cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Hi folks, I took delivery of a new custom made system rack/unit for my front room and I'd like to share some pics with you all. My camera is not great and my skills with it are even less than that, but I'll try and show you some better ones I've taken. Firstly, this is my front room system a few weeks back when I had some fellow SNAers over for a GTG. I didn't take the photo and it wasn't my camera.............which probably explains why it is a pretty good pic!! The following pics I've taken today. The unit was custom made for me by Uneke furniture up in the ACT and many thanks to Dan for his consultation and advice and for delivery a beautiful bit of furniture and all made and delivered to Melbourne on time..............which in fact was under two weeks from date of order. Happy days! Cheers, Keith
waricle Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Looking extremely cool! I think the arm on the top right hand shelf needs alignment though...
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Here's a few more. I was trying to getting a reasonable timber match to the Jarrah on the loudspeakers and the turntable plinth...........and I'm very happy with the end result. Jake Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Beautiful cabinet Keith! Thanks for the pics mate. Nice selection of gear you have there too!
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Looking extremely cool!I think the arm on the top right hand shelf needs alignment though... Thanks waricle, do you mean the ornament I stuck on that shelf? It's early doors and haven't time to put much in the unit yet..............will be mainly record storage on either side of the centre rack though I reckon, although others around here may have different ideas. Cheers, Keith
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 It looks really good Keith Thanks Jeff, I only wish my camera and my skills with it were better than they are! It does look a lot better in the flesh than it does in these pics. Dan and his crew did a sensational job! Cheers, Keith
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Beautiful cabinet Keith! Thanks for the pics mate.Nice selection of gear you have there too! Yeah thanks mate, we're getting there slowly and although it is not the most exotic equipment with a fair bit of DIY, it does sound good and makes the music pretty enjoyable............which is my aim anyway! Cheers, Keith 1
jaspert Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Thumbs up Keith.Nice match with your speakers veneer and Garrard plinth.
Grumpy Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Looking good there Keith. Gee that TT looks amazing on top now, but i think you need more gear to fill the rack up. If you fill the spaces with your records I wonder what effect the rack as a whole will have on sound-staging, etc.? Nice rack and thanks for sharing.
RockandorRoll Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 great looking unit. Matches the speakers perfectly what kind of wood is it made from?
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 great looking unit. Matches the speakers perfectlywhat kind of wood is it made from? It's Australian hardwood............Jarrah. Cheers, Keith
Guest Willow Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Not a bad timber match at all there Keith , that CD player is certainly put into perspective along side the TT. Enjoy..
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Very, very nice Keith.Cheers Thanks Paul............probably should have done it earlier but the size of the Garrard plinth was the impetus if you refer to 1st pic. Thumbs up Keith.Nice match with your speakers veneer and Garrard plinth. Thanks Jasper, we wanted something that was going to blend better than the old pine racks did and I've always liked the furniture pieces in preference to the tubes, steel and glass thingies that I'm sure wouldn't work in that room. Looking good there Keith. Gee that TT looks amazing on top now, but i think you need more gear to fill the rack up. If you fill the spaces with your records I wonder what effect the rack as a whole will have on sound-staging, etc.? Nice rack and thanks for sharing. No problem sharing with you mate;). Filling the racks with records I don't think will alter the SQ or change the dynamics of the system at all...............the only thing is that it may not look that great is all. In reality I had almost as much stuff between the speakers before and ideally I'd prefer nothing between them but air, but unfortunatley the room configuration just won't let me do that easily. Not a bad timber match at all there Keith , that CD player is certainly put into perspective along side the TT.Enjoy.. The big Droplet now looks more sane than it did before, because it really stood out and people not familiar with them would always be asking "what's that"? and then, "wow, how many cds does it take"?
caddisgeek Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Beautiful system Keith, what's your cassette deck?
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) Beautiful system Keith, what's your cassette deck? The CDP is a Consanance Droplet 5.0 caddie. EDIT: Sorry caddie, I should take more care reading questions like yours mate..............the deck is a Denon DRM-800A. Cheers, Keith Edited July 31, 2010 by cheekyboy Need to read question a little closer!!
Grumpy Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I'm reluctant to ask, but I must know, what is that strange looking thing in the right hand shelf Keith? Are we suppose to be looking at something like that at our age?
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 I'm reluctant to ask, but I must know, what is that strange looking thing in the right hand shelf Keith? Are we suppose to be looking at something like that at our age? Hi Grumps, we were looking for some things like ornaments etc to put in the shelves as it looks a bit bare at this stage and that was about the only thing small enough that we had. It is a trophy but obviously some native thing but I don't know what it is supposed to represent.................Evan got it when he toured in New Caledonia in a young junior tennis side from Australia back in 1998. I've taken it out now and put it back where we got it from. Cheers, Keith
cableconnoisseur Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Nice gear, Keith !! Those speaker cables look 'the business' too.............. Russ.
cableconnoisseur Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Beautiful system Keith, what's your cassette deck? At a guess............Denon DRM-700 ? Russ.
Keith_W Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Looks gorgeous, Keith! Must say, that is a pretty serious looking block of wood your turntable was sitting on in the "before" pic. I see you are not using it any more - have you noticed a difference? And like cableconnoisseur, I noticed the speaker cable as well ... is it Transparent, by any chance?
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Nice gear, Keith !!Those speaker cables look 'the business' too.............. Russ. How did those bloody cables get in the picture??............all jokes aside they're excellent Russ.
buzz lightyear Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 looking good keith mmmm more room on those shelves for more hifi
cheekyboy Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) At a guess............Denon DRM-700 ?Russ. Russ, I think I answered caddie incorrectly earlier as I thought he was referring to the CDP:confused: The deck is a Denon DRM-800A. I'll go back and edit my reply to caddie now, thanks mate. G'day Keith, the block I had under the turntable was a DIY thingy full of sand and it did add a lot of mass to that rack............not needed in the least with this one as it is extremely heavy and we're on a concrete slab as well. The cable is MIT Terminator 3. Cheers, Keith Edited July 31, 2010 by cheekyboy
