Yeah sleek in that "so sleek you can't own it because they haven't got around to building it yet" sleekness.

Why would you want to buy a 360 and enjoy HD gaming when you can wait for 6 months (and probably more) and spend 50% more on something that pretty much does the same thing?

Some people just can't see common sense when it (turkey) slaps them on the chin can they HJ?

Yes indeed with no movies to play on it...great marketing by the the Blu Ray camp once again!

As for the PS3 being sleek, what pics are you looking at?

Dear Highjinx.I have follwed your support of BR vs HDVD and to a certain extent admired your single minded support of the theoretically technically superior format however with these recent posts you are just making a fool of yourself and have totally undermined any credibility you have had in my eyes.

Sony have certainly produced some great products over the years and as someone who likes 'real hi-fi' I have to admit to a 'latent' respect for some Sony products but your unswerving adulation of anything Sony , even if it is ocassionally somewhat 'tounge in cheek' leaves me wondering just how you have become so indoctrinated.

I don't care who wins the format battle as long as we end up with a product that the quality specialist manufacturers can turn into something that gives the end user a visually and audibly more involving experience than the current formats and preferably without all the restrictive copyright bullshit.

Get used to the "restrictive copyright bullshit" take your mind back to the days before cassette tape or reel to reel for that matter. One bought a record and played it and enjoyed it. It did not give one the right to make copies of it. The purchaser did not own the content. The same applies here. Simply because we have the means to copy it does not mean we have the right to copy it.....unless for reasons deemed suitable by the content owner.

As to which format wins I don't give a damn either. But my foresight says wait till march before jumping on the Hd-Dvd wagon train, for I fear Cluster is in charge of it.......heck all indications are that the full quota of the US PS3(300k+) have already been preordered there.

Let's look into the bedroom of the tech savy teen of the not too distant future, PS3 docking into a 1080p PC monitor on a swivel base that can turn 270 degrees. Parents follow up by a purchase of a stand alone BR player, as it's great to watch a Disney movie on the stand alone with the whole family as well have the kids take the copy into their bedroom to watch with their friends.

Fill in the blanks dear old boy..........need I say marketing momentum

BTW question the thinking behind statements by all means.

But we also don't have the right to play it unless we live in the right country, thanks to the wonders of region coding...

Hence, I refuse to get used to the 'restrictive copyright bullshit'...

Though this is a pain, the region protection scheme helps to protect the jobs of sons and daughters, brothers and sisters who work in Movie disk retail. Also if a movie of region 1 is cracked, it cannot flood the other regions over night.

Perhaps one day movie openings will happen globally on the same day, as well as disk movie releases......! I jest

Whatever credibility you had with the few people on here that listened to any of your tiresome BR propaganda (and I doubt there were many) must surely be shot to shlt now with pathetic, juvenile fanboy comments like that...

If you can't take part like a normal person in a conversation like this, f*ck off and go behave like a troll somewhere else...

You're a perfect reminder of why I don't spend as much time on here anymore

Listen very closely HJ, can you hear it? Its the worlds smallest violin playing at the death of BR. Its understandable youre in denial, or are you at the anger stage, seeing as youve reverted to petty name calling in other threads?

Maybe we can help you through the fear stage...

No doubt you found paradise in replaying your treasured Wiggles DVD's. Next you will find high 5 too demanding on you limited cerebral capacity.

Us grown ups can decipher a tounge in cheek comment from serious one, it takes maturity to be able to do that. Something you will discover when you eventually do grow up.

BTW please do not display your linguistic limitations by resorting to your 4 letter outbursts. Keep that for your private life. This is a public forum.

Yeah it's ugly and it's repetative and boring. It's just a shame that any chance of a reasonable discussion about either BD or HD-DVD is snuffed out when one individual goes past the point of taking part and just wants to take over.

I love the way so many threads devolve into a BR vs HD-DVD debate. This so reminds me of the countless threads on AVSForum that have taken similar tacks.

I might have a foot in the HD-DVD camp at the mo, having all along intended to be a BR supporter on paper(and having seen the early demos). The current reality is until we see decently priced BR hardware out there and more discs that are correctly mastered, perferably using larger capacity discs(as are on the way later this month in the US) or VC1 encoding, there isn't much of a contest. Bearing in mind I recently saw material on BR both in Japan and in Europe last month, including a side by side demo(with HD-DVD) by Sonic Solutions, the disc mastering company, shown on the latest 1080p Sony Bravia displays.

All in all though, I think it's still far to early to start declaring a winner in this format war, particularly when products haven't been released worldwide yet.

On the console side, having ben a console and computer fanatic since I got my first system, the Coleco Telstar Arcade in 1978, I've got plenty of history with software based game systems. I skipped the original XBOX for similar reasons it's now looking like I'll skip the 360, just too PC-like, especially the games. I just went and had a look at the latest editor's choice on IGN and I find that 4 of the 5 top games are already my favorite PC games, so why would I duplicate what I'm already enjoying on an SLI based PC with a 30" monitor. PS3 on the other hand promises a slew of non-pc titles and a different hardware approach that I find much more appealing. I was no great PS2 fan really either only having picked one up cheap in the last 2 years and don't use it that much frankly(I just had to get GTA SA though). I'm afraid the performance when it launched failed to really inspire me the way other systems have in the past. I am this time though looking forward to the PS3, both capability-wise and for getting an entry into the BR format without having to fork out for one of the currently overpriced standalone players.

True... this thread is really degenerating quickly...

There will be NO format war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD... just buy a player that plays both!

Pretty simple I reckon.

As for PS3 vs XBox... another dumb debate... kinda like Holden vs Ford. They are basically the same car that do the same thing. All depends on what tickles your fancy - unless you can afford both.

Let's close this thread!

All well and good in theory and also hardware. LG and then Samsung were promising one earlier this year until both format camps pointed out they would be breaching their licensing agreements by producing such a universal player. Article from July: Link Pioneer even had a dual format drive on the way but cancelled it : Link

I have no doubt we'll eventually see a dual player, but not any time soon.

I think you're over simplifying PS3 versus 360 there(you could have pretty well said that about PS2 vs Xbox). There is quite a difference in the new systems' hardware and little point making such a statement till we side them side by side.

I don't think so. The debate needs to be oversimplified coz we can debate all day over the specs of each machine but at the end of the day it comes down to game choice, convienence, and your legacy games. PS2 fans will prob go with PS3 and likewise with XBox fans. People like me who have never owned either can be thankful there is a choice!

Can Wii agree on that at least?!
