  1. I was in the same dilemma as most here regarding the Pana v Samsung. After months of checking both out, I opted for the 50" Pana and haven't looked back. Don't for a minute think that in the shop with their crap default settings these are the way the panels should be viewed. I hassled JB hi-fi for around and hour and a half playing with both displays settings and was more impressed with the Pana especially in it's handling of black levels. I found them to be far superior to the Samsung. Each to their own, I'm not a fanboy, just liked what I saw. Prior to investigating both heavily, I was leaning towards the Samsung. Good luck with your choice!
  2. I've had the 50" 70A for 2 weeks. (1st week was Chinese model). Initially, I received the Chinese model, I told JB Hi-Fi this and they swapped it for the Jap model. I'd rather Jap over Chinese. Let's face it, I think most of us would have more confidence in Jap products rather then Chinese. I do believe they are all being Chinese manufactured from now on. (7/70 series). Regardless though, it's a sweet panel and looks awesome!
  3. The only issue I have is with the sound breaking up.. I've only noticed this when there is just text on the screen. Ie: Credit's, or commericals that display text with no moving images in the background.. Anyone else getting this?
  4. ROFL Is Linda actually a woman or a dude who can't spell his own name? Seriously, stop making a mockery of the English language and learn it!
  5. Anyone care to share their picture settings on their 50 PX70A? I'm still trying to get it tweaked and may have to resort to the DVE DVD once I've done a good 100+ hours.
  6. I just got it swapped for the Jap version tody. No doubt both are excellent, but I have more faith in anything that is manufactured in Japan.
  7. Yeah I'm a bit peeved about that. No biggie, it's just the hassle of packing / unpacking it once the Jap panel comes in.
  8. In another post I've written that I Just picked up my 50"70A - Love it - BUT.. IT'S MADE IN CHINA!! So I've organised a replacement panel that is defintely "Made In Japan". Should be here within the next week. Just be wary of this folks if you're as anal as me, you'll want the Jap built panel.
  9. Just got my 50"70A yesterday! Love it! EXCEPT - I noticed it's MADE IN CHINA!!! So I've organised a replacement one that is Made In Japan. Should be swapped over in the next week. Just be wary of this folks. (If you're as anal as me you'll want the Jap built panel).
  10. I'm with you for the exact same reasons, hence why I've gone the 70a. Who really would utilise the speakers on a plasma or lcd nowadays? No doubt 99% of people would surely have a surround / av system for audio.
  11. LOL. Looks like member "DVD Jon" has re-spawned! Quality use of the english language... If anyone can translate, please let us know.
  12. I am.. Yet still can't find a need for 3.. I'll be running a HTPC and PS3. That's it. What more do you need?
  13. Best price I've found is: $2895! http://www.webprice.com.au/page/shop/flypa...yword//offset/0 They also have the 700A @ $3,495. I'm going the 70a. I just wish it had a similar stand to the 700 in black. I don't need the extra HDMI's and would rather use the extra $$ for a PS3.
  14. You're 11 feet away and think 50" is too big!? WTF?!?!?!
  15. But you'll have to sit twice as close to see those extra pixels Don't get me wrong, I'd love one of these plasma's, but it is big $$ considering you can get a great 768 panel for less than 1/2 the price..
  16. How'd you get that price? Let alone from Myer llsTixll? Very good work. Any chance of getting a copy / scan of your receipt for bargaining power?
  17. I was in the same boat as you but have gone with the Pana over the Sammy. I have been researching since both models came out, but overall PQ, the Pana has it. Black levels were superior especially on certain HD sources I ran. (Not the crap you see in store). The Sammy was a little "too artificial" for my liking. Regardless, both are excellent panels, but you have to pick what looks best to you. To me, it was the Pana along with their previous record with TV / PDP's being held in high regard.
  18. Wow. Awesome price? How did you get it for $2700!?!?! That's ridiculously cheap! Even the warranty upgrade is cheap! Care to send your receipt at all so I can use it for bargaining power?
  19. That is a great price. Pity you have to be a member of a union. Best I've found is $2850 retail. Still an excellent price.
  20. I'm with you llsTixll - I went with the 70A. Ordered it yesterday. Luckily a good mate of mine is a JB manager so I spent an hour hooking up my lappy to both the Q91 and 70A. On HD - Both looked superb, the Q91 especially bright.. Maybe a little too bright, but none the less, tweaked, both would look great. SD wasn't superb on either set, but as my mate said, you feed it a crap signal, you'll get a crap signal. Ie: 7's AFL coverage. The Q91 was AWFUL as I mentioned in another thread when I saw one weeks ago. The Pana was a lot clearer on the footy.. Regardless, 7 really send out a poor quality signal in comparison to 10's HD AFL. Also, I had a few HD demos from WMV HD (Windows site) and Planet Earth HD. Both were fantastic, and I also had a quick demo of the movie "Equilibrium". There was one especially dark scene with some unforgiving black areas which the Pana lapped up. It looked superb. I was a bit shocked to see the Sammy fudge up the whole scene. Substantial purple fringing on the left hand side! It was the equivalent of purple snakes. I don't think the Samsung could handle black scenes anywhere near as well as the Pana. That pretty much sold me. To be honest, either panel are great, I give the edge to the Pana on blacks and SD I believe looked better. I can't stand movie plus, Dnie and all that artifical crap Samsung have on. Let's face it, pretty much everyone turns it off. Thankfully, the Pana's don't have those little gimmicks. As my friend said, the Sammy's sell like hotcakes purely on aesthetics. So many people are happy to drop their $$ on aesthetics it's what initially pointed me to the Sammy, but to me, PQ wise, the Pana wins.
  21. I think your exaggerating a little.. There's hardly a mention of them on the 70x series.. (Compared to 60x series). I've come to the conclusion that all panels, regardless of manufacturer, have issues..
  22. Yes, something I'm interested to know too. In fact all sports! AFL, Soccer, Tennis, Golf, F1.. The Sammy I saw displaying the AFL looked absolutely ****. Grass was washed out fluoro green, and when the ball went pas the crowd it magically disappeared into a mix of washed out pixels! It looked really crap... I'm going shopping this weekend and am taking my notebook PC. I'm gonna sit down and customise both the Q91 / 70A displays for PC use and TV.. Which ever looks better after some tweaking will get the purchase! Still a coin flip but I'm leaning slightly more to the Pana as I keep hearing issues with the Q91 equivalent locally and in the US...
  23. So can we then basically say as per my question in the first post that the Pana would be favoured over the Sammy in terms of picture processing?
