walkingpig Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 HI Guys, Hoping someone here can shed some light. I have the aforementioned denon amp, and am having trouble getting the HDMI output to send any signal to the TV. the TV (Series 6 samsung LED) actaully removes the hdmi port i plug it into from the avilable component list because it knows a cable is plugged in that has no signal on it i have my Wii connected via RCA plugs, and if i use the RCA out on the amp up into the TV, i get display fine, as soon as i remove that plug, and even power cycle the amp - the image goes, and i have no idea how to tell the denon to spit out the video on the HDMI. I also can't find a way to specify my output, can anyone shed some light? I did have the HDMI card fail, and it was replaced and tested with a brand new one (NOT for this issue) so i'd say the likelyhood the card is faulty in this respect is low, anything is possible though right:) Charles
walkingpig Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Well, I should mention: I am trying to connect the wii using the optional component cable, i found out I have to assign inputs - that did not work out. I then found one post from a guy saying he rang denon, who said the 689 does not upscale component to HDMI - which is contradictory to batpig and many other sources - so i dont konw which to believe. Thankfully the TV came with adapters for a component input, I connected the Wii to that... why not I guess. The only thing is the component video at first glance seems worse than RCA! Edges just look more jagged, maybe that just shows up because the connection is better. While i'd rather everything via the amp, i'll settle this way - But if anyone can tell me how to (or if the 689 even can) connect component video sources and have the output go out on the HDMI, i'd love to konw for the future. Charles
tshorba Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 from the manual • Analog video signal cannot be converted to HDMI signals. • Component input video signals cannot be output to anything other than component video connectors. http://www.audioproducts.com.au/downloadcenter/DOCs/Manuals/Denon/AVR689EA_IM_101.pdf
