The Marantz DV6600 is a universal disc player that supports SACD (stereo and multi-channel), DVD-Audio & DVD-Video, backed by 192kHz/24-bit audio DACs and internal decoders for Dolby Digital and DTS. On the visual front, it features Faroudja DCDi processing to minimize jagged edges and provides video upscaling to 720p and 1080i via its HDMI output. To cater to audiophiles, the "Audio EX" mode allows the video circuitry to be completely powered down to reduce signal interference, while the inclusion of 5.1-channel analogue outputs ensures compatibility with legacy high-end receivers for high-resolution surround sound playback. The device works perfectly to play CDs, SACD and DVD audio (see attached screenshots).
The history for this unit is that I purchased this new in or around 2006. I used it for SACD, DVDA and CD. Around 2012 I wanted Bluray and the ability to play the hidef audio discs in one machine, so I bought a run out Oppo 95 and retired the Marantz to a cupboard. It hasn’t been used for any more than a couple of discs since then. I don’t have a box or manual, but I will include a USB drive with the manual in pdf form. I do have the original remote control. Condition is good with pickup only and $125.

### Sound Quality
- Digital and bitstream audio: Frequently described as excellent, with superb detail retrieval, channel separation, and performance on SACD (stereo or multi-channel) and Redbook CDs; outperforms Denon 1920 in some reports.
- Analog audio: Solid but less holographic and warm than Toshiba SD900E or Cambridge Audio DV89; improves with video section off and break-in; good via 5.1 analog outs for SACD (no DSD/HDMI SACD output).
- SACD handling noted as strong in Pure Direct mode, with comprehensive controls for DVD-A/SACD (speaker size, levels, delays).
### Build Quality
- Lightweight but well-built for the price, with comprehensive, well-spaced rear connections (HDMI, 5.1 analog, component, SCART, coaxial); sleek chassis.
- Silent drive, outstanding error correction, and fast disc/menu response; no bugs or sluggishness reported.
### Reliability
- Highly reliable in reviews: No lip-sync issues (unlike Denon 1920), debugged firmware, and problem-free operation across formats; one user notes Denon 1920 "fried" in storm but favors Marantz/Oppo alternatives.
- Longevity implied positively, with no widespread failure complaints in discussions.
### Strengths
- Versatile universal player (SACD, DVD-A, DVD video) with top-tier video (razor-sharp, great colors/black levels, Faroudja processing, HDMI upscaling).
- Price/performance leader; beats Denon 1920/Cambridge DV89 in video/digital audio; responsive and silent.
- Good SACD via analog outs; pairs well with amps like Grado/HeadRoom.
### Weaknesses
- Analog sound flatter/less warm than some competitors (e.g., Toshiba, Cambridge).
- No SACD/DSD over HDMI (analog outs only for multi-channel SACD); limits compatibility with receivers lacking 5.1 analog inputs.
- No video controls or 1080p upscaling; not as smooth as higher-end Marantz like 8260.
### Overall Reputation
Communities view it as a highly recommended, bug-free universal player excelling in video/digital audio and value, ideal for mixed movie/music use (60/40 split noted); upgrade path suggested to Oppo or higher Marantz for HDMI SACD/full analog warmth.
### Typical Price Range by Condition
| Condition | Price Range (AUD) | Examples |
|-----------------|-------------------|----------|
| Used (Very Good/Excellent) | $200–$250 | $220 incl. freight (2018, Australia); $200 (Gumtree, Australia, recent); $250 USD (~$375 AUD, but outlier, 2023 US) |
| Used (Good/Average) | $100–$200 | $120 (new stock clearance, ~2011, but sold out); €45–€150 (~$70–$230 AUD, 2025 Europe) |
| New | Not available | Original RRP $699 (2011 data); no recent new stock |
### Key Factors Affecting Value
- Condition and Accessories: Higher prices for very good cosmetic/mechanical state, included remote (e.g., new remote added $80 value), and original packaging.
- Location and Shipping: Australian listings (e.g., StereoNET, Gumtree) at $200–$220 incl. freight; international (Europe/US) lower after conversion but less relevant.
- Age and Demand: 20+ year-old model with SACD/DVD support; niche audiophile appeal keeps used value stable, but no new production limits supply.
- Market Trends: Recent Australian classifieds cluster around $200; older/European sales as low as ~$70 AUD equivalent reflect wear or lower demand.
Prices based on 2018–2025 listings; current scarcity may push values toward upper range for tested, working units.
