  1. Butters man, if you can afford a cockpit an G25 surely you could afford GT5:P, At least hire it and give it a go. I promise you will change your mind. At the very least you get to try out the clutch and H shifter. For me the G25 works wonders in F1:CE. I lap at about the same speed as a controller but i'm way more consistant. GT5:P on the other hand is the PS3 game that your wheel wants to play with. Professional physics, TC off, ABS off where appropriate ---> and the car is pretty much uncontrolable with the controller . Well at least you can't lap anywhere near as fast. I lap about a 2 seconds faster with the wheel and again way more consistantly for this game. I guess it just not for everyone... ...and for the record yes Dirt sucks balls with the wheel. The physics engine is terrible in that game, CMR05 was so much better. Oh yeah, Vegemite pwns Peanutbutter.
  2. IGN (10 out of 10 for both versions) QUOTE Past GTA titles have had mild-to-serious framerate issues and technical glitches, because the games were trying to do far more than the PlayStation 2 could handle. While GTA IV is pushing the PS3 and 360 to the limit, it also runs amazingly well. Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected. That a game with great AI, an awesome physics engine and a detailed open world runs so well and with such short load times is a technical marvel. For that, I can forgive framerate issues and some noticeable aliasing. The art team gets major kudos for creating a living world. There is great texture work in the environments, a nice field-of-vision blur of buildings in the distance, some excellently modeled cars, ball-jarring explosions, phenomenal water effects and one interesting-looking Eastern Euro for a lead character. Sure, it's not a game that runs perfectly all the time, but the technical elements almost never get in the way of the gameplay. For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud. EGM (Print): QUOTE Grand Theft Auto IV - A+, A+, A Good: World, relationships, story Bad: Some missions canned, control takes getting used to PS3 or 360 version: 360 for DLC, PS3 version looks slightly more vibrant and sharp 1up.com (A+) QUOTE None of these little flaws take away from Liberty City's breathtaking vistas, incredibly varied scenery, and lived-in look (the PS3 version has the slightest visual edge, plus motion-control support -- but then it's missing Achievements and the eventual downloadable episodes exclusive to the 360 game). The city just feels alive. GamesRadar QUOTE While the PS3 and 360 versions of the game are functionally identical, the PS3's visuals sport noticeably smoother edges, along with a warmer color palette that makes everything look slightly more realistic. If you're looking to compare Accomplishments with your Achievement-hoarding friends, though, forget it - GTA IV ignores these half-assed consolation prizes altogether. PS3 owners also have to put up with a nearly eight-minute installation the first time they start the game, which puts the normally slower Blu-ray load times on par with the Xbox 360 version. (That is, unless it's running on a 360 with no hard drive, which we're told will face much longer loads.) GameTrailers.com (9.8) While GT usually puts up head-to-head videos, the official video review is only for the 360 version. They have yet to play the PS3 version. They do mention a few techical hitches here and there (with framerate), but since they can't compare it to the PS3 version, there's no way of knowing if that's for both versions in this case. Game Reactor (Sweden) While I don't understand the language, here's what Forsete says it translates to (and if anyone can confirm this, that'd be awesome): QUOTE Originally Posted by Forsete: Swedish Gamereactor mentioned in their 10/10 review that they were pretty surprised regarding the difference between the PS3 and 360-versions. The PS3-version features better colours, contrast, load times and what looks to be better resolution textures. The game also looks sharper and has a more stable fps. Gamespy UK QUOTE Although it's got a few problems that pop up from time to time, Grand Theft Auto IV is still an absolutely gorgeous game. Like the previous games in the series, it suffers from some texture pop-in and draw distance issues, although these should in no way affect your enjoyment of the game. It's easy to just consider those technical flaws the price you've got to pay for admission to the most impressive game world ever created. There's so much going on that you'll only really notice the flaws if you look for them, and if you're doing that there's a good chance you're missing out on something spectacular. The overall art design and visual aesthetics are extremely pleasing to the eye, and they aren't hurt by the technical issues. For those who have to decide between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, we should mention that these flaws are slightly less noticeable in the PS3 game. There are a few other minor differences as well, the biggest being the PS3 game's Sixaxis controls. You can use the controller's tilt feature to perform wheelies on motorbikes or control your helicopter, but it just ends up feeling forced. You're much better off just turning them off and sticking with the default control scheme. The Xbox 360 version, on the other hand, has Achievements and features a more intuitive controller (though that may just be this reviewer's personal opinion). Both versions are excellent, so you really can't go wrong.
  3. Not to mention contradicting the other 10 or so reviews released so far...
  4. The word on the street is that NZ gets the Aus 'gimped' version anyway... I have no source, just read people speculating on various forums. Some people imported GTA:SA-NZ for PS2 and it turned out to be the same censored AUS version
  5. The Japanese have already started to get Top Gear eps. I think we are waiting for the US to get the game before Top Gear is available for us. In the meantime their is 3 new vids out. Lancer EvoX, GTR part1 and part2. They are excellent mini docos. Anyone completed the game yet? I have 40 gold trophys You don't unlock anything extra though Saving for the F2007 now... it takes a looong time. Can't wait for the next update, bring on the damage
  6. I hate you Happs!!! GRRRRRR All the shops I visited today denied me!! Oh well, tomorrow will be a hell of a good day! Who would have thought an extended demo could be so exciting? I hope I can sleep tonight now that I'm so excited
  7. I feel sorry for you... I read the reviews and didn't bother even looking into it. Hopefully everyone takes your advice. Also another one to ignore is the new Conflict game. The exact same can be said about that. Damn half assed devs
  8. +1 I'd love an option to just search for Aussie hosted games. At this point IW fails misserably
  9. +1 I have my doubts but i'll keep my fingers crossed. I guess if it happens it will be over a year away, but will they then paste a R rating on all the games that havn't even got into the country? Meh... Importing FTW!! Dark Sector looks interesting. Good point MC DUI. It is very inconsistant, Conan being a very good example of this.
  10. People who say that there are no games on Ps3 are just Fanboys of other consoles. There are at least 20 games that are great and worth owning IMO. This blockbuster hype is crap, people rate games differently. What works for some dosn't work for others. The reason that some of the multiplats last year ran better on the X-box was because the 360 was the lead development platform. They were rushed onto the ps3 when the developers realised that the Ps3 sales are steadily climbing and they can make more money by rushing out a ps3 version ASAP. Some look better and play better on the ps3. It all comes down to hardware optimisation and whether devs are willing to put in the time. Its no secret that at this time the Ps3 is harder and takes longer to develop games for. Developers are only just learning how to optimise performance of games properly for the platform. The Ps2 was also hard to develop for in the begining untill developers discovered tricks to make programing more effecient. This year the Ps3 has a HUGE amount of promising exclusives and established big franchises making the next-gen debut. In my opinion it has far more promising games than 360. Ps3 has less games because the 360 has been out for a year more than it. Online gaming on the Ps3 is excellent and is only going to get better with more and more features soon to come out. For me, the combination of PC and Ps3 works wonders. Most games I want to play on the 360 are comming out on PC soon.
  11. I'd read up on game reviews so you have an idea on what certain games are about. Gamespot and IGN are a good source of proffesional reviews. The thing is everyone has their own taste in games like music and movies. The best thing to do would be hire games that you are interested in from your local video shop. Make sure you have plenty of time to put a good few hours into them, so then you know if a game is up your alley and whether or not its worth the cash.
  12. Most arrogant poster on this board award goes to you. Congratulations!!
  13. Good luck to them. It's sure not going to slow the Ps3 sales down...
  14. Only Noobs crash anyway... I'll take more advanced handling physics over damage anyday. I think its a possibility for GT6. Polyphony has said that they don't want to implement it untill they can create as real as possible damage physics. Using crash test data etc. I think the biggest delay for the full game is getting the online component to perfection. I can't wait to see how good I am compared to the rest of the world.
  15. Thats because Real car damage physics can't be achieved in this day and age. You think Forza is realistic or something?
  16. What a suprising turn of events... I still would be really worried about receiving the game. This is why I prefer to buy from a trusted ebay "Powerseller".
  17. I just got it, having a blast! I like your ideas alot especially the 1st one. Just got my A licence, the game sure has stepped it up a notch as far as difficulty goes. Marked man is just BRUTAL!! Online is fun, although disturbing when I took some little bastard down and the mug shot involved him exposing himself. I would of reported him, but It was really late and I was too lazy Kiddies BEWARE!!
  18. It comes out this Thursday apparently! First day purchase material right there!!!
  19. HD-DVD will be virtually dead by the end of this year. You are delusional if you think otherwise
  20. Some people are saying that the online is broken. It takes too long to get a race and there is performance issues. Maybe this is just a result of a poor connection and connecting to Japanese servers. No doubt it will be fixed for the full game, polyphonys attention to detail is fantastic. They would never ship the full game unless the online is flawless. Any more than $50 is a rip off though even considering it is a huge demo. I'd still pay what ever it costs though because I am in love with GT
  21. It is a shame that the Sixaxis wasn't originaly equiped with rumble but its not like Sony did it to rip off their customers, there was a lot of politics involved. Either way, i'm quite happy to buy another controller as I will have a spare and a 2nd for the few 2 player games that come out these days. I thought the weight of the original would bother me too but after a few days I didn't notice the difference. I'm actually a big fan of the new L2 and R2 trigger buttons as it provides a lot more subtle analog for some types of games, hate using it to shoot though. R1 and L1 work far better IMO. I think the layout is far better than the 360 controller because of the Analog stick placement that sits in the natural position for your thumbs and I have big hands too. Why anyone thinks the non symetrical placement of the 360 sticks is better is beyond me. The directional buttons and anolog buttons are also much better in quality and placement IMO. Why people keep saying the Ps3 analog is less arcurate than the 360 is also beyond me. The Ps3 has more room for movement and uses 10 bit analog while the 360 only uses 8 bit. Many people must not like to tinker with the sensitivity, like I always do untill it is perfect for me. Alot of it comes down to game developers and their controller programming. Why most games don't let you change the deadzone of the analog is dissapointing but hopefully will be more common in the future. The fact that Playstation has been using the same shape in their controllers for 10+ years is proof that they have all but perfected it for the time being (As far as the majority are concerned), Millions agree with me. Sony were threatened with a boycott from PS fans all over the world when there were talks of a change in shape and a rather awefull looking prototype. It all comes down to personal preference though, but it is a myth that if you have big hands the PS controller won't be comfortable to you. I hear this far too often.
  22. Fact: The white DS3 looks horrible! J/K I did hear it got dirty easy though. It just dosn't match the console! So whats the vibration like? I heard a few games don't have very strong vibration, but others have a ps2 level of feedback. Hopefully Aus will get a decent deal soon. They need to knock off another $100 with maybe 2 launch title games, that will help sales a lot IMO.
  23. I'm not sure if this story is true but it sounds plausible. It sounds like EB are just trying to Blackmail MS to me. I'm no expert on the law but I think MS should be sorting out this issue its not like their pockets arn't deep enough, but maybe it is EBs fault. I sure don't know. All I can see from an article like this is more bad publicity for MS and the 360 which one would think, they are trying to avoid at the moment. Did anyone catch this TT story? I missed it. I would have bought a 360 last year if it wasn't for the RROD and other malfunctions but now I have a Ps3 and there is no looking back for me. Reliabilty and peace of mind is priceless.
  24. True! That fact and the 7 day return policy is the only thing that trade in shops have going for them. Many Ebay-Stores have a return policy or 7 days though you will rarely find that for a private seller. I havn't imported for a while, but that is also a nice option on Ebay. You can pick up US versions for cheaper than over here and also get games that won't come out over here for months sometimes. Its a good thing that Blu-Ray is so resistant to scratches, I'v seen a test on youtube where some dude took a whole range of objects too the disk including: Steel wool, A pen and a butchers knife. It booted up on all except for when he took chunks off it with the Knife. Whether it would freeze during playback is another story though. It does appear that the medium is a lot more resistant than a DVD with this fancy coating but I hear that finger prints can causes errors in playback. They are easily fixed though. At least the console dosn't scratch your disks like another popular console is becomming renowned for. Anyway cartridges for the win! Those were the days, never a worry in the world for your games!
