Adjustment To "sale" Policy

Featured Replies

Hi,

A few of you have PM'd me recently either here or through MSN regarding the for sale policy and its enforcement. We have been flexibile in the past allowing these threads to the point that once off sales by members are okay. What I have noticed (and what needs to cease) is the eBay generation signing up for new accounts, posting a thread to a sale and then disappearing.

So let's try a new rule. From now on, if you spot a thread where someone is selling something - check their post count. If it is below let's say 50 posts, I want you to report it. In said report, use something really obvious like EBAY SELLER - REMOVE as the subject line so that it is dispatched quickly.

If the person's eBay link is clearly a commercial operation, use something like EBAY SELLER - BAN REQUIRED.

So this is only to report FS threads with Ebay links right ?

Actually I thought Ebay links were no go from the start

Actually what does this serve to prove Caniffe

the banning of DTV harware that is relevant to this forum ..to help promote the uptake of either digital or HDM ??

just because a few noses have got out of joint for whatever reason ..there is talk of banning a la AVS forums ?

Ebay sellers or not ..a lot of people would like access to the hardware and just because one person doesnt like it ..everyone has to suffer ?

How do you define by post count whether someone is genuine ?

what are we coming to ?

What is the reason for not having a for sale section (with the same guidelines eg members only, no commercial sales, ebay etc etc)

I take it this must have been looked at otherwise we would have it.

Thanks

We'll tackle the eBay annoyance first, then look at how we can harden the other problems.

No probs. ;)

So business as usual then ;)

Although at least I know the exact words to use now :D

We have the ebay thread in the HT subforum, where eagle eyed members frequently link DTV and HT hardware for sale on ebay. Even members link to their own sales in there. So I don't think the community will lose all that much from this proposition.

I agree with the intent of what Caniffe is proposing. Let's give it a try. We can always tweak things as we go. :)

I would be very much in support of this move caniffe. obviously this website is for the use of us endusers and you have been most generous to allow us utilise it for the odd member sales that only promotes the uptake of digital or HDM. and obviosuly this will discourage people jsut joining up to peddle there wares and then take off. or commercial businessness coming on here jsut to "use" the forum to peddle there wares using it as another sales outlet, turning it into their market place !

I think very much inline with the forum guidelines,

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=boardrules

however perhaps worth adding in the bit about 50 posts atleast for people linking to their private ebay sales. unless want to keep it at a discretionary level as has been in the past :)

Merely targeting the fly by nighters.

hi there

i'm no flyby guy.. i've registered here and not posted, I just lurk.

that being said, i'm thinking of selling my marantz cd72 and linking it here from ebay, would that get me banned?

I'd rather the unit go to someone from here as its in mint condition, however after reading this thread, I cant see my post lasting too long?

Try this line of thinking.....

How does DTV-forum benefit out of this??? B)

Perhaps give ppl here an option for a little while, before listing it on eBay.

I think thats the key MTV..

If you really would prefer it to go to a DTV member, then list it here for at least a week... if no ones interested you can then put it on ebay and link it back to your original thread where you offered it to DTV members incase anyone didnt see it in time and is genuinly interested.. Cant see the harm in that particular scenario

Cheers,

Bitey

Neither can I, but it would be nice for people to think of it as a "give and take" deal.

Participate in active forum discussions, build a post count up to - say 15,000 posts*** and in return gain some benefit.

***Obviously, the required post count would reduced in the event of the sale of white goods - such as white beetroot, white vans, and white anti-xmas-music-speaker-wire-corrosion-salt....

What are you saying PZ ? - White Van goods arnt better than the normal retail 'knock offs' ?? :)

It's a clearance "adjustment sale" move the shtuffff through before the post count taxman arrives in the "scortchie" limo.

I believe that would be the key, as mtv said. If it was here first, then ebay (but not then relinked here) - then it would be okay given your join date and lurker status.

Ah but Bitey that wouldn't be allowed, because multiple sales from the same person would be considered a commercial enterprise and thus you would be suspended.

How long would said suspension be for? :)

:gets excuse pad out:

1.But im doing it for the love of my fellow members and the DTV forum :)

2.Its some old stuff ive got

3.Its a hobby and im not making any money out of it bar my substantial runnings-costs

4.Ive made some bad decisions buying stuff and am just trying to recoup some costs

**** First 10 PM's only (dont cc Caniffe!)
