  1. YES ! MANY THANKS, all is good when Peppa Pig is on the right channel.
  2. Hello guys, long time. Okay about an hour ago 10am 17th May 2013 my TV had a strange reception problem. The picture blinked out and the ABC logical channels 2, 20, 22 etc etc changed to logical channels 350, 351, 352, 353 etc. Normally you see this crap when you are in a cross over area where you have multiple transmitters. I am in Blackburn South Melbourne an area where you do not expect this crap to occur. The newer TV's are locked ( say dumber ) to their logical channels. The older TV which this occurred is a Sony KDL52x2000 with a true DTV compliant tuner unlike later models. So anyone else noticed this ? All my gear is still locked up in a post retrenchment office so can anyone else check what the logical channel streams are in melbourne ? cheers
  3. Correct. Unfortunately firmware in some brands makes the settings hard to find. I did find that the PC input often isnt available for tweeks as you are suppose to use teh PC for that.
  4. Call Sony tell them its failing . It should last at least 5 years ...............
  5. It's something that has happened before - optical o/p's do fail.. btw if you hadnt noticed the TV stations arent always playing dolby like they are suppose to - when the TV says DOLBY and the SONY says PCM. No such thing as OUT OF WARRANTY <5years : call them and ask.
  6. Sony now only sells their OLED in 3rd world markets like Australia - no one else wants them
  7. I did notice both the larger HX and NX series TV's were all leaning oddly on their stands. Obviously Sony couldn't afford to use real engineers to design stands - that do not lean and bend forwards and most often sideways. Checked out a 60" NX and it was 10mm lower on one side and leaning forwards. The HX was the same ( in three seperate stores too - JB HiFi, Good Guys and Sony Center )
  8. With end of line products often the manufacturer will protect the retailer from price corrections - i seriously doubt whether the store lost any money.
  9. Sony said in 2008 that they would be using Sharp panels in the 2010 series - but i expect it to only be the 55's and 60's . Anyone know?
  10. Spot on. The full range of new Sony's didnt hit our shores. I was impressed by the new ( US ) backlit fluro tube and backit LED's we didn't get here.
  11. Best $$ will be from ebay When a model like the 4000 series is only out for 3 months people tend to steer clear.
  12. Call Sony - they cover everything no questions asked for 15 months - if not - call Sony and ask for assistance
  13. the older Sony's used a seperate Australian tuner - the new TV's are pure Sony , integrated and now "software " controlled. I have found the new TV's really need a near perfect signal to work. My KDL32v5500 will not work where my old 3100 series did. If you are concerned either try to get Sony to test your antenna or get your own antenna man
  14. its a panel fault called a TAB fault - call Sony and they will fix it What I do not understand is why people are suprised their TV's break down.... its electronics and they "break down" - never compare your old analogue TV to a new TV.. one is built to a standard to last 10-20 years. NEW TV's are built for 3-5 years.
  15. its always good to check out the US website looks like a good mix of old fluro, edge lit LED's and full LED backlit TV's.
  16. Sony ripped down the 8000hr expected lamp life from the website within 2 weeks of it going online back in 2006. You wont find it anywhere these days. Lamp life generally depends on keeping the unit clean and cool. generally its blocked filters and failing fans that kill a lamp before 5000hrs.
  17. I installed a KDL32V5500 today - a much lighter unit The RF connector is like the 45(00) series and pokes straight out the back and i had to use spacers behind the wall mount. I tried no spacers but the power plug ( permanently attached 2 pin ) was too proud on the GPO (10mm proud itself ). I restrained myself from opening up the back and having a look. I only hope that they didnt use TAPE to hold the LVDS cable onto the TCON than in the other models. Most of the better models are all clamped. BTW I saw the cheap model SONYs have the TCON inside the panel so its no longer accessable or a point of simple connection failure like the current S series Pro's - lighter Pro's - menu system Con's - expensive for a 1080 panel Con's - integrated tuner needs a better antenna than the old seperate tuner on the 2000 and 3100 series. The unit looks good like the W series but all in all I am more concerned about the raising of the Pre BER barrier with marginal signals
  18. no no no if you like TV's with backlight issues - go ahead. I have had agreement to upgrade my W4500 to a W5500 due to backlight issues.
  19. LOL the tuner is specifically made for Australia - you can attempt to flash up the TV micro using a memory stick - but get the AU version BEFORE you try. EPG is tuner related - the 70" version is the EU model will flash up but the electronics are completely different to all the other xbr/x3100's
  20. > call to Sony about my KDL40D3100 I call 1300 13 sony - press 3 digits - System drops out once this time - 7 minutes wasted before i get onto a Human. Takes all my details again 5 minutes wasted. Talk to her for another 6 minutes while she gives me the run around about escalating my case to the one and only Warranty manager for my state. I ask for a supervisior - I am denied. 3 more minutes of tripe. I ask to talk to another Warranty Manager ( based in Sydney) supervisor - no there is only one for Victoria and he is sick. Ask to talk to his supervisor - no that is not allowed and is unavailable. Then I am told somone will get back to me from Warranty - 3-5 days but because of illness it could be up to 10 days before somone contacts me. Well its been 7 days and no one has contacted me so far. I contacted the Service Center and asked what is going on - they say they are waiting on Sony. Its fun being on the receiving end of Service. They leave themselves open for all sorts of Dept of Fair trading hearings. Its been fun because Sony had a minor restructure and based all customer service in Sydney now. No more local Sony assistance other than the Service centers. I asked for parts assistance on my own behalf - knowing that "normally" it would be granted. Like all warranty/insurance helpdesk people they deny all claims initially to save cost. My tuner for which i have had 3 so far - will cost me $577 + labour. When I know I refurbished tuner only cost $50 - $150. I can feel a VCAT hearing coming on !
  21. the warranty for my mates 52" Z series was under $300 for an extra 4 years - the "in the box" warranty card said $650 but apparently the Sony extended warranty underwriters have changed and its cheaper
  22. Mate welcome to the world of crap TV programming . Now you know why I hate watching old TV shows. Move further away from the TV and turn off all noise reduction etc etc. SD/HD programs are commonly horrible. Check out the News on all network channels ( shot on Full HD) and adjust for best picture. ANSWER = TV network converting old Video tapes to Digital. Upconverting just shows the problems or they SOFTEN the picture so you wont complain of the blocky noise doen during conversion.
