Using the bryston streamer here. I dont think there is a digital volume control on it. I have lowered the digital volume of the NAD M51 to -15db. Seems to quiet down. The strain is now on the amp at 85% of max volume to reach previous listening levels.

Just got the Directstream Initial Impressions DS -> very very quiet. beautiful tone. more liquid sounding. sound stage is slightly deeper. easy to listen to. M51 -> much better decays and airier. faster and more dynamic. more details. more texture and highly transparent.

so we seem to have established that Vega > M51 with more warmth and soundstage. Anyone knows how Vega compares to Directstream?

2) seems to have conflicting reviews on the resolution. if my aim is solely to increase the soundstage without sacrificing current level of detail, what would u recommend? imo price does not necessarily reflect the sonic quality of a dac.

Hi guys i am shopping around for a new DAC and would need recommendations. Using a NAD M51 with a BDP2 as transport now and would like to further improve on its soundstage, noisefloor and texture. I am thinking of 1) Bryston BDA 3 2) PS Audio Directstream 3) Auralic Vega Just wonder how the above 3 compares. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Yes. Those are the qualities that puts full range speakers costing few times its price to shame. Deep bass with those qualities will easily cost 10k upwards.

i do think the kef ls50 will last u a long time. its potential is only limited by your electronics and cabling.

not surprising. the macbook is still a noisy source. also different cables plays a part too. i have ditched amarra ever since i have gotten a bdp 2 with valhalla power cord. ultimately what you are hearing at the end of the speakers is the amplification of current. -
