  1. hi there just a question, if i connect another balun to my antenna, to run another cable off it will there be any signal loss (eg is it still going to split the signal? ) if that is the case is it better than spliting the first cable. cheers

  2. Can you report your findings if you do.

A 7100 user who uses the Wireless dongle for example plugged into the rear USB port with or without an extension lead, currently has to use the front USB port to plug in an external HDD. If the 2nd back USB socket (currently hidden on 7100 models by the back panel metalwork between the USB cut-out and the Network socket cut-out) can also be used in addition to the other one it would be neater than using the front socket.

i have just tried to connect my ehd to the other usb port but i didn't power up the ehd, so it dosn't work.

  3. so far so good but early days have had it back for 3 days no loss of services with the 7100 motherboard in it. it uses the 7100 firmware. it came back with the latest firmware loaded. had to cut out the back panel to reveal the network port. have set up the network and all works. there also seems to be another usb port above the other one but haven't tried it to see if it works.

  4. Interesting. My Toppy 7000 went there for this issue on Monday.

Maybe they have found a "cheaper" fix for our Toppy's than a full 7100 replacement as one member has received. BUT.....how do they get around the extra Lan port on the back and the extra USB port on the front????? Perhaps they will cut a hole in the back and replace the front panel?

    Please keep us informed jason.

    Regards

he told me that the network port won't be usable all the other features will be, software will be 7100 so to update the firmware you will need 7100 firmware, 1tb external hdd should be supported as well. fingers crossed it will fix the problem, when i get it back.

  5. hi all i have sent my 7000 to topfield to try and fix the loss of services issue. today i rang them to see how it was going i spoke to freddy and he said it would take some time to replace the motherboard as they were out of stock, so with my approval they are going to put a 7100 motherboard in it. it may just fix the issue, only time will tell.

  6. OK, I need to go away for a couple of days. I'll resume the battle when I return. I've also written to Topfield as well to see if they have any suggestions. Based on previous experience with Topfield, I'm not holding my breath but I might get lucky.

hi there i was able to get my 1tb drive to work but you need to know someone with a 7100 so that they can format you drive for you. once formatted plug into 7000, and like magic it works . sorry this may not help you.

  7. Record a few minutes of something you don't want (ads or something) give it a name and then try to move it to the Ext. That (if it works) will createa folder that you can see on the Ext. Then see if you can copy it back (two pushes on the yellow button) to the HDD in the PVR. I think the big problem is, it's doing what we want but not telling us that it's working. (If that makes sense)

yeh that is ok as long as it is in fat32 format but the pvr won't format it in ext2 format ,for me anyway. the pvr finds the external hard drive , in fat32 format , i can copy a file to it but it won't play it.

  8. Well, I reconnected it to the PC, and in both My Computer and Control Panel/IFSDrives it says 999.958 GB FAT32.

When I formatted it I used the run command: fat32format E, did I format it the wrong way?

i am having the same problems as miata. it seems the topfield doesn't format the external hard drive because it doesn't show that it is formated to ext2 when connected to the computer. after the topfield says that it has formatted i have put it on the pc and the file fomat is RAW not ext2. help?

  9. hi how long should it take for the topfield to format a 1tb external hard drive? because i am having the same problem , it takes less than a minuite to format and says it is ok but then it says can't connect to external hard drive. i will try to do it a few times as in the post above.

it seems to format it ok , have done this 4 times, but still says can't connect to external hard drive. is it because it is a 1tb drive? i have a 1tb WD My Book essentials hard drive.

  10. Will the Toppy format a drive with no partitions, does it really need a FAT32 partition on it before the Toppy will format it?

    Miata, try either:

    1. not a quick format for FAT32... this still won't take all that long as it will only be 32G it is formatting

    or

    2. Right click "My Computer", choose "manage", go down to "Disk Management", find the drive you have connected, and delete the NTFS partition it has. Make it so it says "unassigned" and then disconnect from your PC, connect to the Toppy while it is in standby, power up the Toppy, and see if it offers to fomat it, or go to the setup/whatever menu and format it.

  11. sorry just caught up with this post. I have a 5001 and I assume the 6001 has a similar menu system.

If you go to menu -> setup -> program edit

Then a table of available channels appears, in my case there are 26 of them. You can scroll around the table using the direction keys on your remote and for each channel use the yellow button on the remote to block the channel or the blue one to make the remote skip over it in normal use. I find the skip option gives me the result I need.

However as you point out you can't actually remove a channel as such. But if all you want to do is, in normal operation, to have a minimal number of channels without multiple instances of, 7 9 10 and the rest, then I find the above procedure is just fine.

So, when I switch on my TV now I get ABC sd, ABC hd (because the news is only on sd), ABC2, 7 sd and 7 hd (because in Brisbane they spend much of the day showing the loop on hd), 9hd, 10hd, sbs sd (I don't watch the foreign news, sbs radio and the hd channel is fuzzy and useless). I have removed the programming guides which I never use - the 'now and next' button on the remote is all i need. I have also removed the digital radio channels. If I need to listen to cool jazz I can play sim city on my computer

Just as a hint, for the sd versions, forget about channel 2 and channel 7, but instead go for 22 and 71 - your sequence will 'flow' better on the remote.

    Hope this helps

    thanks for the tip

  12. Jason read right through it seems the 9500 is not up to the standard of prevoius Hitachi panels. IMO the panasonic is a better set PQ wise, but between the 8900 and panasonics there doesnt seem to be anything.

i have checked the specs there dosen't seem to be to much different between the 9500 and the 9800 or am i missing something?

  13. Just a quick update. After extensive viewing of both HDTV and DVD's (particularly Lost Season 1) over the past few days, I can say that the luminance bounce has all but disappeared after making the service menu changes. For those who are noticing it, I suggest to make the changes. You'll be wrapped with the result!

has anyone got opinions on the 9500
