I almost bought a carton of the 'mid' ale but it only comes in bottles and I prefer cans. I might have to go back to bottles again to try it.

I've learnt the hard way to test a new beer with 1 stubbie rather then buy a whole carton of something I cant stand :)

The container the beer comes in....give me bottled beer any day of the week.Cans I swear I can taste em :) :o

please excuse the inaccuracy of my avatar..should have been a stubbie on the belly..

Almost exclusively a red wine drinker these days.................

Used to love a good malt whisky.............Glennfiddich the fave..........alas the older I get, the less it loves me.

The last few years it's been mostly Merlot's, but I'm rediscovering big, big Shiraz's.

By far the nicest drop I've tasted in the past few months was a 1992 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz that a mate of mine brought round thinking I might appreciate it......I did :)

It might be called the "poor man's Grange", but I'll happily be poor if it tastes like that. I've only tried Grange on a couple of occasions and both times it lacked the age and careful cellaring of the 1992 Bin 389.

This mate has very good taste in most things and he and his wife spend a lot of time listening to live music. However, he listens to B*se at home........go figure!

Cheers

Tony

PS At least his B*se speakers are 901's that he has lovingly cared for since the early 70's and recently totally refurbished.

B*se.................that damned four letter word again.

Carlton Draught stubbies to cool down, and Jameson Irish Whiskey to calm down.

With all the talk of Coopers MILD ale lately I went out and bought 1 stubby.

I did a 'blind' test of the Coopers beers I had in the fridge, with the help of the missus.. The LIGHT, LAGER and the MILD.

The LIGHT was an easy pick - smooth, sweeter and went down like lollie water.

It was harder to pick between the other 2 though.

The LAGER was a little more bitter than the MILD, I think.

I think I'll buy a carton of the MILD, it really does taste like a full strenght beer without the kick of the LAGER.

The MILD stubby had a lot of very dark sediment in the bottom and I had to tip the last drops out (WHAT!). is this normal and would it be better to lay the bottles down on the beer fridge shelf to get the flvour mixed well?

Iwouldnt need the missus to help me with a blind test of alcohol Grumpy, I seem to be able to get to that stage quite well on my own. :)

I know with the coopers ale some people prefer the stubbie to be rolled a bit on its side to mix sediment; maybe the mild ale needs that?

Thanks cooksta. The talk is that the MILD is the closest of the Coopers to their Pale Ale. Yes, when I buy my carton on payday I will definitely lay them down before I put them down. Can't be throwing good grog away .

You have to have the sediment in the beer with Coopers (I turn it upside down for a while), you lose the taste otherwise. No other way to drink any Coopers in my opinion, but I've never had their lager.

G'day Grumpy

There are 2 thoughts on this:

1. Pour it all in

2. Isolate the yeast

Either tastes the same I reckon. Pouring it all in clouds the beer.

For mine, I store in fridge standing up.

I always pour into a glass slowly, slowing down more towards the end, catching the yeast in the neck of the bottle. You lose ~5-15ml of beer.

I'm not keen on cloudy beer in a glass.

I don't notice ANY loss in flavour doing this.

Others say they do.

Ya gotta figure it out for yerself.

Have fun figurin'

G

I don't mind my beer cloudy. Looks like me and Mr Happy Pants have the opposite views on drinking Coopers - each to their own, try both ways and see what turns you on (wow, that could certainly be taken the wrong way :) ).

DS

Most bars that serve coopers roll the stubbies across the bar to stir up the sediment into the beer.

I guess the idea is you finish the beer be for the sediment sit at the bottom agoin - never an issue when a beer is in my hands! I've had to learn that its ok not to have a drink in my hands occasionally when drinking beer. ESPECIALLY if drinking pints or long necks... Some part of my brain thinks "oh beer in hand must consume quickly!" unfortunately this more often than not starts in laughter and ends in tears.

"I do not know of what you speak"........I wish!

I was a big fan of the pale ale but have started drinking Pure Blondes (trying to watch the weight a bit haha) and they are not bad by any means.

I like my bundy, don't mind a decent red (usually cab sav) every now and then and am also on occasions get into a bit of champers (asti and omni blue, i just love the sweet ones haha).
