DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Was out looking at TV's today (Spare TV) and came across a Viewsonic N3240wb 32" Widescreen HD-Ready LCD TV http://www.viewsonic.com.au/products/lcdtv...s.php?n=N3240wb Comes with a 3 year onsite pickup and return warranty for $699.00 If anyone out there has one or has seen one in action. What are your thoughts on this TV? ATM I am considering the following Units - Acer 32" LCD $699.00 (After $99.00 Cash Back) with 3 Warranty (Have to drive 40min to get it) - http://www.acer.com.au/acer/akc/lcdtv.nsf/...;ms=expand& Soniq 32" Plasma $658.00 Inc 3 Year Extended Warranty (Local) - http://www.soniqav.com/Qvision.php?mdm=ec5...f4e5deb94b11209 Viewsonic 32" LCD Inc 3 Year onsite pickup and return warranty for $699.00 (Local) - http://www.viewsonic.com.au/products/lcdtv...s.php?n=N3240wb I really wanna get one this weekend but would love some thoughts from someone on the above. Hope to hear from someone soon Thanks in advance ZOIDBERG
mcduck Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 nope, i remember asking about viewsonic in the middle of last year, nothing. goodluck
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks for the reply I have no idea which one to get. Anyone wanna point me in the right direction with these 3 units?
Morphal Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 We have some Viewsonic LCD's at work and they're great quality, so I'd hope their LCD TV's would be as good. I'd go with the brand name, plus the 3 Year onsite pickup and return warranty has an edge.
mark_s Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 officeworks sell them they are 699 there too i believe all viewsonic have 3 years warranty i have dealt with their warranty department before very simple easy to fix if something is faulty. i have had the one on display running for like 4 months now and hasnt skipped a beat thats 24/7 too
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) Thanks guys! Im off to office works to get me one. Edit - Just purchased one of these ViewSonic 32" LCD's and I am now taking it back (Only had it 20min) due to 16-18 dead pixels!!!!!!! Might go with the Soniq 32" Plasma now Edited January 27, 2008 by DR.ZOIDBERG
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Just did a count again and found 21 dead pixels (sorry couldnt edit for the second time for some reason)
mark_s Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 woah 21 dead pixels! never even seen that many dead pixels on 1 screen before more than likely a 1 off with that particular tv as stated we sold about 10 of these tvs and none of em came back, or even a mention of 1 dead pixel from anyone.
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) I must have really bad luck. Every time I buy a LCD I always need to take it back for this reason. I have now purchased 4 LCDs and had to take them all back. Looks like I should go with a Plasma. What are the chances of a Plasma having a dead pixel? Well I did see the 32" Sonic Plasma on display @ JB yesterday and it had 2 Black dead pixels on the blue screen. WTF is going on. Its starting to get to me! Edit - just got back from looking at a 32" Plasma and did notice burn ins all over the place on it. Cricket score and the channel 9 logo was always there and did go away after 10min on white screen. Seem to get more noticeable on white screen after awhile which seemed odd. Im gonna have to wait for some $$ to built up and get a good LCD Edited January 27, 2008 by DR.ZOIDBERG
rhyno79 Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 If you are looking for cheaper LCD's, I recommend looking at Dick Smiths. They seem to have a few under $1000, 32" all with HD tuner and HDMI I haven't got one myself so cant comment on quality, but they seem ok
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 What price we looking at? If I am gonna pay $8-900, id rather get the good one for $1100. I was looking at ones for $600ish as they are half price and want it for a game TV
mark_s Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 go get the 37" hitachi if u can find it for a cheap price got mine for $1488
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 I saw a Toshiba 37" for $1099 New. No Built in HD Turner. Didnt get the model number.
Cucamonga Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I saw a Toshiba 37" for $1099 New. No Built in HD Turner. Didnt get the model number. Where was this at mate? That sounds like a bargain. Does it display HD resolutions or is it SD? No digital box doesn't worry me much as there is crap all on FTA.
Cucamonga Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Soniq 32" Plasma $658.00 Inc 3 Year Extended Warranty (Local) - http://www.soniqav.com/Qvision.php?mdm=ec5...f4e5deb94b11209 I'd stay away from it, those Plasmas are only SD resolutions.

I have yet to officially own my first LCD.
danie1 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 View sonic also has a 37" for $1000 was considering buying it the other week they seem to have a good warranty and pixel policy. But will properly just wait a week or so until till more funds arrive, cheap LCD's seem abit scary
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Yes the Toshiba was HD not Full HD tho
mark_s Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 yeh the hitachi is full hd 1080p with built in tuner too
kulfi Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Hi DR.ZOIDBERG, It's almost impossible to get a Full HD LCD in a size smaller than 40". The best you can get is 1366 X 768 pixels. Mind you, this is still capable of displaying 720p or even 1080i (but not 1080p) pictures. I have the Acer 32" LCD (AT3220B) which I got from Officeworks in March 2007 for $898. Didn't take the $99 cashback but took a 2-year warranty extension (5 year total) from Acer. It only has an analog tuner so you'll have to shell out extra cash for a HD Set Top Box. I paid $99 for a Legend LHD3 box (with free HDMI cable) from DSE. The picture quality of the Acer (on HD free TV @1080i or DVD) is very good and it's great value for money. I'm happy with it and would recommend it to others. I've seen the Viewsonic at Officeworks and it looks really downmarket. Going by the cheap stickers and ugly cabinet, I'd say Viewsonic is getting them from a C-grade LCD factory in China and putting its stickers on. It's good that you saw the dead pixels and returned it. Avoid plasmas or no-name LCDs like Soniq, Palsonic, Conia, AWA, DSE etc. My picks at different price points - Below $1000 - Acer AT3220 (or AT3720 if you can get your hands on one) Between $1000 and $1100 - Sony 32" V Series or S Series / Samsung 32" R81 (with HD tuner built-in) Between $1100 and $1250 - Sharp 37" (obviously with HD tuner and a panel made in Japan) Don't hesitate to negotiate with the salesmen. The best deals are available only after a bit of tough bargaining. Good luck !
