Meh - kids can swim (sometimes, even in cold) and they *were* dropped, wonder who suggested 'parents' doing so:-)

Eitherway, beware alcoholics on ships:-))

Ask yourself these questions...

Did your income increase because of the strong economy? NO

Did it increase because of John Howard? DEFINETELY NOT

Did it DECREASE because of John Howard? YES.....NO HOLIDAY OR SICK PAY..SAME RATES

Did your expenses go up or down because of the strong economy? UP..FUEL PRICES BROUGHT ON BY "THE CHINA SYNDROME" DRIVEN BY THE "AUSSIE BOOM"

Did they go up or down because of John Howard? UP..SEE ABOVE

How much profit did your bank make this year? Where did they invest the money? LOTS...WHO KNOWS PROBABLY NIGERIA

How much did you contribute to the $17b budget surplus? BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS

What did you recieve in return? A KICK IN THE GUTS

Ask a more important, fair dinkum question:-

Are you better off than you were 10 years ago? NO

If you are - be happy and grateful - and stop whinging.

No need to be jealous of those who did even better - Are you better off? ME? NO!!...JEALOUS OF THOSE WHO ARE BETTER OFF?? ONCE AGAIN NO!!......ITS MY JOB TO LOOK AFTER NUMBER ONE ..AND FAMILY :angry2:

WTF SORT OF QUESTION IS THAT ABOUT WHICH POLITICAL PARTY ..BUT OK SINCE YOU INCLUDED IT...I..WE ...NOW HAVE A GREATER CHANCE OF BEING THE VICTIM OF A VIOLENT POLITICAL ACT DUE TO ONE SIDED BIASED POLICIES.....WE ALSO RISK ALL THE HEALTH PROBLEMS THAT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASE IN THE AVERAGE GLOBAL TEMPERATURE, WHICH HAS NEEDED ACTION NOW FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS

Better health? ??? SLOPPY LEGISLATIONS ALLOWING BANNED SUBSTANCES AND MEDICINES TO PASS OUTDATED CONTROLS....WHATS IN THAT PILL YOU ARE TAKING?.....WHAT IS REALLY IN THAT MARGARINE ??

Free and open society? NOT DONATED BY HOWARD...FOUGHT FOR AND PAID FOR BY THE DIGGERS...HOW DARE YOU.....AND MAINTAINED BY THEIR DESCENDANTS

Freedom to whinge? FOR HOW MUCH LONGER ?

I see no recent Iraqi boat people.

That'd be because dunderheads like yourself aren't mentally equipped to understand that post the "Liberation" of Iraq by U.S. led Coalition forces, Iraqis who'd like to come here can do so by air, and any who may wish to flee their country by surface borne vessel must try to run the gauntlet of (argueably) the most heavily patrolled waters in the World.

There's no cameras around to record another 'refo' vessel sent to the bottom in order to "save the Free World from possible terrorist elements fleeing a peace loving liberated Nation like Iraq" in Gulf waters - but then folks like yourself like it that way... <_<

The World and Australia are obviously better off for monkeys with covered eyes and ears but loud mouths dripping with rabid saliva agape like yourself than they were 10yrs ago... You're right to enjoy it while it lasts. <_<

"Australian families have never been better off", John Howard, Prime Minister-LIB

Well, it looks like any attempt by the LIBs to down the opposition by way of dirty tactics is going to fail.

So between now and November it'll time to pull out the white rabbit.

here's a few thoughts... (not neccesarly my opinion, but i think this is what the voters want to see)

reverse workchoices

pull out of iraq

hand over the 17b surplus to the reserve bank and spend it upon approval from ALL parties

introduce a "safety net" of cash to stop super funds from taking your money if they go broke

introduce leglislation to make it "illegal" for companies to lie to employees and customers

prosecute petrol companies who artificially inflate petrol prices

STOP petrol stations INCREASING the price of LPgas when petrol prices are forced down by "shame"

introduce a fairer tax system for low to middle income earners

replace the 1st home buyers grant with a "before tax repayments" scheme

lower the tax rate on extra income from overtime, 2nd job, or rental income

REMOVE capital gains tax for selling houses or a block of land

DELETE the requirement for tax returns! i.e. charge the right tax to start with instead of sitting on our money

Introduce a tax system for large companies a % of profit over a given figure

ie. set a figure for banks at say $300 million. if they make $400 million they pay 10% tax on the extra $100 million.

(this will remove the incentive to be so bloody greedy!!!)

THESE ARE JUST IDEA'S TO MAKE LIFE A BIT EASIER FOR BATTLERS & ANY COMMENTS ON THE ABOVE ARE WELCOME

The parties would then ultimately spend it on themselves because that's about the only thing they would agree on.

As for our tax and welfare systems the biggest issue is the overall complexity. I'm for the following,

1) Increase the tax free threshold and abolish the low income rebate.

2) Set the 40% tax rate well above mean incomes (say 2x) and abolish the 45% tax rate alltogether.

3) Abolish the medicare lavy, surcharge and the private health insurance rebate and re-examine the ideal for the role of private health cover and how this can be achieved more simply.

4) Apply the GST to all consumable items. The states in exchange should remove stamp duty from property transactions.

5) Remove work related deductions for wage and salary earners.

6) Remove all investment related deductions for non incorporated entities with the exception of the cost of finance (loan interest) and place a cap on the latter. The cap would need to be higher than the income an investment would generate to allow for a limited level of negative gearing.

7) Bring tax and social security under the one structure, that is benefits paid for having a dependant spouse and children could be paid in the form of tax rebates which could go negative under some circumstanses (financial assistance from the government instead of paying tax). There are various forms this could take including income splitting between a working and non-working partner.

8) Place income limits on the above rebates, but do not means test them. Withdrawing such benefits via a means test results in punitive rates of taxation higher up the income scale as the benefit is withdrawn.

The above should be seen as a means of simplifying the tax system. The impact on different socio-economic groups can be managed by where the thresholds for the tax rates and rebates are set.

Some good suggestions there.

The GST was supposed to replace stamp duty in the 1st place in 1999, something for Kevin Rudd to fix no doubt.
