Wii're Here!

Featured Replies

I gotta say the rollout has been fairly shambolic.... the retailers have no idea whats going on, some have component cables, some don't, some have supposedly unreleased games (like Madden 07).

I'm hoping to acquire a component cable and madden 07 on thursday.... who knows if I will be succesful (I'm in Melbourne).

I picked up the Wii component cable this arvo. A definite improvement over the composite one that's for sure. The crawling ants I noticed on composite are now all gone as are some of the other image flaws I previously saw. The picture also appears sharper and colours are better. It still won't make your Wii look like a 360 of course but I'm just happy that I now how the best picture the Wii is capable of producing. And finally now I have no more excuses to delay playing Zelda.

Apparently not

Has anyone tried a Virtual Console game with the component cable?

Whenever I do, my Aiko LCD reports "No signal". If I switch to the regular a/v cable, it displays fine.

Guys guys. Would appreciate if you can let me know do you have any problem with running Zelda and Wii Sports on Component cable with the Aiko TV? I dont really care about the VC games. Just wonder if the Wii games are affected by the problem. Thanks a bunch. Planning to get one of this Aiko TV soon

Zelda works, for the most part. When you first start it and the wrist-band warning appears, the screen blanks. Push through it, and you're right. Haven't noticed any Wii Play issues. I scroll too far away from the centre in the Mii Channel, it goes off then too. Opening the Wii store doesn't work at all.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it for a Wii. Maybe you can buy mine cheap?

I don't have Zelda to test yet (will have in a week or so), so I can only comment on Wii Sports. I've had no problems with the Aiko 81cm and the Wii, other than the VC games (and I've only tried the really old ones like Mario Bros, and Donkey Kong on the NES). The Wii store works for me (hence the two VC games), and I haven't experienced any "screen blanking" issues at all.

Widescreen works fine, and the Aiko detects the component input (I'll confirm tonight exactly what it detects as).

I bought the Aiko almost entirely for the Wii, and I don't regret it one bit

Edit: detects at 720x480p @ 60hz

I got my Wii a couple of days ago, the last one at my local EB.

My wife and I have been having great fun playing Wii Sports together. She got so into the bowling game that she smashed a glass on the coffee table as she swung her arm to bowl the ball! Luckily no-one was hurt.

Both the cat and dog look at us as wondering what the hell we're doing and the dog wants to chase the imaginary tennis balls we're hitting around the room. Very funny.

The Wii is a great compliment to the 360. Fun multiplayer games at home on the Wii, serious arse kicking games on the 360 and HD-DVD movies as a bonus.

Anyone know where I can get an extra controller and nunchuck in Melbourne ?

All of the places in the city are sold out.

I bought mine at ToyRus chadstone. They got plenty there last Saturday

JB Hi fi had some when I went in a few days ago, and Myers had a bunch of stock (city and In Doncaster).

EB Games are such ripoff merchants. My son went in to our local EB today to buy a Wii game. It was marked as $109 and he pulled out the Myer catalogue which had the same game advertised for $79. They said "We only price match with stores in this shopping centre". K-Mart, which is in the same centre, also had the game advertised for $79, but the sale doesn't start until tomorrow. The smug b$&%(#% then said "come back tomorrow then". So tomorrow, he's going to buy it at K-Mart for $79 and go into EB and tell them that they not only lost the sale of the Wii and accessories, but also this game.

I have to wonder how some of these stores manage to stay in business. I guess they're targetted at hard core gamers who are too dumb to know when they're being screwed.

No they are targeted at mums and dads who are dragged into the store by their kids.

Us hard core gamers are smart enough to shop elsewhere ... and get our games much cheaper.

Andrew.

I totally agree. I went to chadstone last week to get my nunchuck and Raymond Rabbit on Wii. At EB it was marked as 109. Then I went to Kmart and found it for 89. I then checked Myer and oh lah lah its 79. WTH its just only few steps from the others. And more amazingly, I found like 3 ppl queuing at EB asking to buy the nunchuck came back empty hands while I found plenty at ToyRUs which is 2 doors from EB at the same price but noone care.

IME they aren't too bad. I bought Logitech PC speakers which was on sale on Target for $60 from RRP $100. It was DOA and Target didn't have any more left.

So off I went to EB and asked for a price match. They asked if the item is in stock at Target, to which I lied and said yes. Then they asked why didn't I just buy it at Target, to which I just casually replied I couldn't be bothered. They said ok then, sold.

So the key is, lie!

Never did like buying from EB. Useless staff and major rip-off in their pricing.

Lolz. I found it very difficult to look into their faces and say something not true. May try your trick next time then.

Global Recall Of Nintendo Wii Strap

AP Wire Service - Saturday, 16 December 2006

Nintendo has been forced to spend millions on a replacement strap for its news Nintendo Wii games controllers which has been flying out of consumers hands which being used to play interactive games on the new console.

The Japanese Company has said that it will replace all 3.2 million straps for its popular Wii computer game controller. The voluntary exchange program is a bittersweet development for Nintendo and a costly hitch in its three-way battle with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

The Wii's signature wand-like remote controller is used to mimic the motions of a tennis racket, golf club or sword, depending on the game. But soon after the Wii went on sale last month, people started reporting cases of the controller's strap breaking as they waved it about vigorously.
