Frameperfect Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Hey Willmax, mine are setup in a 4 x 5 room, a little less than a meter forward from the wall. Midrange and tweeter position on the outside, 300mm height. Frequency set to default works well, sometimes -3db is better but not always. I also went very steep in the angle, almost pointing towards me to get the stereo image centered, although this might change. Biggest improvement was swapping in a tube dac, my friends Vincent cddac s7. They really do sound harsh and shrill with lesser gear, but so very pleasing with tubes. One thing I didn't consider was just how true the word 'monitor' is. They have a character closer to my studio speakers I started with, than any hifi speakers I tried. Fidelity is far higher than other speakers I've had, but the character of other speakers can be more musical and pleasing to the ear. So for some music, I prefer other speakers, but for most music I prefer NS1000m. 1

Robertoh Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 Discovered this thread when looking for info about Yamaha NS-670 (the little brother of the NS-690). Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the efforts Willmax went to in his videos and generous sharing. Almost all of us here never get to hear such clear comparisons within a line of vintage equipment in good condition such as this. Even with the room and layout constraints, one still gets to hear, enjoy and consider comparable differences. For the record, I thought the NS-1000 domestic (biggest cabinet) sounded a bit airier or more open than the NS-1000M in these videos, given the room placemens, inputs, limitations of YouTube sound, etc. The NS-690 definitely seemed quieter and less sensitive, and does come across as a bit lesser, which is not surprising, but still very pleasant. (It's only by comparions with big brother that it suffers... written as a younger brother - hah!) I guess I'll have to go looking for some videos of NS-670 c/w 690 and 1000... or anything, really. (I am weighing up the NS-670 as a step up from my current Acoustic Research AR15, FWIW.) 1 1
