hopefully this is taken as a constructive comment, and not a complaint ...

disabling search completely makes the forum almost unusable, as it breaks the "view new posts" function:

It certainly makes it very hard doesn't it!

Yep, that stuffed my morning routine at work too.:winky:

Although, having said that, I haven't had any problems at all this morning, and it's quicker than it's been for months.

Good (temporary) move I reckon. Let's face it - it's only the grumpy old members that use the search functions anyway. Right Lyle? :winky:

+1 - I couldnt tell you where all the threads im active in are! - without the 'view new posts' im dead in the water!

Caniffe - can you pls ressurect THB - Im afraid the gals have .. well its probably best i go in alone to 'clean up'....

No OT (THB) and no Find-new-posts makes Bitey say :(

I'd be happy for the search to take longer, unsure if this is doable - a slower (ie 30 seconds) find-new-posts search would be preferable to none at all.

Nuff of that.. said now..

So whats the go with the forum - is it in 'cripple' mode so we can at least have a forum? - this is better than not having a forum :-)

Cheers,

Sinkey

thanks for bringing it up AndrewW, wasn't sure how to say it myself.:blush:

Happy to risk "taking one for the team" ...

"View new posts" and the "goto last unread" functionality are what sets this forum above the likes of whirlpool.

Maybe we should remove all branches and only allow posts in one  Like some others, I'm having an unusually productive day at work today :)

Correct, we are in criple mode whilst we combat a range of things.

Its when the forum is not available that you really begin to see how much it has become part of the 'URL' list when you sit at the computer....

Nice to have you back ...DTV !! :D

so far, so good...:)

quick too!

DONT BREAK IT.

Still a bit flaky Caniffe as you are no doubt aware.

Cut and pasting link doesn't work but inserting the link does.

Often click on a topic and get an error message but next time it works.

Will be interesting to see what happens when it gets a bit busier.

But at the moment I have to say it's the best it's been since last week. Good luck.

Indeed,

I won't take up too much space other than to say it's good to see us working again. ;)

Cross fingers...

Invision will come back with a fix for the javascript related problems as Lyle mentioned.

If I search for my beloved TiVo keyword I get...

"One or all of your search keywords were below 6 characters" (etc)

IIRC it used to be a minimum of 4 characters, could we have that setting back please?

Cheers

Ron

As has been discussed many times, we are in lockdown mode so some features will be unavailable. This includes shortened text searches.

There is another thread in this forum which will assist you by using Google's Site Search.

Anyone would think you were happy or something.......................... :ninja::P

Actually I got the "server is busy" message when posting, then I saw I had a double-concatenated-post, and after 5 attemtpts to fix it, all resulting in "server is busy", I gave up

Caniffe,

Is the post auto-merge turned on purposfully ?

Because it's a PITA.

See here for an example of me responding to two completely different posts, but the answers being combined into a single post, which is (IMHO) confusing.

We had that before ...it got canned eventually

Best way to get around it until it gets modified ( if ever) ...post a quick "test" in Red Text Thread then whip back and post your next post ...IF you wanted them separated

Gotta keep em separated ...

:winky:

And Bingo....we have Separation

:winky:B)

Invision will come back with a fix for the javascript related problems as Lyle mentioned.

So, just wondering, as it stands, is this a days, weeks, longer problem??

Or, are we going to have to make some changes for the long term regardless, for the stability of the forum???

Or is it just too early to ask these questions???

Probably just too early to get an answer! ;):P
