How are you guys going to connect the bonus BDP-6900 to your TVs?

I use the analogue outs on my Oppo already and really notice the difference with HD audio so I'm not particularly keen to listen to DD or DTS only via optical from the 6900.

I'm just wondering if/can I use an HDMI splitter so that I can send the HD audio to my AVR separately to the video going to the TV? I emailed Keith at ezyhd.com.au and he couldn't see why not - just wondering if anyone knows for sure?

I'll be running the HDMI straight to the tv, then the 7.1 analogue outputs will go into the 5.1 inputs on the back of my amp(pre-HDMI) to gimme the HD audio. Pretty much what I've got going now with my BD-P3600.

I know that the new Pana 3d br players have two hdmi outs,

If one is hdmi 1.4 (video) and the other hdmi is 1.3 for audio then this should work on (legacy)1.3 avr's,

If you have a splitter and you are playing MvA in 3d then not sure of compatibility issues as both video and audio will be transferred per hdmi cable into avr and TV.

Checked out the 55"LED today at the GG's SouthWarf, just to get another feel for the whole 3d thang.. Highly recommend these guys, this guy was soo helpful, answered any q's we thew at him and was only too happy to demo the tv. Not once did he ask "are you guys going to purchase a tv today?"

We didn't mention that we were waiting for the sammy plasmas, so when we were checkng out the 63" Series 6, he said that this tv was only for people who want to brag to others that they have a 63"tv!! Too funny. What to ya reckon would be better for bragging rights... having a 63" TV or having a 3D tv?

The room that I'll be putting this puppy in will have me sitting at 5.25 mtrs. I stepped back from the 63" about that distance today at GG's and it was sweet, they had StarTrek playing.

Yeah that's what I'm not sure about.

I'm actually wondering with the PS3 getting an upgrade whether or not to leave the Samsung player in its' box unwrapped when it arrives and check if the PS3 can do it first.

Then at least I have the choice of selling the bdp-6900 2nd hand (albeit BNIB) if it's not going to deliver substantial 2D improvements over the PS3.

At 4.2m a 63" will be fine

In fact for THX 3.1m is the max, and 2.2m recommended for a 63".

But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what the numbers say, as long as you find it comfortable viewing the screen from a set distance.

Just be aware that at certain distances teh human eye cannot tell the difference between some resolutions, so make sure you can actually see the max resolution of your TV at the viewing distance you choose.

Thanks for the calcs Owen. I guess i'm not going for ideal viewing distance with the purchase of the 63". We currently view a 42" at that distance, we just wanted a bigger tv, and up until the release of the 63" Sammy, the 58" Panny was on the cards. I can't see ourselves sitting 3.1mtrs from this thing, even if it's the viewing limit. If we sit further back, it' not like the pictures going to get worse, we just won't be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080. As you said, they should make a 768p tv, but even then, "conned-sumers" would buy the FullHD 3D tv anyways.

The St Albans address is their old address, they must of moved, as Ive bought stuff from them before in store.

Do a google search for Digital Home Entertainment St Albans 40 Main St St Albans VIC, which is on the Samsung website as one of the places to buy their products, and have a look at the first result .

I think something is getting overlooked in the viewing distance calculations.

In a cinema the screen is large and we sit further away, so our eyes focus on an object quite a distance away.

If we sit proportionally the same distance away from a TV our eyes are focusing on an object much closer.

This would make some people feel nauseous.

So it can't be just a matter of sitting proportionally the same distance from a TV as in a cinema. Other factors also need to be taken into account.

And I have a hunch that 3D will only make the eye strain at close distances more pronounced.
