Jardry Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Hi, Can someone advise me whether DVD-RW can be reused with the above DVD Recorder? In order for the DVD-RW to be read by other DVD's it needs to be finalized. If it is finalized, does that mean that it is no longer rewritable? My mate's DVD can read DVD-R or DVD-RW, but not DVD+R or DVD+RW, which is why I am asking. Regards

Regards It certainly can, as I own one and have tried it with both -/+ types of RW as well as standard DVD's. Can I offer a little advice to you? I got mine from the web-site of Radio Parts Australia which appears to be linked to Wintal Australia (I think they are both in the same building) I think my X30 may be an early firmware version as it appears a little "glitchy" in some modes of operation - like trying to get back to the DVD menu from the TV menu, (and a few other little things which appear to be a once off) but that only seemed to happen on one night i tried it. ** as of January 12 (& perhaps earlier) there is a link on the Wintal Australia web-site to upgrade the firmware for "USB-to-DVD archiving" so at least Wintal actively support their product. It can now also be coded to read multi-regionional DVD's. This is the reason why I say mine was one of the first as I got it only a few days(November 28th) after the official launch (a week earlier?) and when I got it I scoured the manual (in easy to read English as opposed to Jap-lish etc) but couldn't see or find out how to set it to the multi-region. An email to RPA got a reply that they'd look into it. After not hearing back from them when they said " ... the next day ...", a second email got a reply that they were emailing the manufacturer about it. On the 13 Dec. I received an email reply about how to set it to multi-region (which I've been to lazy since then to do) ========== Unofficially the following is how to set the Multi-region reading setting (and no liability will be accepted by me for offering this information): The muilt zone information steps are step 1 open tray door step 2 press no 008600 and then press 0 then the dvd player will read the disc ========== The only other drawback I've found with the Wintal X30 was just last night (11th January 2006). I went to record a program, and I discovered that it does not allow for "one touch recording". Example 15 or 30 minute increments by pressing the record button numerous times like many other DVD recorders and VCR's. I'm am going to contact Wintal to ask if this can be added by a firmware update. It would seem that eBay Australia has better prices than buying from RPA ($299.00 AuD) but eBay's (only?) seller "OzAuctionBroker" doesn't seem to offer a "Buy It Now" option for a no waiting-no hassles-fixed price purchase. All in all it seems a good little recorder so far, especially for the -/+ option versus similarly featured machines that cost a lot lot more. Hope this helps .....
