Thought I would start up a discussion thread for those fans of UFC.

my thoughts after 110:

Big event. Shows how the sport is growing.

Big Nog - great submissions but doesnt have the stand up to go with the big boys anymore

Cain - a serious contender for the title. After the Mir/Carwin/Lesnar situation is sorted this guy must get a title shot.

Bisping - lacked power for me in this match and I have doubts on his abilities to get to the top.

Silva - very entertaining fighter who still packs a punch.

  • Well, well, well, did not see that coming. KaPow 🥊😴 Max is the BMF, what a performance!!! Hoping Gaethje is OK 🙏 and Max can walk tomorrow 😆   Really enjoyed the full card ✌️

  • Well here's a dead thread resurrection for you...   UFC 300 this Sunday.  I'm looking forward to the card, but I feel it's underwhelming for such a key event.  Anyway, Garbrandt and Figueire

  • It's a pity we won't see the early prelims (not usually covered and hope I am wrong) as would like to see the Turner v Moicano and the Garbrandt v Fig bouts. Really looking forward to Holloway v

i don't mind bisping, unfortunately he seems to be one of those guys that people take a dislike to, no one seems to like him much.

i think he was a little tentative in his match. i would of liked to of seen the match --score if silva hadn't of had that great last ten seconds of the fight. up to then i think it was anyones.

my two favourite fights were the stephan bonner one, and the george s[don't know how to spell his last name] fight.

as for cain, i think he could be the one to topple brock lesnar, he's certainly powerful enough.

glad mirko won. he's one of my favourite fighters. this win will do his confidence a world of good. rothwell would of been a much harder fight.

Yeah I agree with you. I think it was perhaps the english/australian dislike over here. He definitely was tentative. Ttried very hard for a take down but just couldnt nail one of them

Yeah the australian guy did really well. Stevenson is no push over.

I felt sorry for the guy who stood in. He was totally outclassed.

UFC = Darwinism in action, lets hope they all kill each other, and then I feel the gene pool will be all the better for it.

Hey... you don't want to disappoint all the women out there who crap on like harpies about their "caring, sharing peace love and non-violent attitude to life and men", by removing the "Neanderthal" guys that they actually get all hot and sweaty over, do you?! B):ninja:

People gotta make a living some how in a world with a population that's getting way, way out-of hand, don't they? :(

well if they kill each other the ratings will be better for it.

Then bring on ratings season.

yes I do! :ninja:

So can anyone beat Velasques in the heavy weights? He certainly looks very fit and fast.

Also, when did Jardine ever win a fight? I've only seen him get knocked out.

well lesnar is the champ atm. Also frank mir and shane carwin are fighting soon for the interim title. So those are the 3 up the top. You can definately add velasques to the mix though.

jardine is 14 and 8

he has a couple of big scalps in the way of chuck liddell and forrest griffin.

hes got no hope of a title though

pfft Griffin got embarased by silva.

those wins by jardine must have been when he was a bit younger, he's looking very slow these days

Yeah that was a shocker but remember griffin was once the light H.W champ.

Where in Sydney should I go to watch UFC111 Sunday 28th March?

(Lookin' forward to it mightily btw!)

I imagine it will be a similar schedule to the usual, prelim cards around 1-2pm Sydney time, main cards from around 3-4pm Sydney time.

Need somewhere near a train station, in or not far from the city as I need to head to Luna Park afterwards for Hatebreed & Machine Head @ the Big Top.

I see the foxsports page: "Find a venue for Fight Night" lists the following for UFC111, in my likely order of preference at a glance:

1) Scruffy Murphys (43 Goulburn St. City)

2) Vegas Hotel (54 Darlinghurst Rd. Kings Cross)

3) Cremorne Hotel (287 Military Rd. Cremorne)

4) Tea Gardens Hotel (2 Bronte Rd. Bondi Junction)

5) Petersham RSL (7 Regent St. Petersham)

6) V Bar Sydney (111 Liverpool St. City)

Don't think I've been to any of those, or not for a while at least.

Any of those have a good size / big screen(s) showing UFC with good sound and plenty of seats?

And would anyone recommend a good value meal at any?

What's Scruffy Murphy's like? I may even have been there a couple of times & forgot.

I think the Cremorne Hotel looked pretty big & good last time I checked.

(That means a bus, but I should be able to deal with that if need be.)

Petersham RSL is probably a bit too far from the city for my liking.

V Bar looks a bit swick – kinda interested to check it out one day, but I generally avoid places that look like that.

Cheers.

a couple of good fights coming up in the next 24 hrs.

Brandon Vera Vs. Jon Jones

Junior Dos Santos Vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

I reckon 10HD is going to play it also.

good wins from Jones and Dos Santos.

Jones looks the goods to become a champion. He's still only 22.

Gettin' amped for UFC111, should be a nice few hours over a couple of beers!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_111

Betfair odds atm:

St-Pierre $1.17 v Hardy $6.00

Mir $1.70 v Carwin $2.32

Pellegrino $1.52 v Camoes $2.74

Fitch $1.32 v Saunders $3.85

Miller $1.31 v Bocek $4.00

Diaz $1.33 v Markham $3.60

Yea, I thought GSP would be favourite, but still surprised at just how much by.

I like GSP & Mir too, let's hope for good honest fights that go for at least a couple of rounds each!

Shane Carwin is the real deal......wow.

Ill keep this thread running although most are more interested in politics.

anyhows big fight this weekend. Machida vs shogun 2 for the light heavyweight title. ;)

I saw a UFO and nobody believes me.......

I was 16 miles from home, nobody in sight... :ninja:

What a sweet win for Shogun. How mauled did Machida look!!

Kimbo is gone. Just doesnt have the build to develop the cardio needed.

Daley is an absolute tosser. Doubt Dana will ever have him back after what was said in the locker rooms.

One of the better events of recent times.

Apparently Kos now coaches in TUF 12 against GSP with the title fight at the end of the season.

Id like to see shogun fight silva. Basically I just want someone to knock out silva and send him down a couple of notches.

im really looking forward to lesnar v carwin. that one should be huge.

anyone watching it............anyone..............anyone...........bueller.

big ufc event going on at the moment.

unfortunately i won't be getting the ppv, i have in the past, around 7 or 8 times i think. i just don't think its value for money, around $40.

we get the prelims for free on fuel tv, so that leaves about 5 fights left on the main card.

there was one event a while back where 3 or 4 of the fights ended very early, so the whole card was over in no time at all.

to make up for it they start showing some of the prelim fights, but fans would've already seen those.

i believe that the prelims should be part of the ppv, that way you know there'll be lots of fights for your money.

theres a couple of fights this time around which i'd love to see as one of my favourite fighters is involved, but alas, its not going to happen.

The Pride tournaments in Japan were much better. they had all the best fighters, that was before the ufc brought them out years ago. Now it's just a money making machine with every kid wanting the top job and belt.

There were other great events too, holland free fight, pancrase was good and the world vale tudo stuff from the early 90's was just brutal.. I had stacks and stacks of videos, before dvd came out.

The early ufc's were good, no weight classes and no gloves.

$40 is too much, like you say, fights can be over in 20 seconds.

Sakuraba from Japan was a legend... the gracie hunter..

yeah i like looking at the pride fights as my favourite fighter crocop was very good in those days.

there was some cheating going on though with pride as it was so popular and corruption became part of it. i've read old fighters stating that they were to do this or that in a fight.
