Pretty sure if you go back to the start you'll see where he posted that the unit has its own wheels for moving it around.

If I fired this up in the little place I am in now I think there would be a ruin left like one of the buildings in Stalingrad ! Seriously for all you palatial mansion type of guys this is now a stone cold bargain !

Yes Lonewolf can be easily moved.

if your in Melbourne Lonewolf feel free to come have a look

i am in sydney, I am trying to talk myself into it. I just dont know if i can really use it in the rooms i have. I know it wont even fit in my main HT room. Possibly in the 2nd room which is also the family room but ....i think the size might too large for a family room :)

The box is 40cuft so if it didn't fit in your room as is I would either cut it in half to have two boxes sealed but partition each sub off from the other, have one box at the front and back of the room or cut it into 4 separate boxes and seal them all up for 2 front and two rear spaced evenly!

Nearly 10cuft each box will give you room to do whatever you want with each sub but you cant beat sealed and a sh!t load of power driving them...

Ok so i am buying these subs...passing through without the family noticing.....going to be an ordeal.

Question i had was, which of these 2 amps do people recommend? I will probably need 2 as i am going to split the sub into 2 different rooms. :-

Behringer Europower EPQ2000 Amplifier

Behringer iNUKE NU4-6000 4 Channel 6000-watt Digital Amp

The iNuke is probably the better amp as its more configurable and more wattage and features. But i think its a different type of amp as in digital as opposed to the other which is ..not sure... The inuke is more expensive.

Congrats!

Not going for plate amps? Everything in that one box makes it so much easier sometimes..

Both should be fine... iNUKE seems to be class-D which really shouldn't be an issue for subs IMO.

Congrats!

I would have to cut holes to fit the plate amps and hook them up somehow right? I dont really know how to do all that :)

A jigsaw? TBH I also don't know :P... But you have a lot of subs to experiment with :ninja:...

Jokes aside, personally if I'm in your situation I will pick the iNUKE.. Mainly coz I always wanted to try class-D amp for sub.

Bear in mind being PA amps their fans could be very noisy though, so you probably need to do the fan mod..

The iNuke is about 200$ more than the other one, worth the extra price?

Don't know.. if possible see if you can try both.. Are those two your only options? Any other power amps in your consideration?

I run Behringer EP4000 amps which is class D power for my subs. Class D no problem for subs but fan is noisy. The Inuke 6000 sounds the better of the two amps for your situation but think fan may have similar noise problem. I put mine in another room so doesn't bother me. I would be asking a few amp related questions on the AVS forum somewhere in the DIY subwoofer category. Plenty of dialogue there between individuals with "unique" subwoofers and various amps employed to get every last drop of performance. Good luck can't wait to hear the feedback.

With regards to the fan mod for the EP4000, I purchased this fan thinking it would be a direct fit but had to be modified as the connector is different and is a 3pin where as the EP4000 connection is a 2 pin!

I had the right connector and pins thanks to my RC car racing days but I would suggest snipping and soldering the connection from the original fan and hot glue as it seems to be the flovour inside the EP's!

You may also need to buy a bump box to boost the line level to pro amps depending on what pre amp you have.

I bought the Samson S-Convert to do this for me

So just looking at the back of the amps, they arent for normal speaker wires, they are XLR and TRS connectors. How can i connect this to the subs? Do they require bare wire on the back?

Yeah I saw that sale, thats why i am looking at those amps at the moment. I have a Cary Cinema 11a which goes into some Behringer splitters to split the sub signals from 2 outputs on the Cary to 14 on the Behringers. From there it goes to my subs in the room. So i guess it would go from there to these Power Amps and then onto the subs.

Quick Lonewolf while they are only $500-

Nice! LW, get 4! :D

It doesn't push as much air though. 26.2 cfm = is roughly 44.5 m^3/hr, which is < 1/2 the volume of the 12V noctua at full speed. Depends on the volume required, may not be sufficient?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakon_connector

It looked like speakon connectors but yet on the website it says :-

XLR and 1/4'' TRS combination input connectors for compatibility with any source

Those XLR 1/4" TRS combo are inputs jacks (right of the pic).. The same jack accepts either TRS or 3pin XLR. You can see the white tab thingy (to lock the XLR into place) Also note the pin out table (pin 2 is + for XLR, tip is + for TRS)..

The speakons are in the middle (labelled output)... don't have that white tab, and twist lock. Note the wiring diagram (1+ 1-, 2+ 2-)

I use RCA to XLR from preamp to Behringer poweramp. I had no issues with this connection. I did develop a minor hum when I put the Samson s Convert in line but it doesn't bother me and you may not need to do this anyway.

So what do i have to do on the Sub end? Somehow ensure it has speakon connectors as well? I dont know how to apply them myself as in from bare wire to speakon sockets. Man this is getting confusing :)

What kind of connectors do you have at the sub end? Normal 5 way binding posts (ala hifi speaker style) or something else?

With normal hifi speaker cable setup, we split a +/- speaker wire into two (+ with red and - with black), and we plug 'em in.

Speakon jacks/connectors just combine 'em all a single connector. Hopefully this pic will explain better.. or

41MNem-KLhL._AA160_.jpg

i.e. you have a length of fig 8 speaker cable (+/-). One side speakon, other side banana plugs.

Not sure what the wirings are done with this (just 1- to black and 1+ to red, or both 1- and 2- to black and so on).. But most pro audio shops should have this, and you can ask 'em or google for the wiring chart if you want to make your own.

hopefully aj or bjc have can give more details.. (as I don't use speakon).

Lonewolf

1.Preamp (RCA) to Behringer EP4000 (XLR in channel 1)

2.Behringer EP4000 (Speakon Connector out channel 1) to SUB (Speakon connector)

So for me there are two cables used. First cable is RCA one end XLR the other. Second cable is Speakon Connector one end Speakon Connector the other (Speakon to Speakon).

It will depend on what connections are on the sub as to what cable you will need (did they include 8ga cable mentioned in the first post?).

My Behringer amp allows for Speakon,XLR or TRS connections (I think binding posts are possible too) but I find the Speakon connector the best, then XLR (can lock in too) then TRS (doesn't lock in). The sub may only have one option to connect.

I use 12 gauge Cable for the Speakon to Speakon (balanced), the RCA to XLR (unbalanced) is a normal Microphone type cable

I've been through this procedure recently and I think sub EQ will probably be necessary to get the maximum performance from this huge box.
