  1. Hi there, Hoping someone can help shed any light on a small issue I have with my Denon 3910... Basically, when I watch DVD movies I notice a silght jump in the picture every 5 to 10 mins or so. It is an ever so slight jump, but I do notice it and becoming quite annoying - particularly now that I notice it. If I replay the same section again, it doesn't necessarily happen again, it is quite random. Also there is no noticeable jump inthe sound. The slight jump in picture (or frames) is more noticeable on camera panning scenes. I have Sharp 45" and initially I thought it may be the screen, but don't have any problems with watching normal TV movies on the screen. The denon is connected to the screen via DVI. I am not sure if it is a particular setting on the DVD that may be causing it.. but at the moment I am at quite a loss. Be grateful for any feedback, thoughts, suggestions you may have... Many thanks in advance.
  2. I have noted there are quite a few happy Sharp Aquos 45" owners, but they are not without there problems. Vertical band in the middle is one key problem. The other is the clay face (though I think they have a fix for this) But, I have had mine only 3 months before it just simply refused to start. To cut the long story short, it has been in repairs for over 5 WEEKS and from what I can see Sharp hasn't got a clue what is wrong with it.... I have been quite patient, but after spending the $$ I did for this, and the very very average Sharp service, I am about to go back to the vendor re: this. So just be ware.... (...this is just my expereince with a Sharp 45"...)
  3. Many thanks everyone. It seems like the longer I wait the more choices there are and more confusing the issue becomes Reading through all the posts I have isolated these units: Denon 2910/3910, Arcam DV-79, Pio 969 and someone yesterday mentioned to me of a Merantz unit (I think it was DV9500) that also suppose to be upthere with the others. If any one has a quick overview of these players it would be much appriciated..... My main requirement is for DVDs, DVI out, very good scaling to 1080i and not too fussed about audio CDs, etc. Reading the thread on Denon DVD players seems the mid range 2910 might also be a good option.... the search continues.
  4. Cheers Fingers, thanks for the info. Agree with you that the dollar cost isn't everything, service and after sales support are also all very important. I am just trying to work out what would work best with a Sharp Aquos 45" unit and the cost as so far the Denon 3910 has been the suggested model to me. Many thanks for the info again.
  5. Hi there, can you advice where you were able to get the 3910 for around $1500? Many thanks.
  6. What is the new media box? How is it different to the current one? Thanks.
  7. I think the reason it seems louder for DVD's is because the panel automatically changes the picture to Cinema Mode for DVDs and in this mode the brightness is higher than the Standard mode - and as the brightness increase, so does the damn buzz.
  8. Interesting that last night and this morning the Sharp Australia website had no link in to the page they previously had for this unit. HOWEVER, through a google search, you get to this page (link here) and noticed that the RRP is now $11,999! Not sure what is going on, where you can't actually get to this page via the main Sharp site (www.sharp.net.au) unless I missed something. But if this is true, that is quite a price drop from the original hefty $15,999 price tag (?!).
  9. Struth, what's the $$ on this baby? Interesting article, but I note that it ends in saying LCD (even this recent technology) is still behind plasma when it comes to PQ. It would be worthwhile to read what owners have experienced. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Through internet browsing in AU, seen these for between 11-12K. Have just seen several scenes of LOTR on one and was very impressed with the PQ - felt one could pick each of Gandalf's hair on his beard individually. Pans of scenery looked great too - but then again this is only my view and what my eyes were interpreting. Interested to hear any one else's views.
  10. Hi there, Just wondering if there is anyone out there who owns or knows well of this Sharp unit can comment on its performance - particularly with respect to any noticeable motion lag issues. Seriously considering one of these units and the only real concern I have is how much noticeable, if any, is the 12ms motion lag - particularly when watching HD content and DVDs (don't really care for games, etc). Recently I saw the first LOTR on a plasma and the the wide angle fast camera panning scenes of NZ looked fantastic and wondering how a LCD unit like would handle such scenes. The AV stores are of the opinion the motion lag is thing of the past with older LCD models and newer units like the Sharp 45", it is next to non-existent. Also read a quite a detailed artcle from the US model - link here. But really interested to hear from anyone who has one in Australia. Many thanks for any input, advice. Cheers.
  11. Ok, I am annoyed now.. the buzz is really loud now that I know about it. Funnily, its barely noticable when looking at the tele directly, but if I have my head turned, ear facing the screen its really loud. I guess I dont hear it much when looking at the tele as I have surround sound on for TV also so the rear speakers must drown it out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This exactly the problem I have.... As described on another post, its like watching with a flurocent light in the room. How old is your unit? Was it made in Jan 05 like the others have mentioned (so is mine), Have you reported it to Pioneer. Hopefully the more of us report the issue, Pioneer might do something about it rather than justifying it as being normal!
  12. I normally view the standard mode and unfortunately still hear the buzz. I only use the cinema mode when watching movies, where the PQ is great, and I don't really notice a difference in the level of the buzz. Maybe my expectations are too high, but for the cost of these things I really think we should get product of very high standard and without a buzz. I am curious to know more about the fix, that people in this and other forums have mentioned of, Pioneer have or are working on for this issue.
