Truffles - seasons opens early

Featured Replies

Just got this from my usual truffle person:

Our season is about to commence, small quantities coming out of the ground at the moment with all on board for harvesting this weekend.

I have laid out this weeks prices below, if you wish to place an order please get back to me either via reply email or give me a call.

First Grade @ $1500 per kg - being truffles over 20 grams in size

Smalls/pieces @ $1100 per kg - being small truffles and/or pieces of truffles under 20 grams in size

Freight and packaging @ $35 - up to 500 grams.

Minimum 100 grams.

Anyone in Melbourne interested? I usually go in with a small group so we can buy a reasonable amount and reduce the impact of postage. As the usual local price is often $3/g this is relatively cheap. I get it sent to me in Camberwell and then divide it up and deliver on my way home that day. COD

Mmmm! First truffles arrived yesterday. An order of 380g spread between 7 willing participants. Unfortunately going out tonight but will have to think up something for dinner tomorrow night! Maybe to taste that 2015 Parola Shiraz we got a couple of weeks back.

You have a "Truffle Guy"?

I love it!!

Leonie would probably prefer "truffle girl"...

Most restaurants in the Sydney CBD have a 'Now' Seasonal supply of Black Truffles.

Menu changes have been seen in the last week to reflect this.

A Lot Cheaper that the Imported Truffles I used to buy from Italy 2 years ago, mind you, they were White Truffles from one particular source.

What's the thing with truffles ?   They taste like mango-ey onions to me.    I realise that people love 'em, but why ?

mango-ey onions for 1500 a kg

Ah, each to there own and all that :)

Indeed.  I could eat my own weight in cherries or caviar or oysters or scallops or nicely-caramelised parsnips but truffles ?

All the more for the trufflistas I guess.   I plan on growing some next year so maybe I'll get to like them.
