  1. With due respect, isn't that why this thread is stickied? Shouldn't people with questions / discussions on such be refered to such stickies so that the main topic of this (and other threads) don't become cluttered with side issues and remain on topic?
  2. Check it out with customs, it's there. Not all electronics mind, but some are classed as luxury items, unfortunately for us AV amps fall into this category. I'll have a hunt around and see if I can find a link. EDIT Hrmm, after checking around it seems I have been working on old information , it seems after checking inport tarrif rates AV Amps are taxed under schedule 3, chapter 85 of the tarrif schedule, and attract only a 5% tarrif (not including other statutory charges). My apologies!
  3. Yeah spoke to my AV guy today, who funnily enough had just been on the phone to the distributors (he's chasing up his own 4308 for personal use). He was informed that there was a delay and not to expect stock until October. P.S. For those that grizzle about the price is Oz and wanna compare it to USD, you can't really. Denon stock for Oz is sourced through Singapore and don't forget that lovely 33% luxury tax on all this stuff that the govt charges, which accounts for a lot of the price difference. That being said I do feel that the distributor's markup on this stuff is a tad high.
  4. According to the manufacturer's web site the units wont be available in Australia until September, and we will only be getting the versions with the the tuner "in the box" (ie the 4130 and 5130 models). Cheers!
  5. Current around the trap pricing for the 5000 is between $500~$600 ish, so I would expect the 5100 to be more expensive, initially when it finally hits our shores.
  6. Firstly, where did you get 0.16.49, as 0.16.47 is the latest on the Topfield site (just checked again to be sure)?....... Unless you are a Topfield recognised tester....... Yes I did do a factory reset before the upgrade (always do), however a doubt whether a factory reset would change the behavior of a particular update as this is built into the firmware bootstrap loader (partialy in the OS and partly in the firmware update itself). I can assure you that upon installation of 0.16.47, partition 3 was erased, I remember it as I had never seen this with any other update, only this one.
  7. Yes, I noticed this when I upgraded to the Apr 16 firmware as well, it erased partition 3 along with partition 0 before it installed the new firmware on partition 0. Dunno why but the toppy is working just fine. PS the Apr 16 firmware (0.16.47) has been the most stable of the April releases for me so far, they toppy is working like a dream. All they gotta do is fix a few things like bookmarks, external hardrive interface and I'll truly be a happy chappy!
  8. If high capacity cartridges are listed for your printer and you reeeeeally want them, you can purchase them online through the Epson Australia site. (sure you're going to pay a premium for them this way).
  9. Agreed, mine is working fine and I'm happy with it, sure the firmware needs a bit of fine tuning (eg don't really like the HDD check coming up in the centre of the screen at turn on). Thats not to say others aren't experiencing real problems with their machines, but I feel the amount of angst and inflamatory comments raised on the Topfield forums are out of proportion. If people are that unhappy they should just return the machine for a refund, apparently Topfield have a good reputation towards customers in this regard.
  10. Hmmm, I could have sworn that I have printed in black and white on my R310 with an empty colour cartridge by telling the driver only to print in black and white.
  11. No they are not chip free. However they do not prevent you from printing in black and white if any of the colour cartridges are empty, nor do they estimate ink levels, they measure the ink content in the cartridge somehow. Can't comment on the non genuiune cartridge behaviour at all, as I have never used a non genuine ink cartridge.
  12. You will find this is true with most ink jet printers, as most of them are supplied with "starter" cartridges that do not contain a full ink load out, this is done for various reasons (the obvious one is so the manufacturer can get a bit more money out of you ). My Epson R310 was did the same as well as the Canon I had before it. You will find your comment on DVD/CD printing is about normal, none that I have ever printed have been as "bright" as a paper print, I believe this is due to the printable surface of the DVD, when you examine it closely you will find it slightly rough, more so than paper, this allows the ink to adhere to it better without smudging or "pooling" (which you found out when you used a shiny silver one [which are made for a thermal printing process BT]). Enjoy your purchase as the Epson R series printers are great units, it should give you long and trouble free service P.S. Was the software/driver provided with it Vista compatible?
  13. Really? Auto setting has been working fine for me on SD. Maybe I'm just lucky with my unit, I haven't experienced anywhere near the problems that people are reporting, no dropped channels, no judder etc.
  14. I wouldn't worry about it being beta, It fixes the main gripes that people have noted and doesn't seem to introduce any new real problems. It hasn't affected the stability of my unit at all but has improved what I have noted as wrong.
  15. For all those suffering from the 7HD problem, I just noticed this on the toppy forums (hope they don't mind that I stick it here) for stuff that is confirmed as addressed by the new firmware, hopefully being released by/at 3pm tomorrow (27 March):
  16. If you read through the thread you will see that for some reason when the toppy is set to bitstream and a "non-dolby" (If that's the right word), such as occurs with many SD transmissions are received, the toppy won't output any audio from the optical/coax connector (dunno about HDMI), but will send out an audio stream when receiving a dolby encoded audio signal. I understand that this has already been reported to Topfield to fix. At the moment (as you have found out) is to set the output to PCM when receiving "non-dolby" audio.
  17. You're right this is getting off topic IMHO. If you guys want to debate about the "perfection level" of the 5000, please do it elsewhere. This thread is for product review of the 7000PVR
  18. Good news, hopefully mine won't be too far behind! I'm in the same boat as far as cabinet access goes, I've got basically rearrange half the furniture to pull the cabinet out to get to the back of it to play with cables (sigh).
  19. Neither the manual or brochure state the HDMI version from what I can see.
  20. WTF? Why drag this ancient thread up again? And surely it belongs digital tv programming area and not the PVR etc subforum anyway........
  21. Well, I put my order with the group buy organised by Big Marcelo, now to wait the 7-10 days before they get into the country and a day or two for delivery.
  22. From the brochure: Don't mind me, I just think it's funny.
  23. Yeah, same I got a 2405 some months ago as my new computer monitor. I absolutely love it and consider it one of the best purchases I have ever made for my computer! The Dell site at the time was reporting that the things were in short supply, but it turned up about eight days later. Checking the Dell tracking site the thing had been "built" and started into the shipping chain the day after I made my order, so I'm a bit unsure about the short supply issue at the time.
  24. That's normal, the majority of televisions manufactured (CRT, LCD, Plasma) have hour meters, and have had them ever since microprocessors were first used. It has nothing to do with planned obscelence. Now go and watch some more x-files
  25. Yeah, well they are back again in tonight's airing of supernatural.....
