  1. Yeh I get your point. I'm actually getting excited about going and auditioning some of these setups. Is it really true that setups sound better over time after being worn in (like an acoustic guitar) or is this just a case of your ears getting used to the sound? I'm sure my ears wont be too discerning as this will be my first ever foray into surround sound. I've just been using the speaker on my tv until now. I really wanna get the stuff home and be like....wow...this was definately worth it! I've listened to music on really good headphones before and am hoping i can get a similar feeling of hearing all the nuances in the music and movies from my surround system. On another note, I love the dtv forums. The amount of information you can find and recieve in these forums is so helpful. And the amount of power it gives you at purchase is tremendous! We are empowered consumers! I remember when i was doing research on lcd tv's in these forums, i was able to walk into my local jb and harvey normans and tell them what they were going to do for me, rather than let them dictate the terms of the sale! I went into a harvey norman in brisbane and just mentioned the dtv forums and the sales guy automatically changed his tone and said he would match any group buy price they had going lol. Thanks again for all ur help and keep it coming if you have more to say!
  2. Thanks very much for ur input Bob. I will check this setup out aswell. 2750 sounds like a pretty sweet deal although maybe a liiiiiiitle out of my price range, ill definately check it out now. What reciever would you reccomend to go with this for no more than $1000 (after haggling of course, not rrp). I was keen on the onkyo 606 but after reading so many forums and stuff over the last couple of days, the yamaha range and the denon range have popped onto my radar. It's hard because everyone has a different opinion about this stuff. Basically, I want an avr that has great musicality but will also make games and movies sound awesome. I've heard that the onkyo's are best for gaming and movies but i've also heard there were some lip syncing proplems with some models. This is something i definately want to avoid hahaha! Gonna go check out your system at deephzaudio now. Pauly
  3. Yeh I'd love to know some places. Yeh the dollar drop is not so great now, when were in HK in july 1 aus was about 7 HK if i remember correctly. I assume this is very different now (1 aud in china was 6 and now it is 4.8rmb in china so i assume the drop would be fairly similar in HKD) Last time we were there we stayed in Mogkok which i hear might be the best place to check some of this stuff out? Right or wrong? Cheers everyone for being so helpful!
  4. My plane actually flys out of Hong Kong on the 7th so i will be there for a couple of days actually. I'm worried about the difference in voltage and shipping though? Has anyone ever bought from hong kong here before?
  5. Righto. I'm in China atm but ill be home by early Feb so I'll ava ganza at these three: Ikons Kefs Aarons You've got me really interested in the Kefs, i'll definately seek them out first. The girlfriend likes the style and size of em too so thats a bonus! Cheers fellas if u have any more suggestions I'd love to hear em. What do you all think of the onkyo 606's...seems like a pretty safe bet to me, no?
  6. Hi, I've had a look at these. Maybe i'm being a noob but they just look so small for $2000! Can they hack it? Can they make the hd audio shine. Will my mates say, holy **** dude, state of origin at ur house this year?
  7. Hey everyone, I know this question gets asked to no end and I was going to try and avoid asking but man, after a week or two of research I am in struggletown!!!!! I have a bravia x series 40 inch (3100 model), a ps3 (connected to my tv but also streams stuff from my pc through tversity) and thats about it. I'm gonna buy a pvr or play tv soon but thats another story. Thing is, I think im gonna go ahead and buy the onkyo 606 reciever because i am so keen so hear some hd audio (blu ray movies, CALL OF DUTY 4, killzone 2 etc) Also, my girlfriend wants to be able to easily plu in her ipod touch when she gets home from work and become immersed in the music. So here's the thing. I just don't know what speakers to buy. I know everyone will say 'just go and listen and decide for yourself'. But i need a bit more direction because I'm just sales bait when im in electronic stores! I have about 2000-2500 to spend (not including the reciever in this, thats another budget) and I want some speakers that will blow me away (sound quality wise, not volume wise!). I really want to get the full effect of the hd audie like PCM and Truehd etc and it would be nice if they were THX certified but it's not totally necessary. Basically I was hoping some people could spit out some model numbers, not just brands, of some speakers for me to take to my local jb or something. I can deal with just getting two floorstanders, a center and a quality sub woofer but if people can find me a quality 5.1 or 7.1 speaker series for this price I'd greatly appreciate it. I've heard that, if you don't get the right speakers, it's hard to hear the difference between hd audie and dts or whatever so I don't wanna screw up this purchase. Man, buying the tv was so much easier. The room size is small/medium and it's quite open (no walls between living room, dining room and kitchen). Our house is pretty small though (an old 2 bedroom queenslander). If you guys could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Pauly Goldston Brisbane
  8. I can't wait for play tv. I dont have a pvr yet cuz im waiting for it to come out. hopefully it is before july/august so I can watch the rugby leauge grand final/world cup final on my psp while I am over in China. Some company at CES just announce a 2.5" 500 gig internal hard drive. I also hope i can get this before I go overseas and pop it into my ps3. Twin hd tuners and dual recoding is so damn cool. My ps3 just keeps getting better and better. Currently using Tversity and streaming all my stuff from my pc over to the ps3....that is another huge feature for me. I just hope Aus has a proper EPG by the time all of this happens. Apparantly its allo gonna be ready and set up for the Olympics.

  10. Hey all, i got the bravia x3100 from the group buy and am loving it. It is an amazing telly. Also, i have been playing most days on my ps3 on the tv...very cool. I downloaded the heavenly sword demo and the uncharted hd trailer...and i noticed that in some scenes the screen is a little jittery and laggy. I was wondering if this would be a framerate issue, a ps3 issue of a tv issue? Also, is there any settings for the bravia that might help to reduce these little annoyances? Its hard to appreciate uncharted's beautiful scenery when it is so jittery. could it be an mp4 encoding issue? i have motionflow turned off for the ps3. turned it on and didnt notice too much difference. Perhaps it is a panning issue. Pauly
  11. havnt had a chance to try (uni is a ####storm at the moment) but i assume that taking it off full pixle mode will work . Thanks for the help Trigg
  12. Hey thanks a bunch for the help. Also, it was storming outside...i love watching twister during a storm in the comfort of my home...its cosy lol. Also you get natural surround sound!
  13. Hey thanx a bunch for that guys. Yeh I have noticed all the games i get from EA are buggy or have poor framerates. They still make pretty good games tho so i cant complain. Just wished they'd release finished versions rather than what seems to be beta versions. most other game companies like insomniac are nailing it...they have no excuse. Anyway thanks for the help, the reboot and ejection sorted it out. But i had mates over who have 360's with the same game and they persisted to mock my purchase of a 'playstation 2 1/2' cuz i always spout about how good the ps3 'is going to be' lol. Kinda put me in my place when my version looked like it did when theirs was running smoothly.
  14. Hey, is anyone else having problems/ glitches in their crowd/environments in fifa 08 on the ps3? last night i had some friends over and in every game we play the crowd was just a big black glitch/noise. Its like the game hadnt decided if there were going to be people watching the game or not. It was really crap and distracting. Has anyone else had this problem?
  15. Heya, I was watching twister last night on my ps3 (dvd upscaled to 1080p in full picture mode). halfway trhough the movie i notice a green vertical line on the very left of the screen. Is this a problem with my ps3 settings? the dvd? or the tv? The green line isnt there when im playing games or watching telly so i assume its either the dvd or the upscaling? has anyone else had a similar problem?
  16. Yeh see that is the one thing i concede was cool about the wii. My gf and I actually played and had fun together with it and we were on roughly the same level of ability in the games. The only thing is i reckon the skill factor goes out the window a bit. i would have loved to try out mario kart tho....im a big fan. If i had a bit more money i would have kept the wii, just for the sake of my gf...who was a bit upset that i sold it....but i needed the cash to buy the ps3. I really like the comment about nintendo is trying to make it into the boardgames of today - i think that sums it up brilliant-wii....LOL. Anyway, congrats to those who are happy with their wii's, im not suggesting anyone should not buy one or sell their own...just saying how the story unfolded at my house
  17. Hey all, I dont get all the wii hype. I had a wii on launch and i was initially very excited about it. Had all my mates around and wii had fun with it...but really....after a while it just gathered dust. The online was pretty rubbish and the updates were negliable...they just didnt seem to try to make the console all that much better....i mean, everybody votes is a joke. I had about 10 games and i got sick of them all pretty quick...they were just so ...i dont know....last gen or something...they didnt impress me. I ended up just playing gamecube games on it. I dont understand...why hasnt the gimmick worn off yet...i reckon the games and controls are too childish, easy and ....kinda lame. I mean, u can play any game with a flick of the wrist...often getting better results than using your whole arm/body. Maybe if they made the controllers blue tooth with the accelorometer, thn people wouldnt have to try and keep the cursor on the screen at all times. I ended up selling my package for 800 and picking up a ps3....which i am extremely happy with. Im finally getting the hd next gen gaming experience... I dont know, maybe the market of girls and kids are whats keeping it alive...my gf loved the wii cuz she could finally play with me... Maybe im just a traditional gamer....but i really think the wii ate balls just quietly. Anyone agree/disagree? p.s i dont have a 360 but im not a ps3 fanboy...i think the 360's are friggin awesome aswell.
  18. Hi everyone, ive been looking round the net for a while now but i havnt found any solid data explaining how much download quota on average a few hours of online gaming takes up. Im currently running a ps3 a couple hours every couple of nights but we only get 15 gigs quota per month and adsl 1 (1.5 mb). Its kinda restrictive. why cant australia be like the US and England and sell cheap unlimited super fast broadband (ADSL2 speeds)? Those guys dont have to worry about quota.... we on the other hand are running out with about 10 days to go - getting throttled to 64k while ur at uni is pretty annoying. thinking about going to internode adsl2+ 30 gig package....but i reckon this will still be hard to stick to with the higher speeds amongst 4 ppl. anyway...yeh so whats the verdict, how much quota does online gaming take up for everyone per month....im guessing its about 500 mb for a couple hours?
  19. Heya, i bought fifa 08 yesterday for the ps3. Had some mates come around and play 4 player against eachother. Its awesome. we are all fairly casual gamers so i wasnt keen for something as complicated as pes. Anyway we had an awesome time. It is so much harder to score but when you do, it feels so much better. Cuz i only had 4 controls only 4 could play at once, but even the guys watching were getting into it as if it were a real game on the telly. Excellent game...now i just need to figure out all the controls...theres so many lol. Also, i bought it from eb and got $25 off my next ea 08 purchase. am considering either rugby 08 or tiger woods 08. Hey one more thing...i tried to trade in some different region games to eb and they wouldnt accept them, claiming that aussie ps3's can only play pal games. But ive played them all with no probs on my ps3. I thought all ps3 games are region free..shouldnt the eb people know this?
  20. Warhawk is awesome! I love the fact that i can just be playing online and my roomates can walk by and decide they want in on th action. They just press the ps button and they're off. Im not v good at the game yet but i still love it and could play it for days if my gf would let me lol. She even jumps in for a quick kill every now and then. All looks sweet on the new bravia 40x3100 from the dtv group buy. Im also loving resistance single player. I know im a bit late but i only just got my ps3 and am making up for lost gaming hours lol.
  21. Hiya, Got my bravia from the dtv group buy and used these calibrations settings from the avs forum thread: CUSTOM Backlight: 4 Picture: 68 Brightness: 53 Color: 51 Hue: 0 Temp: Neutral Sharpness: 55 Noise Reduc: Low Black Corrector: Off Advanced CE: Medium Gamma: Low Clear White: Off Color Space: Standard Live Color: Off WHITE BALANCE: Red Gain: -3 Green Gain: -5 Blue Gain: 0 Red Bias: -2 Green Bias: -1 Blue Bias: 0 Detail Enhancer: Low Edge Enhancer: High Motion Enhancer: Standard They have been working awesome for me. Except for ps3 i put the black enhancer to medium. Also, for sports i pump up the motion enhancer to high and turn off cinemotion completely. Tell me what ya think. Pauly
  22. Heya all, just wanted to give a quick update.... The AFL grand final looked absolutly frigging AMAZING on my new bravia 40x3100 from this group buy. Even better than my daddy-o's samsung plasma. If you're still in doubt over motion and stuff like that, have no fear....this tv is the best you will get! Pauly
