  1. for a slight thread hijack - did you have any luck controlling the foxtel stb from the onkyo remote? I can't get it to work on mine
  2. Thread ressurection I know, but I am having the same problem! any help would be appreciated. I have a foxtel digital sattelite box. I believe it is made by Pace. I have tried the foxtel codes and the pace codes. A couple of the pace codes ALMOST worked (ie some of the 0-9 numbers worked but not others)
  3. I'm having this very same issue. I cannot get the harmony to go directly to InputHDMI - nothing happens.. or InputTV - nothing happens.. As there is no button on the LG remote to switch directory to HDMI mode or TV mode - how do I program these discrete remote codes into the harmony pretty please?
  4. I rang, told them i wanted a new STB that allowed component out.. they came the next day with a new one - no questions asked...no charge
  5. It's early adaptor tax from the big name brands.. the questionable "Digitrex" recorder was only $500 and that's well over 6 months on the market. Anyone who pays $1,500 or $2,000 for one of these recorders is frankly an idiot IMO.
  6. under $3K?????? Our local JB Hifi has them for around $5,999
  7. Why do they run smoothly on my computer monitor which runs at 85h then?
  8. I'm a fan of the xbox as well but it doesn't have the grunt to decode MPEG4 movies with a combination of high bitrate & large size (ie: native 720x576 not resized) If you're happy to resize down your movies somewhat, then it makes a great media player. The USB port on the xbox is USB1 and thats not going to be fast enough to stream broadcast quality MPEG AFAIK.
  9. Nice article, but on my Sony Wega 68CM CRT, turning the sharpness down to anything other than 100% makes the image look dreadfull.
  10. It's worth doing for interests sake.. the actual quality of the windows desktop even over Composite on 800x600 on my Sony Wega 68cm is pretty damn good.
  11. It shouldn't .... get a card that supports digital passthrough and ignore all this tripe about onboard decoding. (unless you have a very expensive and good older amp that doesn't support DTS or DD decoding)
  12. I have a matrox G400 card presently and I KNOW that the Radeon/NVIDIA cannot compete with that card on 2D picture quality, but unfortunately it's not capable of rendering HDTV. I have heard reliable reports that the quality of TV out on the SE models of the Radeon is INFERIOR to the normal 9200's or the PRO's. I also know that many stores are advertising 9200's or 9200 PRO's but I cannot find any that have them in stock.. I will try UMART.
  13. Perhaps you misunderstand me. I don't want to play Doom 19 at 19273 Frames Per Second. I want to use a Hardware Accelerated Overlay to watch Digital TV and DVD. I don't need screaming demon 3D performance. If I had the dosh to drop on a 9800XT AIW etc etc I would, but I don't.
  14. It's proving to find Radeon 9000 or 9200 series of video cards for sale now in Australia. It's either the SE range of cards or the 9600+'s which are too expensive to justify for TV out only. So, I'm looking at the FX5200 or the FX5600 range of cards for well under $200. Will they do DxVA properly? is there Tv-OUT of good quality? I will only be using S-Video or Composite so I don't need to worry about component connections etc. If I can get away with a FX5200 128MB DDR AGP TV OUT for $79 I will be well pleased. Alternatively, if someone has a 9200 or 9000 Radeon they're busting to get rid of
  15. Yes I think that's the one.. it's such a great looking set.. when I wander past JB I always head in for another look.
  16. Saw this unit at JB-HIFI for around $5K. It looked spectacular showing the Nine HD loop - much better than the new Panasonic HD RPTV looked. Anyone have this or know anything about it? (Can't remember what the XXX stood for, but remembed the D5000 bit)
  17. DigitalAdviser.. It is not the "aerials" fault when Digibox crashes with a channel change. At the very best it's a shockingly bad handling of an error situation.. I don't need dialogue boxes to hit OK with - I don't like to have to reach for my keyboard when it's something that could be displayed for 5 seconds on an OSD. I can change channels 100% successfully by going back to the channel menu and chosing the channel from there. I can NOT change channels at ALL using the ctrl-u ctrl-d functions. This screams software bug to me. Not aerial problem.
  18. well mate! as try as I might I can't find ANYONE to sell me a Radeon 9000 or 9200 Non Pro. The only Radeons around that are less than $300 are 9200SE's which produce CRAP TV-OUT. I am not going to pay $300-400 on a power 3D graphics card with a 747-jet engine fan when all I need is a hardware overlay! It's Tres Annoying.. If anyone has a 9000 Non Pro they want to get rid of.............
  19. What motion blur - I really don't notice it at all? DigiBox 2.2 and Beta......... DXVA turned on. DirectX 9b. Radeon 9100 using SVHS out. VM internal (TV display) turned on. If the blurring your referring to is fast pans - then yes...I even notice this on analog internal Tv tuner! Regards DA What is "VM Internal"? Something on your TV?? I shouldn't need a top of the line TV to watch it without feeling sick during fast pans - and no - it doesn't happen in analogue. I only watch SDTV at the moment as the graphics card doesn't handle DxVA
  20. ok now for the money shot.. does it change channels without crashing?
  21. pristine digital clarity it is ..... motion blur gives me the shites though... unwatchable on fast panning scenes.
  22. As far as I know all digital content is sent 16:9 and where the original source is 4:3, black bars appear on the side. That's all and well for those of you with widescreen TV's, but for those of us with 4:3 TV's still, it means we watch 4:3 TV in letter box AND side bar mode.. A tiny picture in the middle. Is it possible to "pan and scan" this image out in either Digibox or VisionPlus so that the 4:3 image in the middle of the screen occupies truly full screen? A key to do this would be excellent. Media Player Classic has brilliant pan and scan type play back facilities to sacrifice the edges of the screen for greater image height. Some sort of toggle between 4:3 Full Screen and normal 16:9 would be AWFULLY appreciated. The Wife Acceptance Factor is taking a beating here.
  23. is it still possible to buy the 9000 Non PRO? it sounds like the ideal card for my requirements. at a stretch the 9200 non pro would be fine too, but I wouldn't need the increased speed.
