  1. I think in my case, it's a hold-over from the good ole' days of "QUICK! BUY IT NOW! IT'S CHEAP! WOO! YAY FOR HD-DVD FIRE SALES!" that's made me like this
  2. It's not got PiP, which the Acer did, but tbh I never used it on my old screen anyway. I'm still happy enough with the TECO - don't want to get nasty with Acer particularly, seeing as they've essentially given me a free TV. Sounds like I'll be sticking with it. Thanks for everyones' advice!
  3. No worries - thanks for the advice; I figured that'd be the case. The Acer's warranty expired in August/September, but they told me specifically on the phone (when sorting out the replacement) that it'd come with a new, full 3-year warranty. I've not had a chance to look at or file the the warranty paperwork that came with it yet, though.
  4. I've recently had my beloved Acer TV replaced by Acer as the panel wasn't repairable (detailed here, starting from about halfway down: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=80537). The TV set I got in return thanks to a warranty replacement was a TECO TA42N1PR. The thing is...it's really not as good as the Acer panel it's replacing. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and no matter how much I play with the contrast/brightness levels, I'm struggling to get a good image out of it - it always looks washed out, 1080p signals look somewhat blurred, and the viewing angles aren't good. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and if there's anything I can do about this? (and if not, that's cool too - I mean, I was happy that they helped me out so close to the end of the warranty period, and the new screen is bigger, with has a full 3yr warranty etc too.)
  5. I can vouch for PCX. Bought some cases from them a few weeks ago, they arrived safe and sound.
  6. Anyone got any comments/opinions on the differences between the S6 and S7 panels (normal LCD, not the new LED ones), specifically with regards to aspects like PQ and viewing angles? I'm looking at getting a 40" or 46" panel, but after ringing around for prices this morning, it seems that the Series 7's have been discontinued... Is it worth going to the trouble of tracking down a S7 for a few hundred more, or would people just recommend the series 6? It's all very confusing!
  7. Sorry, posted in wrong topic... (though, feel free to check the Samsung differences thread to answer my question! )
  8. Well...it's not too bad. I've hooked up my HTPC to it and bumped up the res to 1920x1080, but it doesn't look like it's displaying at a native res (slightly 'blurred'), and there's no 1:1 pixel mapping. :'( No PiP either, which my Acer had, but I never used it anyway.
  9. It's apparently just arrived at home. But not a Sammy. It's a TECO TA42N1PR (Official Site). I think it's equivalent specs to the Acer, but I've never heard of the brand. Anyone else got any experiences with TECO? I'll report more later when I've had a chance to play with it.
  10. Yep, I contacted them a couple of weeks ago, they said they'd look into it. I got a call later that day saying the panel was stuffed, the TV would need to be replaced since Acer don't make TVs anymore (replacement will have same specs, same size if not slightly bigger), and I am currently waiting for the replacement to arrive!
  11. Is there a significance difference in PQ between the different panels?
  12. That's the same as me - dark smears on the righthand side, especially annoying when using my media centre PC. I'm still awaiting to hear what they'll do - it was collected a few weeks ago and shipped off to Sydney, now it's "currently awaiting spare parts". In terms of how I contacted them, I lodged a service request online.
  13. Interesting...I'm wondering what's actually the cause of the problem with mine. Acer's had it for 2 weeks or so now, I emailed them yesterday for updates and got told "Your Television is in our Repair Centre currently awaiting spare parts."
  14. Thanks for that - I might use my original box then. Yeah, my Acer's served me very well too - I've only contacted the customer service lately cause it's developing vertical banding and dark smears on the right-hand side of the screen that are getting darker and harder to ignore. Pity, it's been a great unit otherwise.
  15. Where did you get a box to send the TV to Acer? I'm about to send my Acer AT3705 into Acer for warranty repairs, but the instructions they sent me say specifically that it can't be the original packaging. But I've got no idea where to get another box of similar size to pack it in...
  16. Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm in Perth, but haven't had a chance to check out Myer yet, so will have a look there next I think. As a side-note, does anyone know why Rick Hart don't stock Sammys?
  17. Haha cool, thanks for the advice mate. Umm...any general advice on what I should be asking? Do I just find a random salesperson in the area and ask how low they can go? I'm kind of new to all of this...
  18. Just out of interest, where should I be looking for a B650 46" for $2500-ish? That's the TV I'm currently looking at, but haven't seen it that cheap yet...
  19. Are there any major differences between the A and B models?
  20. Wait..what? There's a Harvey Norman Seconds store?? Where is it in OP?
  21. Thanks for posting some WA prices. Mind if I ask which Harves that was?
  22. I'd been contemplating the same thing - LED vs LCD - and this thread seems to have answered that once and for all. Thanks!
  23. What's the difference between the "A" and "B" series, out of interest?
  24. Hmm..okay then. I might investigate slightly larger options then. Thanks for the advice! If I were to look at either 42" or 46" screens, are Panasonics and Samsungs still reliable potential choices?
  25. Thanks for the advice so far - sounds like Samsung and Panasonic are definitely options to look at. Will check out the Sony range as well. The reason I'm still looking at a 37" is that it's a fairly small room (probably bedroom-sized, now that I think about it), and I'm not seated that far away from the screen, about 2 meters away, maybe a bit under. So I have a feeling, as tempting as the larger screens are, anything bigger and I'll be craning my neck around just to look at it. I'll probably ultimately end up with a 40", because it's a bit larger than the current one, but not too big. And you're right about the huge speakers on the Acer. I took them off a couple of months ago, and every time I walked past the screen for a week, I was surprised at how small it now looked...
