Hi guys,

I'm thinking about dropping sports & HD from my foxtel subscription over summer. I really only got foxtel for the footy but we do watch quite a bit of the entertainment channels, but mostly on the SD plasma in the living room rather than my HT room. In fact I could probably get away with completely shutting down the primary IQHD in the HT room till the footy's back.

Anybody else do this? Are there any pitfalls.

My local video store is also closing down meaning I won't be able to conveniently rent BD's any more as I usually rent first and then purchase if I like a title enough. I have no other rental stores to my knowledge between work and home. We are only on a basic $39 adsl2+ internet package (iinet and would have to check if we are getting the full 50gb currently offered at this price) so I don't want to use the Apple TV too much and run out of quota.

Oh yeah, I've never used the Foxtel on demand feature. Is this any better worse than using Apple TV for rentals?

I called to cancel altogether, as I planned to check out what packages would become available around the start of the 2014 AFL season. Got offered the essentials pack for half price ($23.50) for 6 months if I stayed connected, so I took the deal.

Will cancel for good as soon as FTA starts broadcasting the AFL in HD.

Considered Quickflix for BD rentals? ~$17/month.

Suspending Foxtel (so you hold onto the box) will cost at least $5/month, possibly $10.

For me, I called up Foxtel to disconnect, but was offered my current package (same as yours) at half price, so signed up for 3 months thinking I'll find something decent to watch. Turns out, I'm getting into the A-League, so it's already paying off.

Just about to tick over the 1 hour on hold. They aren't doing themselves any favours keeping people on hold this long.... I'd hang up and call from work tomorrow but want them to know how long I've been waiting.

And no, I'm not an EPL fan. Footy or cycling for me and cycling basically shuts, down over our summer too.

You can always give Netflix a go.

Tell Foxtel you want to disconnect and they will offer you a good 6 month deal to stay.

I've inadvertently got a 1 year membership to Amazon Prime through that old chestnut of forgetting to cancel the trial... I guess I'll plug my PS3 in and give it a trial. And yes I've set a reminder in my calendar to not renew it again.

I've now got Foxtel down to under $50 a month. I still need it to keep in my family room as a child pacifier for the grandparents who do a lot of baby sitting for us.

I also bought a 2nd ATV for my HT room, $99 @ Dick Smith yesterday. Rented The Hangover III last night, pretty avg movie but quite acceptable video, will have to watch something else back to back with a BD to see whether I'll hire blockbusters or music concerts this way. Annoyed that for some reason my Harmony 900 isn't controlling the ATV 1080p, yet my basic Harmony in the family room works my ATV2. Anybody else had that issue?

Love the EPL and A league so won't cancel, my kids also watch the kids channels and my wife watches a few series. But have never seen much point in HD as it is attached to our living room 720p LCD for everyday use rather than the HT room or the 50" plasma.
