tal Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Hi, I need some advice on repairing my Mitsubishi DA-A10 stereo power amp. It's working fine (still I hope) but I get a nasty thump through the speakers at switch off. It would also (if left on) occasionally put a crack through the speakers. I bought it second hand, and someone in the past has removed the earth pin from the plug to probably fix a ground loop in their system. I thought maybe it was a simple matter of DC offset, and needs rebiasing the output transistors..? And possibly a new plug? I found a place online here in Melbourne who ended up being simply a commission based front end who subbed the job out to Midcity TV in Fitzroy. (Yeah I know). At least they collected it - for $65, to be knocked off any repair if I go ahead. After two months, and repeated chasing on my part, they've finally managed to get me a quote - $472. I'm awaiting a faxed breakdown, but ultimately have very little faith that these guys have the faintest idea what they are doing. Frankly, I'd pay that money if I thought they would do a great job. But my faith is somewhat wounded by now. I'd be interested in other peoples opinions, and a recommendation on who to trust the repair to (if it's generally agreed that the above is a p1sstake). Cheers Steve

tal Posted February 6, 2010 Author Posted February 6, 2010 Thanks for the tip Nude - he did a great job, it sounds much better now the bias is set. I had my Oatley valve pre tweaked up by him too, sounds out of this world now. I can highly recommend his work.
