  1. Good to get the consensus, I'll set it all up through the AVR. Cheers
  2. Yes, I guess that's what I was implying and that would make one reason to put the xbox direct to the AVR. I was curious to see whether people actually do put everything through their AVR (given how many inputs they have), my main concern is picture quality, it's a good tv and it's a good amp so would I loose anything by running both Foxtel and Xbox through my amp?
  3. This way i can use my AVR to decode sound into surround sound if i want from my TV. The PS3 has some excellent 5.1/7.1 tracks for gaming so needs to go through my AVR (wouldne xbox be same?) .And the Wife just finds it easier if the TV station/inputs don't have to change Xbox can be pretty good in 5.1 I have HDMI 1.4 so I believe the TV can pass this back to the AVR. Pleasing the wife with only having to choose one input on the TV is a plus but then if the AVR is off and it uses bypass, it uses the last function i.e. blu ray/cd etc.
  4. Hi All, Looking for opinions and reasons as to what and why you have connected to your AVR. I have a Marantz SR6005 and up until now I've kept the config fairly simple. Blu Ray to AVR - TV - ARC all via HDMI. Now I could connect the Xbox and the Foxtel IQ2 through the amp too, in fact I have tried the Xbox and ended up putting it back straight to the TV. So who would recommend that I connect everything through the Marantz? TV is a Panasonic plasma, 7months old. Cheers
  5. I would have thought the tax would be based on the actual invoiced cost of the item? Anyway mine was just over 1k including shipping but I'm sure the value on the docket was item cost so no tax to pay. Also the AR6005 looks like it has come down in price so would be well under 1k including shipping....it's a no brainer really. Mine also arrived in a couple of days.

  7. http://www.hivizone.com/local-shop/av_amp.htm Only pay tax if the item is over 1k AUS. There are plenty of threads for buying overseas so just do a quick search. Good luck
  8. I had a look at both of these units and ended up buying the Marantz, to me it sounded better musically but I see movies is the important thing for you. If you've demo'd them have you noticed a difference? I can't complain about any aspect of the marantz (well maybe the lack of networking). A lot of people have mentioned that the new 3 series is really the old 2 series in terms of quality same with the new 2 series being the old 1 series with the Denon. Also worth considering buying abroad, you can get the Marantz delivered for 1k. Happy shopping
  9. If there are only two pins on the av, changing the cable for a standard IEC cable with 3 pins wouldn't provide an extra earth....or would it? Edit. Just found this: Q.Can I use a C13 IEC Power Cord even though my device uses a C17 2 prong cord now? A.Yes absolutely. The only difference is that the 3 prong (the ground) will not be connected.
  10. Yep thats the one, so the missing earth pin isn't an issue? I've looked into the power cord forum and not all of them might appreciate my willingness just to use a standard power cable from work
  11. This might be better of in the Power cord forum but thought I might post here first. Got my Marantz 6005 from Hong Kong and it has a 2 pin power cord, I'm not talking about the plug part but the end that connects into the back of the AV. Normally I'd just replace it with a standed power cord but these are 3 pin. Anybody know what or where I can buy a suitable cord? Having to use the original one with an adapter is proving to be an issue. Cheers
  12. Been thinkng that too, will probably still wait till in the UK to pick one up and then orry about how to get it home Cheers
  13. $245SGD to ship the speaker! it's only 7kg. Think I'll wait till I'm in the UK and pick one up.
  14. Looks like the 3 shelf stand is the better fit for my gear, got the green light. This works on two fronts as it means I don't need to rush to replace the front but for tonal quality I will still look at the MA 40 and maybe pick one up when back in the UK in August for much less money. Thanks all for the input.
  15. I like the stand option, that would be a very simple solution. Nice setup too, some heavy duty equipment
  16. So how much work was involved in a) fitting it to the wall hiding the cables either by some sort of conduit or channeling out a runner in the wall? If I have a rough idea of costs it could give me another angle to work on. Thanks
  17. Ok, thanks all. I know it's got to get higher, I was using a table in front of the tv to raise it higher. That particular speaker won't fit on the next shelf up, hence the possible purchase on the MA Apex 4 which will (just). As for wall mounting the panel not sure I'd get away with that, the place has only recently been renovated, the cables would be the big issue. With the MA I could probably have it on top of the unit in front of the tv, just got to find a new home for the foxtel box, the MA would also allow for me to move the CD and BluRay down to the bottom shelf so I could have a centre that it is actually central!
  18. Ok, Pics are up:http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=94243
  19. As per my post pics attached: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=94235
  20. I guess I'm just concerned about how much of an injustice I would be doing to the speaker by cramming it into an area without much space above. I'll see if I can get a pic tonight and post, have to do it before the wife comes home or sh'll think I've gone mad Cheers
  21. I'm looking to replace my Wharfdale centre, it's long overdue as I have MA RS6 fronts. I'm looking at the MA Apex 40 and Radius 225HD. My issue is that it will have to sit on a shelf below the TV hence why I'm looking at slimline options. The Apex 40 is 140mm and I have about 143mm. I'm concious that the speaker has feet too. The Radius 225HD is 125mm so would have a bittle bit more head room. Given it's going to be on a shelf and the MA Apex 40 is 1k and the 225HD is $600 is it worth th extra? I have listened to both and the Apex had much more detail and depth than the 225HD. I used to place my centre on a table in front of the AV unit but haven't done this for a while. Thoughts please.
  22. I'll answer my own question, after erasing the ipod and starting again it all work fine.
  23. Got a reply and the MA is $330 cheaper in Singapore but I would have to arrange shipping. Anyone any have any experience/knowledge of shipping from Singapore? Cheers
  24. Have looked at the UK, certainly a lot cheaper for the 225 and the Apex is around 440 pounds but shipping could be pricey, hoping someone could shed some light on it? I could be patient and bring one back with me in August but I'm unlikely to wait that long. Enjoy all those boxes!
