  1. Now on Sony Aus Web Site. 40, 46 and 55 inch sizes. 46 and 55 have LED backllight, 40 has WCG-CCFL backlight. All have 3000:1 contrast native. 40 has 50k:1 dynamic, others have 1M:1 dynamic contrast. Prices: $4k, $7k and $10k Discuss
  2. If you download the spec sheet at the bottom of the page it also mentions HDMI output connection.
  3. Now on the Panasonic web site. Available August. $1000 more for one extra HDMI port and 2 more speakers, seems like a big ask. Or did I miss something? Everything else looks the same??
  4. I guess the deafening silence means nobody has actually seen one in the flesh. Anybody know when they will be arriving? Are any other manufacturers coming out with slim design 32" sets?
  5. Was interested in this TV because of the slim cabinet size. Other 32inch sets are too wide for my cabinet. Have not been able to find one anywhere in Sydney. Has anybody actually seen one on display anywhere? Does it suffer the same problems as the D83 series sets? What is the tuner like regarding channel changing speed and EPG?
  6. In this case, the sparkles were tiny white (or red) marks that appeared to be about 2-4 pixels high and 1-2 pixels wide. They were all over the screen and moved only slowly with the picture content. They appeared to sit just where there was a transition in the horizontal direction between certain values of colour. This could mean it was caused by digital transition noise in the data stream, possibly on the HDMI interface. It was absolutely appalling to watch. They should have just turned it off and placed a service call.
  7. I was at Myer MacQuarie Centre at lunch time today. They had a 32V4000 which was sparkle city. It was so bad it was unwatchable. The colour was all wrong too. The sparkles were mostly white, but some were red. They seemed to follow the contours of the image. Could it be a HDMI connection problem?? Not sure what connection they were using.
  8. Whoops, make that the 40V4000. Should have checked before posting, doh! Says "Price available in store".
  9. Noticed that GG's Castle Hill are already advertising the 40W4000 on their web site, no price though. Also noticed that a lot of model data sheets have just disappeared from the Sony Aus web site. Getting ready for the new models, I guess.
  10. Just noticed on Sony Web site. Apologies if this has already been posted. 32D is 200$ lower @ $1899. You might want to check the other models before you buy.
  11. Just heard that the court case between Canon and Nano-Proprietary has concluded with no further damages being awarded to Nano-Proprietary. However, it looks like Canon may need to re-negotiate licensing arrangements to release SEDs to a world-wide market. SED TV Reviews
  12. Looks like Toshiba are starting to stir on their website (http://www.toshiba.com.au), now is a new link to AV products section which brings up a page stating: Maybe we will see something soon??
  13. Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but in todays SMH there is a nice article about how Toshiba is ready to re-launch the HD-DVD format on April 1. (not sure if this link works, though?) http://www.smh.com.au/news/home-theatre/no...4153041869.html
  14. Latest SED update: Quote: SED TV news from CEATEC October 4th, 2006 Kazunori Fukuma, the president of SED Inc., announced today that SED TV production will start by the end of 2007 and move to full scale production by 2008. This seems to be a bit later than the last SED television announcements a few months ago. Hopefully there won’t be any further delays as I believe it may start hurting the credibility of the product. Toshiba and Canon also had 3 55 inch SED TV’s on display. This was one of the most visited displays at CEATEC with people lining up to see the demonstration. Keiichiro Mori, from the SED Project Team, said production is on track for July 2007. The first SEDTV’s are going to be available in Japan in the 55 inch size only. Pricing and international distribution plans aren’t finalized yet. /quote The above quote from and more: http://www.sed-tv-reviews.com/ Also a nice picture of a 55" SED at http://www.dagbladet.no/dinside/2006/10/04/478712.html Paul
  15. Just noticed it on the Topfield web site. RRP $1249
  16. HI, I don't recall which sizes were available, but the one I spent most time looking at was quite large, maybe 45 inch. I didn't know there were two versions of the V series?? But based on what I saw, I would wait for X series, assuming it isn't too expensive. I can't imagine them not releasing it out here, surely they must come out with their own 1920x1280 displays sooner or later to remain competitive. My 2c.
  17. For what its worth, when I was in Tokyo last month there was an advertising blitz for the X series LCDs in the trains. So i went down to the Sony building in the Ginza to check them out. They had them there on display, up to 45 inch I think in size. They looked much better than the V series panels along side them.

  19. I didn't catch the segment on the show, but if you are asking about SED displays, then yes, I have seen them operating. I was at the Canon Expo in Japan in November last year and saw lots of them running. I also saw the special demo comparing SED against plasma and LCD. The most striking thing about this comparison was how black the SED was when they were showing black compared to the others. Plasma and LCD were both showing a large amount of light leakage in the darkened room, whereas you couldn't tell at first that there was SED display there at all - you just couldn't see it. Overall I would say colours were very good, and of course there were lots of details apparent in the shadows. I don't recall any noticeable flicker at all, although it was in a 60Hz country. All the displays were 36". They had a 55" model in cross-section showing the internals, but they didn't have any 55" displays operating.
  20. Info is up on the Toshiba site: http://www.castel.com.au/Toshiba/ProductDe...uctCode=HDD-J35 Release date mentioned is end February, RRP: $1699 Twin tuners can record 2 prgrams simultaneously, but does not mention being able to also watch pre-recorded material at same time.
  21. Just noticed this on the Toshiba web site: No Price or specs yet, though.
  22. Have you connected up the audio to the TV? Svideo is a video only interface so you need a separate audio connection.
  23. Something to consider: If you intend to one day upgrade your DVD player to a progressive unit or one that can upscale to 720p or 1080i, then you will need a HD TV to view it.
  24. Just noticed that Toshiba seem to have withdrawn the 32SW8UA model from the Australian market, as it has disappeared without trace from their website!! Pity, I didn't really want the SD card slot 'feature' anyway.
  25. The Toshiba Website has recently dropped the RRP for both the 76 and 86 cm fine pitch models. 32SW9UA is now $3999 RRP and 36SW9UA is $5499. They also now list the 32SW8UA which looks nearly identical to the 32SW9UA except for the card slot being missing and another (possibly related) feature missing: "Digital Window". Not sure what that is about??
