  1. Bought a copy @ JB (Adelaide St Brisbane) for $59. Released for Mothers Day.
  2. Pre-order from JB but ended up paying near $80, got the bonus photo book. Still worth it. Mostly got it for the "Field Guide" feature. The background and interviews with the WWII vets give add depth to the excellent miniseries. Don't like the "enhanced viewing", prefer to go through the "field Guide" then watch the parts.
  3. Been a bit quiet on the BD front. Just had a look at ezyDVD site and I saw Saving Private Ryan was out. I'll get it at any price. But I've been waiting for Patton. A Bargain for $28. A great film. More a Bio than a war film. George C Scott is just great as one of the greatest WWII soldiers.
  4. Thanks diesel. I'll follow it up. I was a bit lazy in not searching. I don't use the TV tuner much. I'm not sure Foxtel broadcasts all the free-to -air digital channels. SBS is just shocking through Foxtel. Is it any better through the TV Tuner? Don't watch SBS too often. Just with the World Cup and Tour de France.
  5. For the last couple of years I've been using my 40 inch Sony XBR through my Foxtel IQ2. Unhappy with the picture quality of SBS(Standard Def) though the IQ2, I though I'd try to watch it through the XBR tuner. The SBS HD through IQ2 is running the 3D channel. Firstly the digital channels I had set a couple of years ago didn't seem to work, so I tried a Quick Scan. Still no joy, so I did a full scan. Still no channels detected. I can pick up analogue. I'm sure I got Digital HD channels through the XBR tuner before. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running the sound out through optical to my Onkyo reviever. No that that should matter. Audio works with analogue channels. Am I missing something? Have things changed in the last couple of years? Do I need a new aerial? I'm in BrisVegas if that helps. Thank in adavance.
  6. For Sale: Magnum Force $18 plus postage Brand New still in wrapper from JB. Or Swap for Dead Pool.
  7. My Fatboy PS3 got the YLOD, so I rushed out and got a 120g PS3 slim. I figured it was better deal than getting it fixed for $200. I was wondering if I could: * pull the 40g drive out of the fatboy * pull the 120g out of the slim * put 40g drive it in the Slim * backup the 40g drive to external HDD or USB flash * put the 120g drive back in the slim * restore I'm wanting to get all the save games back (MW, MW2, Oblivion & Red Dead Redemption) and the Download maps of MW & MW2. I'm getting pretty light on my reciever now the PS3 slim is bitstreaming. Happy about that. Thanks.
  8. Got the Pioneer BD burner. Ended up getting a more powerful 2nd hand PC. Upgrading the HD to 1TB, upping the memory to 4GB, upgrading the graphics card. Ended up running VGA out of my graphics card instead of the DVI because my monitor isn't HDCP compliant. PowerDVD 9.0 complained. Well at least it works. I just need it to burn some home movies. Just need a 1080p camcorder now. Burner seems OK, but I haven't burn't anything yet. Seems to play my "Top Gun" BD fine though.
  9. Had a look at the Paystation Store and its not up yet. Unless I missed something.
  10. What software comes with the retail version of BDR-205BK? Also what sort of media are people using? Need to burn some home movies.
  11. Had a close look at the disc. It said Disc 1 and the list of episodes. I'm chasing up Bigpond about the 2nd disc. I'll follow it on channel 7/72 as well, in case I can't get the 2nd disc.
  12. Does the Bluray have 2 disc? I watched the disc I got from Bigpond, and there is only half the episode. I'll have to chase up Bigpond. It's pretty graphic. I don't know if I want to own it, but I feel I need to watch it once.
  13. If you want to see some actual footage of War in the Pacific, have a look at "WWII in HD". It's on Bluray. I rented a copy from Bigpond. There must be 2 discs, for the disc I got finishes at Saipan and Normandy. I can't seem to find the 2nd disc on Bigpond. This is pretty graphic so be warned. This stuff is not special effects. History Channel "WWII in HD" SDL, the next couple of battles will show the horror of war. The episode last night was actually No 3, there were 2 episode on the 1st Wednesday. If you want to get an more indepth insight, the books the mini-series are based on is worth a look. I will definately be getting the Blurays when they come out.
  14. Trying to use the HBO site, but I think they are block IP address outside the US, for I'm have a bit of trouble watching some of the background video. I guess I'll have to wait for the Bluray to get all the extras.
  15. I've got my eye on a BD burner. Going to get a Panasonic FT2 when it comes out. It can do 720, so I'd want to burn my video to BD. Might put it on my Vista machine.
  16. Check out the HBO site. http://www.hbo.com Though it wont allow you to watch Episode 1 but it give a good background of the Guadalcanal.
  17. Just about finished the book. Will try to record it on the IQ2, but will also buy the BD. Off to the states in may. Damm. I hope this series does justice to all the sacrifices made.
  18. Picked up the companion book "The Pacific" @ Borders. I like to read the books too. The Pacific War was tough and bloody.
  19. When's the curling? If you're a sports fan $50 is well spent.
  20. A see a lot of kids using iPod touches used as portable game consoles. I got an 8gig touch for my youngest son - 12 yo. Lots of kids are using touches instead of Gameboys. With lot of games only $1.19 and lots for free. I don't know if the iPad will be that affordable, but at around $200 the 8gig iPod Touch is very popular.
  21. Subscribed today. The summer games should have been offered in a package like this. The PQ doesn't look HD in the loop. Hope it's better for real. If only the IQ2 had a bigger Hard Drive.
  22. I'm thinking about subscribing. My family is really into snow sking. It's all in HD isn't it. Channel 9 will swap and change around or replay the same event all the time. Wish the IQ2 has a bigger HD and can record more than just 2 channels.
  23. Can you trade for under $2? Do you do 20 trades a month? Can you trade in the week of the release? How about postage? Too much hassle.
  24. Just got back from Blockbuster. Tried to rent "Funny People" BD. Was told it was a mistake and the disc was out. Only about 3 copies on BD, where there was 20 copies on DVD. I got the DVD instead, but would have prefered BD. Also got a weekly "chick flick" BD for the wife. $3.90 for 2 discs. Noticed the BD offers. Mon-Thu 2 BD for $9.95, Fri-Sun 3 BD for $14.95 I hope with the increase price they stock more copies on BD. I hope Bigpond don't raise the prices of BD over DVDs. I rent about 20 odd BD a month at around $40-$50, through Blockbuster & Bigpond. I prefer to rent BD than to subscribe to Foxtel movie package. Foxtel charge $6 per movie. I prefer to watch 20 movies rather than own 1-2 movies that I probably only watch once.
  25. Been pretty happy with Blockbuster Cheap Tuesday. $2 is my sweet spot. Get 1 or 2 Overnight New Release and a couple weeklies. Still $6 isn't too bad, compared to taking the whole family to the cinema. Seen the movies we wanted to see this holidays. My Blockbuster has a pretty good range. Might check the other shops in the area, and see if their range has improved. Hiring PS3 games $15 for a week from Blockbuster works for me too. The kids can finish a game in a week. Better than forking out $100 per game.
