  1. Yes, I've used it with rewritable disks. Was good for ABC and SBS but even they have adds now. You can get a 2 hr movie onto one but it depends on the bitrate recorded. These days they seem to be variable format rather than fixed so you could miss the end of a show if it's more than 1 1/2 hrs. with a high SD bitrate. Good for 1 hr doco's.
  2. Thanks again Ian. Yes, I've been looking at the IDE cable options. I'm looking to source a male skt or an IDE extension cable, M to 2 x F, via my Hummy friend over east, maybe even the IDE to USB cable. The Finepass solution uses a male IDE to USB B adaptor with a standard IDE cable. Don't know how much the adaptors are and it would need mounting which I don't want to do but it looks like it would still fit behind the moulding behind the smart card door in my unit. Cheers Andy
  3. Thanks for the heads up on this one Ian. I was looking into it for a friend with a Hummy but could see that it should also work for my Finepass/Legend LPVR-C. We have GETHAV and HAVtoREC, for accessing the files on the HDD and conversion to standard TS and I now see in Germany that they are using them with a hookup similar to this rather than removing the drive (or transfer at USB 1.1 ...... overnight! Do you have a link for obtaining the IDE2USB2 widget on Ebay. I could see one on auction but got the impression you had found a supplier. Thanks Andy
  4. The T300 single tuner version of the T750 Twin Tuner with the same DTV3 software/driver series displays closed captions(subtitles) if you record as a full TS stream.
  5. Wasn't it Ulead Photo Explorer that comes with Compro? I have MF too but it came with my old analog Leadtec card. Both probably have the direct to Disk feature that is needed.
  6. Did you uninstall the old versions before updating?
  7. It should also record the EPG extended info with the recording but the PVR has to be left on the same channel being recorded. Best for unattended recordings when you are not using the other tuner, but real handy to be able to pull up the extended info if you have forgotten what that movie was about a few weeks down the track. Just press the EPG button while in replay to review either the now or next extended info. Retire with exit. It will have the wrong info if it was not on the channel being recorded.
  8. It seems to be working ok. The indicator in the control panel showing live/playback/record is working again. The manual has been cut down quite a bit too. The 2005 C++ redistributible installed during the install process so they must have recoded something.
  9. I have the Legend Digital badged unit and checked into the Hitachi HDD in it which turned out to be 7200 RPM with 8MB cache. The brand shouldn't matter and I doubt you would have any problems fitting a 250G unit following the manual. I've had a WD sitting in the wings for about 12 months now in case the original 160G drive dies using it for backups via USB for my PC.
  10. I forgot to ask, have you been able to save the timeshift buffer? The Nextwave manual refers to the thumbnail associated with a timeshift file but I can find no way to save it. I tested that it will do 2 x rec plus replay at the same time today, all three 1080i streams. I'm amazed how quiet the HDD is as I have to mute the sound to even hear it seeking the disk. No hum like my SD PVR.
  11. I bought the Nextwave about 8 weeks ago which is apparently identical internally but has later software and can do overlapping timers. It can't do chaseplay of a recording in progress but you are supposed to be able to play an earlier recording while the other two are in progress, I just haven't got around to trying that yet. One handy feature is that if it is turned off while a recording is in progress, and that recording is a repeat recording(daily/weekly), it restarts itself and records the remaining time in a second recording. I have no real complaints with mine.
  12. Mine has always kept the recording schedule but you have to rescan the channels.
  13. I'm on 3041 with 1357 with a fully updated Windows XP and ATI video CCC/driver 7.4. I had trouble with both 7.5 and 7.6 with DTV so went back to 7.4. Andy
  14. I much prefer DTV3 and have no problem with recording and replay. If you don't like them just uninstall and reinstall the ones you already have. Andy
  15. I found I couldn't bring up the list of recordings with the remote in Ver 3044. Reinstalled driver and app. but didn't fix the problem so went back to 3041 and have it working again. Anyone else with the T300 find this?
  16. I'd never have guessed it would have been that. Great you have it going now. If only it worked with timer recording.
  17. Sorry about the manual, I thought I had seen the recording options mentioned there. Yes, mine is the T300 card and I'm using it with the XP version of the 1357 driver. You don't have the control panel too close to the bottom of your screen ? It's the fourth option and maybe is offscreen. Mine is only just onscreen where I have the CP located. When you find it there is some delay between selection and the dialogues showing but you can see it's accessing the DVD. Next it asks you to delete or start recording before it reformats and records.
  18. It had me tossed too, thought I must have had a marginal signal on 9 and that the heavy smoke over the city yesterday afternoon might have brought it on. No sign of any problem today.
  19. Click the pulldown on the record button to reveal the options. It's in the manual and yes, it's in 3044.
  20. Both SD(130min) and HD(60min) recordings play on my PC DVD but only SD on my DVD players. Even the old one plays the RW disks contrary to what it says in the player manual. If this function worked through timer recording rather than just manually it would be handy to make recordings for use other than just on the PC.
  21. I tried the direct to disk function with my T300 today after picking up a couple of 4.7G/120min. -RW disks. It captured 130min. of the 145min. I let it run for. No indication when the disk is full but finalised OK when I hit the stop button. Quality seems fine and no lipsync issues. It's not a function I have a need for but interesting to know how it works just in case. Need to check if the disk plays in my old DVD unit seeing I used RW disk. Takes a few minutes to format or erase the disk so allow for that if you are going to use it.
  22. The HQ/Std guess was a flashback to my old Leadtek card. If I had any disks left I would give it a try myself but ran out last week. I usually have about 55GB freespace on my 120HDD and a 250GB USB if needed so not really an issue in my case.
  23. I got a HDMI lead and it really lives up to the promise of the brochure, superb picture. The HD STB I had(via DVI-D) was not as good as this. Functions during playback, FF, skip etc are instantaneous (right through the range to 128X FF/REW) and the drag function responds immediately you release the button. Resume only works on the last file played rather than all files you may have reviewed but you can easily get back to where you were with drag so not all that much of a loss. I quite like the thumbnail feature for recorded files so would rather use it than rename the file as you can do. A key character or scene makes it easy to identify the show in conjunction with the channel info. I haven't tried everything yet but have had no problems other than mentioned previously. Have had to hand the remote over to the missus so now we'll really see if it's soldier proof. If you couldn't be happy with this machine then you are going to be spending money I didn't have to fork out.
  24. I can only see that it would work for a manual recording, put disk in drive, pull down the direct to disk recording option and it should do it. I can't see how you can set the record duration with it so whether it does 1 hr HQ or 2 hrs standard is anyones guess. I don't see a great use for it as it's no problem to record to HDD, edit and burn to DVD with MF etc. Give it a try and let's know how you go.
  25. It locked after setting the region but was fine after a restart. Seems to be working fine. Didn't notice any changes.
