I have just bought a second hand Panasonic DMR-BW780 (twin tuner blu ray player and Blu Ray recorder, but only a 250 gig hard drive). Before I set it up as our primary PVR, I'd like to upgrade the hard drive, as I think we'd fill up its 250 gig drive fairly quickly. There's nothing on the existing hard drive that I want to keep - it's empty. Has anyone managed to replace the hard drive in one of these or any other Panasonic PVR with a larger hard drive? If so, any help or tips, or details about which HDD brands may or may not work would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Others may chip in with better news, but DVDRs (as opposed to PVRs) are usually very propriety in how their hard drive is set up. Replacing them or getting recordings directly off them is not usually possible. Two thoughts:

1) Check in the DVDR menu and see if it has a format hard drive option. If so you might be in luck.

2) Try download some good partitioning software (30 day trials) and see if you can't clone your current drive. The software might recognise the partition structure and enable you to enlarge the main partition.

yes it does format the drive, funny thing i always thought it had a 350gb. Never filled the drive or even come close to it but it isn't just a PVR its a burner so archiving to DVD is pretty easy.

over my home network you can just copy & paste to your pc if needed.
