Why is it that apartments can't get digital without some sort of massive upgrade yet houses can?

Austar still haven't sent out the interactive controls.
They are a rort and shouldn't be even allowed to advertise these features. It's been saying "coming soon" since March. Sure it is

NRL and Super 12 from Aus are transmitted in WS.

austar digital is a total con. they have done nothing except add a few crappy channels. we always had a digital picture and analogue sound and thats what we still have and no wide screen movies, no box office movies and no multi channel news or sport.
I am complaining to austar by email and will continue to until the matter is fixed. I believe their promotion was misleading and unless i get some satisfaction ie digital sound via an optical or coax outlet i also will complain to the ACC.
we shouldn't have to purchase an extra set top box
I complained to the Dept. Of Fair trade in NSW. It achieved nothing except a lame phone call from Austar.
The more complaints the better.

If you flick the aspect ratio to 4:3 I've found that the movies advertised as WS actually are but not 16:9. Works that way with Austar anyway.

Im no expert but I'm fairly sure Austar can't use Digital surround sound. Check the showtime site out as it mentions something about sound.
We don't have a new EPG yet and dunno when we will.
The new controls that let you use interactive features for Sports Active, Sky and whatever else aren't out yet and are supoosedly "coming soon" but so is Christmas
Fox Box Office is "coming soon" too.

It is such a pity, and also misleading, that Duke doesn't use the disclaimer that he works, or now should I say, worked for Foxtel.

This is bad. I totally need to buy a new TV as my current one is just about cactus(won't make september) yet it would seem pointless buying a widescreen.

We've got the new digital and yet all we got was a few extra channels.
Won't have interactive for supposedly TWO MONTHS as they're testing
.I can't see how they can justify charging so much for a few extra channels.

Ok, so what your saying is that I will receive the same quality mpeg2 signal that I have recieved since I signed up?
It was the hype surrounding the "digital revolution" that swayed me to run out and buy a HD compatable widesreen projector so that I could watch the 2004 season with the same quality I have seen on FTA digital TV.
If PQ will not improve under the "new" digital......then what a scam.
It should have been marketed as more channels and interactive features and thats all.

That cant be right. I think that the person you spoke to has no idea. I dont think they would put another version of each channel on the satellite that is in widescreen on Foxtel, in 4:3 just for Austar viewers. A total waste of bandwith. You cant trust what they tell you over the phone.
I hope you're right but she seemed certain there would be no WS and she also said seeing Austars already digital there'd be no change in picture quality.

Just wondering as I have a TV that is dying and plan to get a new one but have no idea if it is worth waiting till digital is in as it would be kinda weird watching 4:3 on a 16:9 TV.

Even though the Gold Coast doesn't have digital does that mean programmes aren't able to be viewed in widescreen?

I recently got one but whenever I try to record the digital FTA going through AV2 it stos recording and says it's right protected
Not sure how to get around this
