Any comparisons between the R300s and LS50 Meta? I'm currently using the R300s in a nearfield 2.1 setup, and while I like it well enough, they're quite imposing and a bit overkill for a room of about 4m x 4m. I could utilise them elsewhere, but am curious whether the LS50M would be a decent upgrade in the space, as I've heard they're great for nearfield. Will try to get out and give em a listen somewhere, but opinions appreciated!

Sorry, yeah - two different rooms. I wouldn't go to the effort of changing components for music or movie listening either. The SVS was part of the R300 2.1 system, now it's been moved to the other room, connected to the home theatre.

I have the R300s which I use primarily for music, and just replaced the SVS SB1000 I was using, with a REL HT1003. I fully expected it to be a step down, but it seems to suit music much better than the SVS did. Very happy with it and consider it an improvement. On the other hand, the SVS is now handling home theatre duties a lot better than the Klipsch it replaced - which of course was expected.

Item: B&W CM5 gloss black bookshelf speakers & FS700 stands Location: Macleod, VIC Price: $1,050.00 for speakers. $250.00 for stands, $1200.00 all together. Preference goes to selling together. Item Condition: Very good. Probably 8.5/10. Both woofers have very minor discoloration, visible in photos. No clue what would cause it, obviously doesn't effect performance in any way. Maybe some superfine hairline scratches - you know, the kind that seem to appear from just cleaning gloss black stuff. I purchased the speakers used, 3 years ago. Had an issue with one of the tweeters very soon thereafter. Replaced both tweeters at that time so they'd be as close as possible to each other. No difference to my ears between them now. Have been working fine ever since. Replaced them with a set of KEF R300s about 3 months ago. They have been sitting unused since. They're too nice to leave sitting around doing nothing, so hopefully someone else can enjoy them. Includes standard bi-wiring jumpers & manual. No boxes. Happy to demo them! Pictures:

Indeed. I wish I had of taken more time and care in auditioning them, however it was late and I (perhaps stupidly) took them on face value. I'm not too sure where eBay stand either, but I feel that I'll be finding out soon. I understand the seller's position too, but when playing both speakers together, to my (granted untrained, non-critical) ear, they sounded OK, and being not totally familiar with the speakers it was hard to be sure. Visually there appears to be no difference between them, and there doesn't appear to be damage. I'm hesitant to remove them from the housing as I don't want there to be any issues arising from that. I had asked if there was any existing damage or prior repairs, to which I was told they were "perfect", and there had been no work done to them. Have actually sourced a replacement tweeter for that price AUD. Will go that route if all else fails, just feel it's not really my responsibility to do so when they were advertised as perfect. I figure I'll take it to a B&W service place to get a report though, if all else fails. I figured they should sound roughly the same (expect a pretty close match, really) - I've run them by a few people so far, blind test etc, and have all unanimously said it sounds horrible, when played individually - it's pretty obvious now, really. Not entirely new, just haven't really had any bad experiences so far!

Hi guys, Within the past few days I've purchased a used set of B&W CM5 speakers from a seller on eBay. Price wasn't unreasonable, came with stands that I was after. Picked the speakers up from the seller late that night, and he had them connected and ready to show me. Played a few short sections from a couple of songs at relatively low volume due to the time - no issues that I noticed. Fast forward 24 hours when I connect up the speakers to my Rega Brio R and while things seem generally OK, the sound was a little off - eventually through testing, I've concluded that one of the speakers is noticeably different in tone to the other. The sound output from the tweeter is what I'd describe as more hollow, recessed and perhaps a bit distorted. I've since done the following: Swapped speaker wiring over, problem remains Swapped speaker placement, problem follows speaker (to eliminate any chance of room acoustics causing it) Ensure bi-wiring jumpers are properly secured Connected my Usher S520s to ensure the sound wasn't due to the amp Connected speakers to another amplifier - problem continues with same speaker At this point it's clear that the sound is due to the speaker itself, however in contacting the seller he's said that, being speakers are electronic devices, there's always a chance of variation from one to the next, due to the capacitors, wear etc. My question is whether this is true, and to the extent it seems to be exhibited? I'm clearly under the impression something's wrong, but I'm really after confirmation before taking it any further? Any advice appreciated!
