  1. Hello everyone Just wondering if anyone has any advice about where to go for turntable repairs in Adelaide? My brother-in-law has a Sansui XR-Q7 and the tonearm up/down button isn't working, nor is the tonearm moving when the on-off switch is pressed. Cheers Suresh
  2. Hello Michael Sorry, no I don't. Just what's in the photos. I didnt know until now that they had external crossovers!!! That could be why I've never been impressed with how they sounded when when they were wall mounted..... I'm an idiot... There were plugs in the wall on one side of the room to plug the amps into, internal cabling in the wall cavities/roof, and then speaker cable from the wall to the speakers. I assumed I just had to plug the amps in. The previous owner probably took them with him. get in touch with to see if he may still have them Cheers Suresh
  3. Further Information: These speakers were wall mounted and in place when we bought our house about 11 years ago. They've only been used a handful of times since then and seem to be in reasonable condition. I've hooked them up recently, and they seem to be working fine, but I have no experience with these so don't know how they should be sounding. I don't have the time/interest/ or equipment and technical skill to get these sounding their best, so would rather they go to a good home. They've had frames made for them for the wall mounting so dont have any stands. Sorry, pick up only - I don't have the time to carefully pack and ship them ( they're big, and I assume easy to damage!) Would recommend 2 people to come to pick them up as they're heavy and big, and I''m not much help due to a dodgy back!
  4. Hi Aaron If you wanted to have a listen to the Brinkmann Edison MkII in your system, please let me know and we could arrange it. It's a hybrid design so I don't think valve life is a huge issue. Cheers Suresh
  5. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this model. My brother-in-law is looking at getting one as a bit of a retro project to play with. Cheers Suresh
  6. Hi Bruno You're welcome to borrow them whenever you need them. Cheers Suresh
  7. That was quick! There's already one person who's keen, and 2 others waiting in line, so these are no longer available. Cheers
  8. Item: 300 + Classical Records + 20 Box sets Price Range:Free, PICK UP ONLY Item Condition: Used Extra Info:Over the years, I've purchased some large lots of classical LPs. After sorting through them and keeping what I wanted to listen to, this is what's left. Some are duplicates, some are music that I'm not really interested in or that I'll probably never get time to listen to. Therefore, I'd rather they go someone who may appreciate them. I've not checked them individually, but the vast majority of the LPs from these lots have been in very good condition. I don't have the time to post them, so they are pickup only, in the Unley area. Please PM me if you're interested. Cheers Please don't forget to report your post as FOUND when possible. (You can now delete this text).

  10. https://auctions.scammellauctions.com.au/auctions/1-6ASE41/records-audio-23rd-of-october?limit=36 I thought this might be of interest to some of our local SNAers. Some recording gear including a Nagra deck, as well as some records and HiFi gear. Cheers
  11. Sorry, I don't have any idea as to what they're worth. It may be worthwhile looking through the classified section on Stereonet to see what prices they've been advertised at or sold for in the past.
  12. I'm a big fan of Soniques. I've got a pair of 5.5 SEs that I bought in 1996, that still sound and look great, and are used on a daily basis in the family room.
  13. After recently listening to my old Men at Work Lps, I tracked down some of Colin Hay's solo work. Arrived from the USA this week, and enjoying it this afternoon A few more to go, but really enjoying this. Am thinking it may be worth flying over to Melbourne this November for one of his live shows.
  14. Welcome Stu Good to see another Sonus Faber user here. Cheers Suresh
  15. I think it's the cover of a new Midnight Oil Album. Welcome to SNA There's a friendly community here in Adelaide, though things have been quiet on the GTG front over the last few years, probably due to Covid. Cheers Suresh
  16. I've got a few of the One Steps, and lots of the standard Mofi albums. I prefer the One Step Blood on the Tracks to the standard MoFi version, ( I think its a lot better). I also prefer the One Step Bill Evans - Sunday at the Village Vanguard , and Portrait in Jazz to my Analogue Productions 45 Box set versions, though the differences are not as pronounced. To me, with usual qualifications of my ears/my system/my room, they were worth the extra money, but as with a lot of things in this hobby, diminishing returns apply. The One Step of Bridge Over Troubled Water is not as consistently good, but some of the tracks do sound amazing. I dont really have anything special to compare it to, just a standard pressing from 2007, but the One Step certainly sounds much better than that. Overall, I've been very happy with most of the standard Mofi's that I've bought over the years. The Dylan Stereo and Mono albums are superb, and most reviews I've read rate them as better than the originals. I've previously written about the Dire Straits Mofi's compared to some original pressings and Aussie Maxicuts, and felt that they both had their strengths and their weaknesses. There are plenty of others from Billy Joel, James Taylor, Sinatra, Aimee Mann, REM, etc that sound great, as well as superb Jazz from Miles Davis and Jerry Mulligan,. Like someone else mentioned on this thread, I bought these, not because of the advertised analogue source/process/etc, but rather, as the best sounding copies I could source for music that I enjoy. A lot of these older albums are expensive and difficult to find if you're looking for Mint or near mint copies of first or best pressings. I "grew up" with digital, so I find cracks, pops, surface noise, etc, irritating and distracting, so for a lot of music, I've found that the standard Mofis are usually very well mastered, as well as being very quiet, clean pressings. The holy grail for some albums is still an original pressing in mint or near mint condition, but for others, my experience has been that the newer masterings/pressings from labels such as Mofi, Analogue Productions, Classic Records, etc, are probably the the best available. The current Mofi Scandal hasnt affected my enjoyment of these ( I was actually listening to my different versions of Blood on the Tracks , and Sunday at the VillageVanguard tonight before writing this). I am however, hoping that the value of the Mofis will drop signifcantly on discogs, the flippers will be badly burnt, and that I can pick up some of the ones I've missed out on at a sensible price!
  17. They did this CD back in the 80s. Maybe this needs the One-Step treatment...
  18. Hello Martin Welcome to Stereonet. There's been plenty of good advice already, but these are my thoughts. Based on what you've written, it sounds like you dont have access to any Hfi Stores nearby. Do you have some local friends with vinyl gear and expertise? If not, one of your key issues will be setting up your new TT and especially the cartridge. Any good dealer would do this for you when you purchase a TT, but if you're going to need to do this yourself, then ease of set-up should be a consideration in your decision making. It can be difficult to do unless you have some basic tools and ideally, someone to help you. When I first got into vinyl about 10 years ago, I bought a Clearaudio Concept MC package. It came out of the box fully set up from the factory, so it was essentially a plug and play TT that was as easy as using a new CD player. I did get a technician to check it and it was fine. It served me well for about 4 or 5 years until I upgraded to my Brinkmann, and I have used it occasionally in the last few years, and re-checked the set up and 10 years later its still fine. I was very happy with its performance and build quality. I don't have any personal experience with the other TTs you mentioned, but the Technics has been and tried and tested TT for many years, is the gold standard in DJ tables, and the recent models have also been extremely well reviewed in the Hifi world. With the other models you have mentioned and the price point you're looking at, chances are what ever you buy will sound pretty good if its set up properly. Bear in mind that you're looking at a package of a TT, tonearm and cartridge, that do need to be properly matched , and so having a knowledgeable HiFi dealer or friends with some experience would be important. Most TTs will come with a recommended arm, though these can be changed. The cartridge is the thing that most people can change, and will obviously need to be replaced at some point. Matching the cartridge to the tonearm is crucial, and there's plenty of information on forums such as this about how to do that, or what combinations work well. As someone else mentioned, a good phono stage can make a huge difference, and so that's worth looking at down the track. Hope this is of some help Cheers Suresh
  19. Hi Frank This is a nice dilemma to have! Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find anywhere in Adelaide where you'd be able to compare any of these TTs against each other. When I was looking for a new TT a few years ago, I went over to Melbourne and listened to the Brinkmann tables at Audio Fidelity/SGR with Harry and Stuart Ralston - Keith @cheekyboy may be able to help out with this. I think he went from an SME 20/3 to a Brinkmann Bardo. I also thought the Bardo was a superb table for the price, though not as quite good as the Balance ( which was about 3 or 4 times the price!), but I went with the Spyder as an in-between compromise so I could have the luxury of 2 arms. I also met Warwick at Sonic Purity and found him very helpful, and was able to compare the Tech Das ( AF1) against the SME 20/3 and the Thales tables. There may be other dealers in Sydney and Melbourne who have a range of these TTs that you could compare. You might want to contact Simon Wilde and Ben Adams at HifiGuru.com.au as I think they have a location in Adelaide where you can audition some nice analogue gear ( not sure if they can get multiple tables in to try) At this end of the market, I think that these would all be very good TTs, but with so many variables such as the arm, cartridge, phono stage, etc, it's very hard to compare individual turntables, and the decision you make may be based on the whole package including after sales service and backup, assistance with set up, home demos, etc, With my Brinkmann, Keith @cheekyboy let me trial a Bardo at home for a weekend in my system ,and then came over from Melbourne to deliver and set up the Spyder for me ( after it had been assembled and then set up by Harry Ralston at Audio Fidelity), and that sort of service is hard to find.
