'ing tonight. I'll do that another night.
Upfront Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 They really are bloody satisfying aren't they! Well done mate. Sash cord is a quick cheap and simple source of natural cotton. Let us know how you go when you do A&B mate

Upfront Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Not sure on where I can get it yet, maybe a foil coil? Mundorf do them in 70mm foil. Not sure. Was thinking 70mm x 0.075. Works out to be about 14ga. As for the why... I'm currently using 26ga round silver so I was thinking about going to the other extreme. Foil and fullrange.
Once was an audiophile Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Noice mate !!! Kinda like the look of them braided, without any additional covering.2 pairs of cables on each interconnect, for each pair did you twist them together at the ends, before soldering onto the plugs? i dont think i did,in the plug they just run untwisted, after feeding the silver wire through cotton and braiding i just wanted them on my system.about 2 hours of work which is not bad speaker cables with 0.8mm solid core silver wire 3.5m pair took me 12 hours

I'll do that another night. Well, in my opinion, judging by you liking them "alot !!" I think they must have some improvement for you, excellent Also, thanks for doing this as it inspired me to switch back to my copper Litz IC's and with the new amp I prefer them over the silver plated teflon ones "thumbs up", not as transparent, but that's not always preferable, my DAC is very transparent and these tame it a little. Edit:Hmm...listening to detail on the CD I was playing before the switch now, and I think they are just as transparent or even more so, but have warmed the tone some...nice. More true to life in my system than the silver plated ones. Edited August 23, 2010 by datafone
Paul Spencer Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 (edited) Good to see some diy cables! Mario, those look like ICs for a yacht! Normally low level cables are either twisted pair of coax. Twisted pairs helps avoid noise pickup. Ever seen inside an audio component? You'll see lots of twisted pairs. The box itself also acts as shielding. Edited August 23, 2010 by Paul Spencer
Cyber_Murphy Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Nice job, I always build my own too.. But not fancy ones like that,, they look really interesting.. I use canare F09 RCA plugs and Neutrik XLR's, and for my cable I use Canare L4E6S "star quad".. I would post pictures too, but they don't look as flash as your ones

Sentient Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Tonight, I've been AB'ing the new diy interconnects to the previous pair I was using. There is a definite difference, not night and day, it's a subtle difference. My preference is leaning towards the diy solid core copper interconnects.
Sentient Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 It's made the top end slighty more open, and it appears to be slightly cleaner as a result. There is abit of additional air there, that isnt with the other interconnects. It's subtle, but there. Am I confident in passing the pepsi challenge (dbx), I think so.
Guest Muon Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Very pleasant little result judging from your description, mate
