  1. Switched on the tv this morning, and I can't find ch 9 any more on my TiVo. It lists gem and go, but no 9. Had to go into the menu.settings.channels.channel list and reselect it - and ideas why it went missing like that? Got to say that me and this TiVo are just not getting on
  2. Didn't happen again tonight, but I'm sure I've checked before and had only the one light on, although another time there were two lights when it was recording a suggestion. The Toppy gives the option to cancel either one or other recording, while the Tivo only gives you the option of cancelling the recording on the current tuner - I can't understand why it can't offer the same level of service as the Toppy given how everyone likes the Tivo UI. My other annoyance is the way it takes several key presses to get to the recordings (or Now Showing) menu - on the Toppy this is one key, and since this is the main function of a PVR, pressing the menu, then another key, is a pain I can do without Zed
  3. Often when I am watching a show live on the TIVO and a new recording is about to start, I get a message asking me if it is OK that the TIVO changes the channel I am watching to the new channel for the recording. This happens even when there is only one recording scheduled - it has a free tuner available, so why can't it use that, rather than kicking me out of what I am watching, and then forcing me to change channel back to the one I want to see now. On my Toppy, when I am watching a show and a new recording is scheduled, it will try to use the free tuner to record the show so I don't need to change channel. Can I set the Tivo the same way? I bought the Tivo as a second device for the bedroom thinking that it would be easy to use, but I just can't seem to get used to the TIVO user interface, and nor can my wife. Zed
  4. Can confirm this - although you may not have to haggle much - dropped in on Harvey Norman in Indoorpilly on a quiet Thursday afternoon, asked if they could do $850, and walked away happy with no more haggling than that. Cheers Zed
  5. Obviously I'm not a great reader (or listener) - anyway, I eventually reinstalled the firmware and all is well now - didn't seem to have any duplicates and I wasn't running either of those TAPs, so maybe something was not right with the patches I had on the earlier firmware. Back to the default March 09 one for now. Cheers Zed
  6. Sorry to be off topic, but I'm in trouble now! Did a factory reset on my 5000 as I couldn't find out how to delete a single channel (I found out after - simply start without TAPS (press 0 while starting) and then hit OK and you can delete)... Anway, after a factory reset and re-scan of all channels, I now get no EPG and no now-next information on any channel! Anyone got any ideas what is going on here? Cheers Zed
  7. OK - I think I must be deleting channels in the wrong place - do you recall how to delete a channel on the 5000 series? Cheers Zed
  8. I get the same - where are you based (I'm in Bris) Anyone know how to fix this I'd love to hear it! Cheers Zed
  9. Good to see that you are taking advice here, but also making up your own mind. Don't worry about those who say 42" or whatever is way too small, it's your room, and if you don't want a TV to dominate it, go with a smaller TV. I did, and I'm still very happy with my decision a year down the track. Zed
  10. Saw the TRF2400 in JB, Indoorpilly. Best price I was offered was $930 - they have at least 4 in stock. Think I'll wait a little longer to see how they go. Zed
  11. That isn't quite right. There's the IQ and IQ2, plus the topfield 5000 (although this is only SD) which can all do the season pass thing, although the Topfield, like a Media Center, requires additional (free) software to be loaded. It is quite reliable even using the broadcast EPG - I have mine set up for this (using the Jags EPG software loaded on the Toppy). This is not something everyone will have set up, but it can be done with a minimum of fuss. Cheers Zed
  12. Even if the ABC volume level dropping and spiking is due to the station (and I only get it on the ABC SD channel, not HD), most set top boxes and TVs don't suffer from the change in volume level - I can watch SD through my old STB with no problem - so there must be a way to fix this that almost every other manufacturer is using. It is unacceptable to have the volume fluctuate in such a way, especially on a premium TV. My 2c Cheers Zed
  13. OK, you lost me there. If you moved your sofa a foot closer to the TV, won't you be half a foot closer to the picture, even if you wall mount? I guess what I'm saying is, since you can't move the wall closer to where you sit, move where you sit to closer to the wall, and then you're fine. That way, you can have your TV on the wall if you like it like that and still be as close as you want to be. Cheers Zed
  14. I can't see why you couldn't move your furniture forward if you wall mount. I went the wall mount option, as it leaves more space in the room. Cheers Zed
  15. OK, probably a dumb question but I couldn't see it in the FAQ - can I get BOTH HD and SD versions of the FTA channels on the IQ2 - and if so can I record them separately? eg, if Ch10 has something different on the HD than on the SD channel, can I record both? Cheers Zed
  16. Has Foxtel launched the IQ2 yet? If so, can anyone confirm (for Melbourne) if the Foxtel HD service carries all of the FTA HD and SD channels? If so, the pricing on this box seems quite attractive - at $200 for the install and $10 per month (over and above a standard Foxtel subscription), you can rent the machine for years before you start to lose out against the current pricing on other twin-tuner HD machines. Am I missing something here? Cheers Zed
  17. You will need to use a transformer in Aus, as the ones sold in the states will run on 110v. See the buying from the US thread a while back for more gotchas
  18. Put me down as having the ABC sound issue as well - hope that this is fixed soon. Cheers Zed
  19. ABC = ABC1 + ABC2 SBS = SBS + SBS News So there are 6 channels on FTA at the moment PLUS Ten = Ten SD + some different content on Ten HD So, more than six channels
  20. UK runs on 240V anyway, so you should be safe in importing stuff from there, although the price is generally higher than in the US. Cheers Zed
  21. OK, here's another tip if you're travelling around a lot and have ordered a large / heavy item you don't want to lug with you everywhere. In most cases, if you are staying at a hotel, they will store bags for you for later collection, for free. So, if you book a night at an airport hotel at the beginning of your trip, you can often drop off the bag there and pick it up at the end of the trip (as stated earlier, if buying off the internet, order the parcel to be delivered to the hotel). This comes in handy with round the world trips where the item you want is cheap in the US, but you are going US-Europe-AUS, or where you are going AUS-Asia-Europe and back (if you ahve time free on the way over but not on the way back, drop at an airport hotel in Asia for pick-up on the return leg). For example, on a recent round the world trip I purchased a heavy item in the US over the internet, with delivery to the last hotel I was staying at in the US. My journey then took me on to London before a round Europe trip, back to London and back to Aus. Took the parcel from the US through to London, then dropped it off at a hotel at Heathrow, did my Europe trip without having to lug the parcel around, and then picked the parcel up from the hotel before leaving the UK back for Aus. Since most baggage handlers at hotels don't actually verify that you are staying at the hotel, it is possible to drop off parcels, bags whatever at a hotel and pick up later without even staying a night - just look like you should be there, be sure to tip the baggage guy and tell him when you are coming back for it. This is often far cheaper than leaving bags with an excess baggage service at the airport, if you can even find one. Excess baggage storage at the airport in the UK is around 6GBP per day... Cheers Zed
  22. Drive mode is on page 2 of Other, from memory - just scroll down. Cheers Zed
  23. Hi Mark Not quite sure what the question is? Are you asking if $450 is a reasonable price for the bracket plus install? Does the Panasonic include RGB inputs (or YUV)? What do you plan to do with the cables once the TV is wall mounted? Is there a power socket close to where you are placing the TV, or will you need an extra socket installed? You should be able to discuss this with a competent installer. Cheers Zed
  24. Pioneer do a range of mounts - I'm not sure if there are any differences between them. The standard one is included in the price, but you can have a swing arm version as well if you want. Might be worth giving them a ring. Also, think about where the cables will go if you are wall mounting - depending on the wall type, you might want to put a cable tidy / ducting on the wall as well, or may want to put plates in the wall that the cables (including power) will attach to. Cheers Zed
