Description

Not sure if this is the right forum but I stashed a pair of S520 in the cupboard many moons ago after one of the speakers failed. 
 

I've recently pulled them out and swapped the good driver over with the speaker not working and all good so appears to be a driver issue not crossover. 
 

Posting on the odd chance someone has experienced the same or has options that would allow me to buy a speaker or driver that can get these going ago for nostalgic reasons. 
 

These we such a great budget bookshelf / stand mount speaker. 
 

If this doesn't work out I'll post these for free to see if any DIYers are keen to do something with them.

If you can't get hold of an exact replacement, the SB Acoustics SB13PFC25-08 mid-woofer might be worth a look.

Unfortunately, the squarish shape limits your choices a little.

 

Performance looks impressive, impedance and efficiency look to be a good match and you're unlikely to get better value than from SBA.  There is a dimensional drawing so you can check if it will fit your baffle mounting hole and recess.

The crossover in the S520 is at 2.1kHz with 3rd order slopes, so the little peak at 8kHz in the SBA mid-woofer shouldn't be an issue.

Absence of a phase plug shouldn't be an issue either; Cone designs in SBA mid-woofers appear to maintain clean upper midrange response on & off axis without the need for a phase plug.

 

Hope you get them up and singing again.
